SkyBus Stops Flying Today

I really feel that the days of moderately priced oil/fuel is a thing of the past and we need to prepare ourselves for that reality. I can't see gasoline ever being cheaper than $3.00 a gallon, give or take a dime. I haven't seen it any cheaper than that in my area in a long time. I think the higher prices are here to stay and somehow we will get used to it. Still sucks though.;)

Airfare is going to more expensive and the great deals of just a few years ago is a thing of the past as well. You're going to see smaller airlines fold and their routes and gates be taken over by the bigger ones. Less competition will mean higher prices as well. It seems that anytime a company merges with another and creates a monster size one like Exxon/Mobil, prices go up and regardless of the industry. Traveling in this country and taking vacations will be curtailed somewhat and not as plentiful. Same with taking cruise's and I noticed a lot of deals drying up and fuel surcharges being added.

The days of a working class families taking yearly trips to WDW and getting those great deals like $39 dollars for one way, non stop tickets to MCO are gone or will be shortly. How can you be profitable by basically giving seats away with the high cost of fuel? Going to WDW will probably be like it was in the 1970's and 80's and be more of an "once in a lifetime" trip. I remember growing up what a big deal it was to go to WDW and you never heard of people going multiple times in a year. At least not in my neck of the woods and of course the DIS didn't exist back then to tell me otherwise.:rotfl:

I was thinking about this, and wondering if Disney will come up with packages that include flights out of key cities. Disney will buy blocks of seats on one or two flights a day, and pass the savings on to the customer. Does anyone think this can be done?

Disney used to have packages in conjunction with their "official airlines", which they used to have. Eastern was the official airline of WDW. (they went under) and then it was Delta for years. Quite a few years ago, they did away with the official airline thing but when they did, there were packages. We have been going to WDW for years, and prior to deregulation, we paid a LOT more for each seat than what we would pay for a planned vacation today. I have seen prices rise and prices fall on seats. One thing I have noticed over the years is that when airline tickets are up, room rates come down, either with incentives, annual pass deals, etc or they just come down. I also found car rental rates inversely proportional to air fares. The higher the air fare, the lower the rental rates.

Disney, in general, has been pretty stingy in that respect for a while now, regardless of air fares. Jmho.
