Shrinking Tink: Trading Pounds for Pixie Dust

That can be scary and dangerous, you're absolutely right. Well, we're here for you to help you feel balanced and sane!

Thanks! :flower3: It's kind of hard to deal with....and admit to. But it's something I'm working on. I also want to work on getting in better shape. Even though I've lost over 100lbs, I'm not in great shape. That's also something I'm working on. I made itto 6.0 MPH on the elliptical today, which for me is a BIG deal. I can't run or jog to save my life...literally. If it was run or die you can bet I'd be pushing up daisies. :rotfl:

I followed a link here and would love to join in.
I've lost 20 lbs since Valentines day,

I went out and got fitted for a great sports bra

I SO need to do this. Where did you go?

I can't run more than 60 secs. but it's a start.

I'm hoping to be able to run HALF that! LOL

Even though I've lost over 100lbs...

AMAZING AND CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheer2:

I'm not in great shape. That's also something I'm working on.

We're here for ya! :goodvibes

Good Lord! That's great. It's been so long since I've even been on the elliptical that I can't even figure how I compare to that! Keep it up.

I followed a link here and would love to join in.

Welcome!!!

I've lost 20 lbs since Valentines day

Wow! That's great progress! Congrats. :woohoo:

I used to do a 'cheat' day too but I quickly learned I'd go off the deep end. So, now, I try to have a small 'cheat' every day and I still track it and count it (using WW points system). So far, so good.

So if someone could pm me and tell me where to gom I would love it since I did follow the link
TIA

Roger that!

Hello, everyone.

I just thought I'd pop in to say hi. I guess I am trading pounds for pixie dust too because I hope to reach one goal by my WDW trip and I have 5lbs left to go:woohoo:

Yay! You made it! :wave2:

Welcome to our cozy lil' support group. I was reading on the other thread what you've been eating, etc. and you've certainly got it down, my friend! What do you do for exercise since, I know, as a fellow princess: you're no fan of sweat! LOL

Welcome! :welcome:

I went to a local bra shop. The kind that specializes in fitting, and carries masectomy styles and stuff like that. They even will do alterations if needed to give you a good fit. I wasn't finding anything in the department stores in my size that actually stopped the bounce. I think the woman in the shop thought I was a bit nuts as I had to jump up and down to test all of them out. :rotfl: The one thing there is that they don't keep alot of their stuff (ie the sports bras) out on their small sales floor. They measure you and then start to bring in all kinds of things in your size. If I hadn't asked I would have never known that they actually carried all kinds of stuff. Lots of European brands.

Later when I went to the running specialty store a few towns over to get my sneakers I found they had a good selection of sports bras in more than just the tiny sizes, so that's always a possibility too. I'm glad that I went for an official fitting though because they were able to fix one perfectly for me.

I can't do cheat days either. I tried for awhile, but something in my brain would shut down and I'd go over the edge and eat anything not nailed down. I try to just eat well-rounded everyday, and if a special occasion like a birthday comes up I'll just let myself have a small slice of the cake and not stress about it. I like eating too much to just not have it. ;)

Is there room for another Shrinking Tink?
I started Oct 1st, and have worked on losing bit by bit through the winter.
I've been backreading, and I love the positivity of this thread.
It's one day at a time. Bliss

Now that I've mastered the elliptical I think it's time to move on to the stair machine of death. I can BARELY make 10 minutes on that. Sometimes 5 is my limit.

There is always room for one more shrinking Tink. Welcome! :goodvibes

Now that I've mastered the elliptical I think it's time to move on to the stair machine of death. I can BARELY make 10 minutes on that. Sometimes 5 is my limit.

The elliptical scares me to death. I get worn out just watching people on it. :rotfl: I used to love the stairmaster (the one with the pedals not the revolving stairs), but I haven't been back on it since going back to the gym.

We have a specialty store in Boston (or used to). I'll have to see if they fit for sports bras too.

:rotfl: Seriously, you make me snortlaugh at least once a day.
I can so relate.

Welcome Bliss! There's always room for more Shrinkers! Positivity moves you forward and you're right, it's one day at a time.

Now that I've mastered the elliptical I think it's time to move on to the stair machine of death. I can BARELY make 10 minutes on that. Sometimes 5 is my limit.

I tried the stair machine once. I honestly thought my legs were on fire...I think that was about 2.5 min. after I started! I did love the elliptical, though, when I was at the gym more often. I used to do a pretty fun program on the machine that had me do all sorts of different things. I was never really bored. Tired, sweaty and decidedly unprincess-y, but not bored. LOL

It is DEATH. Like the military should use it as some sort of torture.

I used to be scared to death of the elliptical. Now I love it! It helps me to feel like I'm jogging without having to make a scene out of myself on the treadmill. I never really used to the stairmaster with pedals but this revolving stairs of Hades is pure torture. It was obviously conceived by a male.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can rationalize eating like that because it's "a free day". I sooo cannot leave myself that kind of opening. Has trouble written all over it.

We're kind of like Lay's Potato Chips: Bet you can meet just one!

::crickets::

Well, I laughed.

:lmao: :rotfl::lmao:

Feel any better now? :)

The one with the pedals isn't that bad. If you set it at a low enough level it's fine. The stair one though.....:sad2: wrong in so many ways.

Hi!

I found this thread and thought I might join in. I've only gotten through 5 pages but wanted to go ahead and post a little about me.

I'll be 42 in July - and I'm cool with that
Single
work wierd shedule (it's a "week 1 this and week 2 that" stuff)
don't like exercise - weight machines are ok, but I don't like cardio (more below)
major food issues - going to therapy and basically have an eating disorder (emotional, overeater, binging type of stuff) as well as a REALLY picky eater
problem areas - stomach, hips and thighs
what am I doing? - not much other than the terapy and trying to go to the YMCA. I did start a basic yoga class (dr orders).

I don't like cardio and it doesn't like me. I had knee surgery in 1986. As a result, I don't have much cartlige left in that knee. Ortho dr told me - bike or swim only - no treadmill, steps/stairs or eliptical. I'm not even suppose to walk up stairs unless absolutely necessary. This past December at WDW really made my knee hurt for a week afterwards.

I'm taking a bunch of supplements due to recent blood work and because of a muscle contraction problem I have in my head and neck. The neuro. thinks I may be pre-diabetic. He added alpha lupeic acid recently for metabolism. I don't know.

I get severe anxiety when thinking about how to diet. I want to scoop up all the food in the world and hide it. I'm intelligent enough to know "everything in moderation", but I just freak out anyway. i also don't like most veggies and can't stand fish or eggs. Those make me gag, but I'm not allergic. I also don't know how to cook - seriously. I'm afraid to try since I don't know how it will taste and don't want to waste time making something I won't like. Really need to work on this. I've tried looking for someplace locally for classes - but nothing. The only place offers the class only when I can't attend - and it's $300 for six weeks.

I really need to get a handle on all of this due to family history - heart disease in sister, mom, g.mother & g.father and his father. Dad's side was much better heart wise.

Thanks for reading. I'll try to catch up to this page this weekend.

Kristi

HI Kristi!!! :wave2: And welcome!

what am I doing? - not much other than the terapy and trying to go to the YMCA. I did start a basic yoga class (dr orders).

I wouldn't call that "not much" honey. Therapy is hard, hard work and it's a GREAT place to start. When I started going to therapy about 4-5 years ago I went once a week or every two weeks. Now I'm down to once a month. It's STILL hard. But stick with it. It's so rewarding.

bike or swim only

Does your Y have a pool? Could you swim there? I wish my gym had a pool. I think I'd be there 6 out of 7 days!

I'm taking a bunch of supplements due to recent blood work and because of a muscle contraction problem I have in my head and neck. The neuro. thinks I may be pre-diabetic. He added alpha lupeic acid recently for metabolism. I don't know.

I've found one of the best things you can do for yourself (and, if you have control issues like yours truly) is understand what you're taking and why. A page or two back I recommended a general nutrition book. I learned SO MUCH about what vitamins and minerals the body requires and why. And if you're taking something for a specific condition, read anything and everything you can on both the condition and the supplement. Been there, done that. I have a liver issue and the strongest tool in your arsenal (even if you didn't know you had an arsenal) is education.

Rather than $300, I have a free suggestion - the internet! ;) I'm not being nasty, I actually have a good idea. As a moderately reformed picky eater myself, I get where you're coming from. And you don't have to be a chef to be a cook, SO - think of a dish that you like. Any dish. Even if it's not healthy. Then find a recipe, either online, or post it here and I'm sure one of us can give you a recipe. Then, make it. Your anxiety should be lessened because you know you ultimately like the dish itself. The ingredients are familiar even if working with them isn't. Then, maybe next time, try something different. Perhaps add a vegetable you do like.

Finally, rely on us here!!! For anything!!! Vent. Bounce questions off us. Rejoice! Share recipes. Things can be exponentially easier when you aren't going it alone. In addition to the Tinks, my boyfriend helps me. He is the LAST person on the planet that needs to worry about losing weight, etc. He's 6', 200 pounds and I can't remember him not having abs. But we decided, together, that this year we would try new foods. Things we've always said we 'didn't like' even if we'd never tried it before. So far we've tried sushi. A couple of times. We gave it a fair shot. Ultimately neither of us care for it but I know we're both happy we tried it. BF doesn't care for asparagus (nor do I), but it came with a meal he recently had at the California Grill at the Contemporary and it looked fresh and well cooked so he gave it a shot.

I've always thought the hardest part of all of this is stepping out of your comfort zone. It's awkward and scary. I know I posted it a page or so back but it's worth reiterating - try to get your hands on a copy of MJ Ryan's This Year I Will.... It's about changing habits of ALL kinds, including food/health habits.

You can do this. And we're here to help. :thumbsup2
Be good to yourself. You deserve it.

My Y does have a pool - one of the reasons I joined. It's hard to work around the classes using it as well as Masters Swim as that blocks the lap lanes. I don't get off work early enough to make the water aerobic classes. Why do places that offer classes assume all the world gets off at 5pm?

Getting info isn't too hard for me as I am a Librarian, so I can fit some of that in between customers. I checked for the book you mentioned, but we don't own it in our system. I'll have to do a search for ILL to get it.

Cooking is very difficult as my Mom was an "open the can and drop it in the pan" kind of cook (still love her though). She didn't use herbs, seasonings or spices. Therefore, I don't know much about them or if I would like them. I suspect I'm a bit sensitive to rosemary though. My ability to cook is more than just looking at a recipe - it's actually how to do the techniques - how to tell if its done and such.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Kristi

UGH. That's crappy. I run into the same problem. I get off work at 5 p.m. but I have an hour and a half commute.

Learing to cook IS overwhelming. I was terrified when I started, so I just started slow. Like, literally only using salt and pepper! And I just built up from there. You'll get it!!! :goodvibes

Good morning everyone! It's Weigh-In Wednesday!

I did remember to get on the scale this morning. In fact I was feeling pretty confident that I'd see a loss until right before I stepped onto that sucker.

Does that happen to anyone else? You're so confident you lost weight - you followed your plan, you exercised, your clothes feel better but then seconds before you step on the scale you're suddenly positive that you gained 300lbs in just 7 days? :rotfl:

But I stepped on the scale anyway and this past week's hard work has paid off! I'm DOWN 2.6LBS!!! Woohoo!!!

I will say this, I did great but I know I can do better. I mostly followed up with my food goals and, when I didn't, I made the best choice I could. There were a couple of instances where I lapsed and made bad choices but you live and you learn.

I also haven't yet added daily exercise to the mix, which I'm planning on doing in the next week or so, so that will help out too.

How is everyone else making out?

That's great Tink! 2.6 lbs is fantastic.

I gave in to the urge to ignore the scale this morning and hopped on after I got out of the shower. I was convinced that I was going to have a bad week. Why I don't know, because even though I had a few moments when I could have done better, I know that I had eaten much better than I had been. But I woke up today feeling fat and just icky. Ever have one of those days when you just feel like your stretching your skin a little bit more than usual? I don't know if I'm retaining water or what this morning, but I was not feeling the scale love this morning.

Needless to say I was completely shocked to hop on the scale this morning to find it telling me I weigh 214.0. I can't remember what it was last Wed., but I'm thinking it was something like 218.somethingorother. 4 lbs! Seriously made my morning. I felt much better after that, although still feeling fat today.

Just went back to double check my weigh in from last week and it was 217.4 so it was a 3.4 lb loss this week. I'm happy!
