*sigh* things have changed so much around here

I've been thinking the same thing. I have tried to start threads on friday and saturday nights, to have some fun. and they just die. Even on weekdays.

I guess the best/funniest people are gone.

Mikeeee

Wow, that's pretty insulting. I guess the people that are left are just deadbeats.

I for one have never noticed any difference in the DIS and would have known nothing about what happened except for people posting about it. But then, I come and go because I get busy with "real" life and don't rely on the DIS for friendships or social interaction. It's interesting and entertaining and I love the true Disney Boards...the restaurant, resort and theme park boards. As it gets closer to my trip, I love to read trip reports, etc. I think the Community is just fine with all the worst/boring people who are left.

I used to come here in the late evenings and had a tough time leaving. There was always something interesing and/or fun to read. I would spend an hour or more when I had intended on scanning and leaving.

Now, if I do come here, I find that I scan through the threads and usually don't even open any. It's just not the same.

I rarely post anymore since I got points for sarcasm. I feel like I am in kindergarten and I got a note sent home.

I guess for me this used to be a great place to keep up on events around the world, pass some time, and enjoy others' company. I agree with Sonya, that you used to come here and learn about people and events all across the world. I don't know exactly what the issues are, but it's just not a place that is all that enjoyable anymore. :(

The type of threads haven't changed as much as the attitude. It's just not as fun as it used to be... and I'm talking 5 or 6 years ago.

I miss the Dan Murphy days...

I didn't care for the cliques that much until I found myself IN one... the AI thread. A small group of people who cared about each other and had a mutual interest. You could go there and feel comfortable and not be called out for something you never meant and if you did you could explain yourself via PM and POOF you're friends again!!! Great group of people. Best part is you don't have to deal with the quagmire outside!!:rotfl2:

I used to come here for comeraderie and kind words.... not anymore. It's just DIFFERENT. I DO come for information, though, but no matter WHAT the thread, someone will come and say something stupid.. I guess just like in RL! :badpc:

A little testy?

I don't think the poster was being meanspirited at all....can't deny the fact that the CB is not what it used to be...banning 100+ avid posters is certainly going to impact the feel of the place!

I used to be a frequent lurker....numerous times a day....it's no longer my 'go to' site either...

Sonya, I know exactly what you are talking about and how you feel and I agree. I have been here as long as you and was also here before the big crash where we lost all our post counts, when it was just one board. I do miss the old days, but what can you do? I still love the DIS and have just accepted that it is a much bigger community with a very diverse crowd and you take the good with the bad. There is still great info on these boards and great people too.

Let me see, 3 kids, all by myself, very hard to get out of the house, no fence in the backyard, um..the summer is interesting! The kids are great though, when they are well. We have had one trip to the ER already!

I'm hoping you mean alone while DH is at work :)

That must be a real handful. Did little Sam make the ER trip? Hope everyone's OK.

What I've learned from my ER trips is this: don't go for a broken arm. They won't set it; they just send you to your regular doctor in the morning and you end up with a big bill fer nuthin'! ;)

I have never had a problem with the clique threads. A new one started for people who didn't belong to a clique thread and I posted on it and when I came back about 6 hours later it was 10 papes longer. :scared1: I just couldn't keep up. I only remember reading one thread that had someone complaining they weren't welcome. I am not much of a group person, the longest thread I have been involved in is the Obama supporters thread and I don't post on it everyday.

Some people have a problem with change and things always change. This is a free board and the people who run it have the right to do what they please. We can agree or disagree but we really can't change it. I like to post here so I accept the fact that I am not in control.

You may be right, it does have a friendlier feel. We can either view the glass as half full or half empty, and I think you and I see it as half full.

You are certainly correct in stating the people who run it have the right to do as they please. But it isn't their obligation to bounce folks who visit other boards. Nor is it their obligation to **** out words that are the same as the names of sponsor competitors even when they are not used in that context. Think Alamo's club to skip the line.

I also have to disagree with the "friendlier" feel. There are still the hateful rants that go on for days. And just because certain posters don't get called by others for their bs isn't, in my opinion, "friendlier."

I wonder about posting this. It may get me bounced - but I'm in a COL Jessep kind of mood at the moment.

I think the feel is much less friendly. Seems to me that I could disagree or agree with people before and not be called a mob or a minion. I like discussing. I like hearing the ideas of others. But it has gotten weird here lately.

'Tis the outcome of chasing off those who face down the bullies.

I don't know that it is friendlier or unfriendlier, but I would agree that it isn't as "familiar", at least to me. There are a lot of people I used to enjoy that are no longer here, and that is kind of sad.

However, I am always interested in meeting new people, and if anyone is interested in getting to know me better, then, good! :)

Things are definitely not the same. There were posters that I would seek out to read and most of them are gone. It's not a knock against those left standing, it's just the way it is. Glad people have not forgotten.

Not forgotten at all! Like someone else said, the first thing in the AM till when there is nothing else to do. The CB is stagnant.

It's different alright. It's weird though because I wouldn't exactly call it friendlier or ruder, it's just strange here. There are still nice people and still argumentative people and still goofy people...well all of it. I guess that it all comes in smaller doses now so it's harder to escape certain things? Do I sound confusing or what! :)

I bet that this board will build back up again as new people find it (and some old-timers come back too). Right now it's in transition, not a good one but I suppose it'll be strong again one day.

But it isn't their obligation to bounce folks who visit other boards.

I disagree. If there's an entire site dedicated to ridiculing THIS site, I think, by all means, the posters there should be banned from posting here.

Why would they WANT to post here anyways if they're busy ridiculing this site?

This site is good enough to ridicule, yet the people throwing out the slanderous remarks still want to post here???! Why?

The DIS might not be that much different in reality. There have been meltdowns before, there have been clique threads before, folks have been banned before, people have had arguments before, *but* things do feel different to me around here and I miss old friends. (And did anyone else think before they posted that maybe they shouldn't even post a comment on this thread?)

agnes!

Are they ridiculing the whole site? Or just discussing posts?

Sonya, I'm with you. I missed a lot of the drama and next thing I knew all this stuff had happened. I don't belong to any of the "clique" threads either, and now I find I give this board a few minutes, check the DVC and transportation boards (need plane tickets), then off I go. I have spent way too much time here for too many summer vacations and I'm trying to limit myself, and it kind of helps that some of the most interesting posters are gone away.
I tend to like sarcasm and a lot of that has disappeared, replaced with people who don't/won't be harsh to anyone. "Sure your neighbors let their kids play with guns, but not everyone has the same parenting style, so MYOB" is the type of comment I see a lot lately.
BTW I think those threads are called "clique" threads because sure, anyone can join, but who really goes into a group of people having a conversation and butts their way in? HS flashbacks, anyone?
Robin M.

Well I certainly don't think the best and funniest posters have left. I think there are plenty of great posters left and I still enjoy it here. I do wish the clique threads had their own forum however. But other then that I love it here with or without the incident.

MTE!!! IMHO, the CB was ruined 3 or 4 years ago by the glut of clique threads. Obviously, clique threads are popular with a lot of people, but they'll never be my thing.

I wish I could say that with certain people banned, this board will go back to what it was in its heyday, but I don't think so. For one thing, "you can't go home again." For another, most of those people are still here, but with new names. Some people just can't stay away from here, no matter how many times they get banned.
