*sigh* things have changed so much around here

Jenny in R.I. got banned! I liked her posts. :worried: :(

Yeah. Me too. I can't figure out what she did to get banned, so was so sweet and such an inspiration.

Of course, I am afraid to say anything in case I get banned, too! :confused3

Then again, a part of me thinks, well, do I want to be here if good people are banned? Been thinking that for a month now. There are nice people still here so what do you do?

There was a thread, locked of course, that explained there was a rogue alternate message board. People who were found posting there were asked to leave here and/or were banned for some reason. Details are/were sketchy. Some really, really cool posters were banned, especially Jenny in R.I. I don't know what they did wrong, however, to get banned.

And I hope I don't get into trouble, but the info was posted by a moderator here.

I can tell you that JennyMom is well ad misses you guys :bitelip:

There were fun threads, each with their own topic, like pooh watch etc... THreads like that are not against the DIS rules.

They used to be fast enough to stay on top of the clique threads on page one. Now it seems like no one is interested in having fun.

I'm just a newbie but...I'm here, and I'm interested in having fun and chatting with people. :wave2:

That is really not an explanation.

The DIS boards talk about another website that they have had problems with for years then they decided to ban people who posted on that website. (I'm not computer literate, so I don't know how the DIS knew these people posted on the other website)

But since the DIS did know, that is their right.

What I am still confused about is when The Dis stated that they could not talk about it because lawyers were involved, implying that whoever had been banned would be hearing from the DIS lawyers.

There were people banned who did not post on the other website, and a few posters who do post on the other website that are still here.

Not having any clear explanation about the bannings, not having any clear explanations on the TOS, not having any clear explanations about why some people are allowed to post on the other website and others are not, those are all reasons why I don't post much here.

Agreed Jenna.

There is an inconsistency on what is acceptable and not, and it peeves me, and sometimes I bite when I should walk away, which then earns me points. Some people seem to have a permanent hold on the immunity idol !!!!!!!

It definitely is different. I used to go away for a few hours & come back & there would be 6-10 pages of new posts. Now, we are lucky if we get 2-3 new pages of posts.

Yes, I miss things like Pooh Watch & the Stinking Dead Body threads.

 Wow, I missed that one. I noticed she was gone. I hoped she was just taking time away. :(

Tigger&Belle was gone for a while. But I happend to find a post where she went on vacation to Boston. Whew! She's back now. :)

I don't think it has changed that much. Some times I come here and find a lot of threads that interest me, other times not many. But than I don't belong to any of the clique threads, they just move to fast for me.
I agree. I've been here pretty-much since the beginning, and recall cliques even way back then.

I don't think all the best people are gone, maybe funny ones, but there are still some really great posters here.

I guess the CB can be whatever you want it to be. Maybe nothing goes on Sat. nights because it is summer and people are out having fun instead of sitting in front of their computers.

i'd would agree, sometimes i find threads to post in, and other times not.

:). i don't do those fast moving threads iver, it's just to much for me

and hey, this place is always active no matter what time you log in, so i guess you just have to play it by ear so to speak

I agree on everything you said wellll except maybe the clique thread thing.

I don't understand why they are called clique threads. A clique insinuates that others are not welcome. I spend a lot of time in one particular thread where pretty much the same people hang out but we have had lots of new people join us and all are welcome. I spent some time in another thread where the same people hang out before and they made me feel very welcome.

Other than that I agree with you! I have spent WAYYYYY more time here since everything went down....I guess because to me it feels like I can actually speak now. I'm not getting put down or argued with abotu EVERYTHING. Before it felt like I couldn't post a single word without someone jumping in to tell me what a horrid person I obviously was. I guess for me it just feels friendlier around here.

Some days I find threads that interest me, some days I don't. I chock it up to people having outside lives. Maybe they're at the park, the movies, work, the grocery store, on vacation, etc etc. There are slow days and there are booming days. Its the ebb and flow of a message board.

There's an ebb and flow - the same types of things were said three/four years ago. And there's always been the complaint about too many clique threads.

So, nope - nothing has changed.
I agree. These things happen in cycles. Each time there's a cycle, people say the board has changed for the worse, all the best people are gone, the owners are unfair and made a horrible mistake, etc, etc, etc. A year later, the board is right back where it was and people are having fun posting.

There's also some credibility to the summer thing. Kids are out of school, family vacations are happening and people may not have the time that they had before to post. It'll pick up again. Count on it. :)

I thought it was just a summer slow-down. I'm sorry to hear there was an incident. It did seem like a lot of the regulars that I liked had moved on.

If you look a little and read between the very obvious lines you can find some of your very old friends that were banned. Even on this thread.

Everyone who posted on the OTHER site got banned. I don't want to get into how I feel about that now but the boards are just not the same. Over 100+ people got banned. One was in Disney when he got banned? :confused3

I hang on the Budget board. Seems to be a smaller board with lots of little threads. Gotta love a deal too.

RIP community board.

I enjoy reading the Budget Board. I miss the CB being busy. My daughter is gone this week, and I have time to plan our vacations, and just blow off for a bit. Last year, I when I came out of the hospital, the place was hopping and was great entertainment.

I've been on these boards a pretty long time and I agree, things are different. So many people I posted with for years are gone. We had such fun. Things are different now. It's like the spark is gone. The funny fluff threads are dwindling, the biting is still going on and then there are some things that just make you scratch your head.
I like the DIS, I've liked it for years and I made some fabulous friendships and I've lost some. Some people were banned and some walked away in protest. How I wish they would find their way back but that won't happen and I can respect that.
But regardless, things will move forward maybe in a direction that will please us, maybe not. Only time will tell.
I pretty much stay within a thread, the TnT. It is a slower moving thread but a fun thread and a nice place to go to chat, vent, brag or whatever. We welcome all so if anyone is interested please come by.

This use to be the first place I would come to each day, now it is my last if at all, sigh!

It's diff now - I don't post half as much as I used to and it's not my go-to place anymore.

As a new person to the board, I'm curious to know how it's different. What kind of topics and atmosphere did it have in the past that it doesn't have now?

As I read this, it seems to come off as a challenge or defensive. Its not meant in that tone.....just as a simple curious question.::yes::

ITA. CB is not the same. Not nearly as much fun IMO.
If it weren't for my gianormous cruise meet thread, I doubt I'd be Dising much at all these days. I used to love the CB.

:listen: I hear ya.

Or maybe I should say, "the ancient days?":lmao:

How are the kids, Sonya? Are you enjoying your summer? :)

Let me see, 3 kids, all by myself, very hard to get out of the house, no fence in the backyard, um..the summer is interesting! The kids are great though, when they are well. We have had one trip to the ER already!

I don't know how to say it, but there were always threads about what people were doing, their observations on life, threads asking questions that were interesting, people posting links to addicting games :rolleyes1 , I don't know. It felt more personal. I know these things ebb and flow, but right now we are in a down swing (I feel) and I miss being able to come here and spend an hour (or 2) reading about things that would open my mind or entertain me, or just make me laugh.

I have never had a problem with the clique threads. A new one started for people who didn't belong to a clique thread and I posted on it and when I came back about 6 hours later it was 10 papes longer. :scared1: I just couldn't keep up. I only remember reading one thread that had someone complaining they weren't welcome. I am not much of a group person, the longest thread I have been involved in is the Obama supporters thread and I don't post on it everyday.

Some people have a problem with change and things always change. This is a free board and the people who run it have the right to do what they please. We can agree or disagree but we really can't change it. I like to post here so I accept the fact that I am not in control.

You may be right, it does have a friendlier feel. We can either view the glass as half full or half empty, and I think you and I see it as half full.
