Shrinking Tink: Trading Pounds for Pixie Dust

Thanks. I'm thinking if I go right when I get off the train, it will keep me from getting too lazy. Once I walk in the house, and it's already dark outside I'm just useless. Plus if I walk at the mall, I can save some $$ by not turning the heat on. :thumbsup2

Again, a great idea. It'll keep you going to do it right after you get out of work. Once I get home, I hate going out again. I do it twice a week, but it stinks. :lmao: I'm happy once I get there, it's just the getting there.

I'm just feeling so yucky in my own skin with the extra weight back on. I'm definitely a stress/emotional eater. I use food to comfort myself. I thought I had gotten over that, but I've gone right back to doing the same thing. I guess I need to deal with it as a minor addiction that never really goes away, just gets beat back into submission periodically.

I identify. I am not at all back to where I want to be, and I'm fluctuating a bit. I really need to kick it up to three times a week and make healthier food choices, but I'm trying. And I've bought clothes that fit. Half the battle for me is not feeling fat in my clothes, so some new work pants and jeans have done the trick. If I look good, I feel good, and vice versa, you know?

I really need new work pants. All the ones I have are just too tight, and not comfortable at all. I've been making due with wearing skirts, but as it gets colder, I'm longing for pants more. I hate to go out though and spend the money when I won't be wearing for long. I'm going to have to deceided to just buy them, or really stick to it so I can be wearing my old ones.

Why not just get a couple of pairs?

That's what I did recently with the Old Navy Jeans. Is it my normal size? No. But do I need something that fits? Yes. Will I lose weight and they may be too big? Yes.

But that's okay, hon. Let yourself have some nice clothes now, and don't feel like it's a defeat. It will make you feel better, trust me.

Your right. A pile of pants that don't fit is only making me feel horrible. Jeans I have, as I picked up a few pairs at Steve and Barry's this summer. I don't have much luck with their regular pants. I'll have to check out Old Navy and Kohls. Even just a couple of pairs - basic black, tan, brown to tide me over.

I have really good luck at Kohls with Dockers. They seem to be sized a bit bigger, and most have a nice roomy fit. I know they can be more casual, but usually when you get basic black, it's hard to tell if pants are "dressy" enough. I employ this strategy at the bank when I can. :lmao:

Our only nos are jeans and leggings, although I have occasionally worn a pair of off white or rust colored jeans and no one has been the wiser as they don't really look like jeans. They are just so much more comfortable!

I am really more of a skirt girl. Always have been at least when I can't wear jeans. It's only the stupid bitter cold that makes me go running for covering.

Just checking in a bit. So far so good this week. I had slightly bigger weakness on Monday, but since then have been very good. I had a gingerbread latte yesterday, but I made it a skim and really don't feel very guilty about it. (It was very, very good).

I did get a bit annoyed with myself/discouraged when a pair of boots that I had bought on ebay. I've been wanting leather boots for ages now, but as I have wide muscular calves I could never find a pair that fit. The ones I bought on ebay were wide calves, but alas still not wide enough.

Since I bought them on ebay I can't return them. I'm debating on whether or not to turn around and resell them now, or wait until I've lost some weight to see if it helps any.

Good job, hon! And we all deserve a little treat like that latte. Total self deprivation will get you nowhere.

Bummer about the boots, but at least you're on the right track! :goodvibes

I'm very grateful that gingerbread latte season only lasts a month or I'd gain a ton of weight. They are the only coffee I like.

I'm determined to find a pair of boots that fit. I have boots on the brain and won't be happy until I find some.

Hi everyone. I have been lurking around the boards for a while now. Mostly the WISH boards and the Trip reports. Anyway, I decided to post and maybe keep myself a little more accountable to stay on track if I tell others about it. I am currently at 173 and around 5'5". That is actually down about 11 lbs since Halloween. I have only been half hearted at my attempts though. The holidays are really hard. Makes me want to eat everything. :headache: Hopefully I can keep it together. I would love to loose 10 more pounds before Christmas, but that might not be possible. :confused3 It has really snuck up on me. I haven't been exercising at all, so I am planning on starting to incorporate it into my diet also and hopefully that will get me jump started again. I will try to keep you posted.

Welcome! These boards are a great source of inspiration and motivation.

Hey, speaking of jogging on the treadmill...I'm horrible at it, but, I found this little snippet in a Woman's Day mag and it's worked for me so far. They recommend to get yourself conditioned, start your first week by walking 5 minutes, then jogging/running 3 minutes. You alternate this until you've hit 30 minutes. Let me tell you, it makes my workouts go so much faster! But it also is a study in contrast, because the five minutes go by so fast and the three minutes feel really, really loooooooong.:lmao: I don't remember what weeks 2-4 are, but if you want I'm sure I could dig out the magazine. It's basically just an increase of jogging minutes and decrease of walking minutes combo.:thumbsup2

I just have a manual I snagged for $25 at a garage sale so I walk. I like to watch the view and do the treadmill on days I don't work early. I switch to the news channells on commercials or John Stewart/Colbert. Sometimes I'll break it up by playing with the cats with a feather toy (actively lol) or scooping the litter boxes ( I have 14) in segments. I also have a stepper that I'll use for maybe 15 minutes of that time. Usually when the kitten is getting too interested in the treadmill lol.

Welcome newbies!

I haven't been terribly good lately, but had a bit of a moment of reckoning the other day. I've been busy scanning old Christmas photos to make a photo book with. It was quite scary looking at my old photos from the mid 90's to about two years ago. I don't think I ever looked objectively at how overweight I really was. It was a bit horrifying. Two years ago, I lost over 50 lbs. I've since gained back a portion of it, but luckily not all of it.

Seeing the pictures has recharged me to get back on track 100%. I spent the majority of my 20's and 30's fat and feeling horrible. There's no reason why I need to spend the rest of my life that way.

Hi everyone! It's been ages since there has been activity here, so I thought I'd check in and see how everyone else is doing.

I hope everyone's efforts have been going well. I definitely over-did it over the holidays this year and became determined afterwards to start doing something about it. I found myself getting tired of stalwarting my own efforts and seeing no real results.

About a month ago I finally decieded to make a real concentrated effort into dealing with my biggest obstacle - exercise. In the summer I like to take walks in the evening, but living in CT that means there are lots of times of the year that just isn't the best choice. I deceided to open up the pocketbook and join my local gym. I would have loved to join a gym closer to work, but all the places in the city run at least $80+ a month plus initiation fees. (Soooo was not going to happen on my budget). I joined a gym about 2 mins from my house that is only $20 a month plus they waived the initiation fees.

Something surprising has happened. I found a kind of exercise that I really like. Zumba class. :woohoo:I can only make two of the times they have a week but I find myself really looking forward to the class. It's just so much fun, and doesn't feel at all like a typical work-out even though the sweat is just pouring off of you. The rest of the week I fill in with a yoga class, the treadmill and a fusion pilates class. (Which is kicking my butt!:scared1:) Tuesdays and Fridays are my off-days.

I had a complimentary personal training session, which was nice, but I just don't have the money to continue with it just now. She gave me a great workout, but it was one of those workouts that would be much harder to do when I wasn't working out with someone really pushing me. I'd like to get someone to put together a weight workout for me using the machines to fit in on my treadmill days.

I'm completely amazed that I'm enjoying working out this much. I'm even contemplating trying to do some running which is completely mind boggling to me.

I still haven't lost that much weight - about 10 or so lbs so far. It's not alot, but I'm feeling much better about myself. Now I just have to get going with the eating too.

Is anyone still out there? I haven't been around in a while. I have been plugging along, hanging in there. I had gained a few pounds but I lost half of them. I just joined a gym. Planet Fitness has a special $1 to join and it's only $10 a month! I have 3 different people I can go with (I refuse to go alone) so now there really is NO excuse for not going. I'm going to the World in 54 days and this time I'm going to HAVE to wear a bathing suit. :scared1: There's no way DS is going to go through a whole June trip without swimming. So that is my motivation for now.

That's great. When I joined a gym a month or so ago, I looked at Planet Fitness too since the deal was so good. I ended up going with another chain though because they offered group classes and Planet Fitness did away with all their classes. Luckily the one I joined is only $10 more a month, and they do have 5 locations I can use. I've only been to 2 of them, but it makes it much more convient to go to my favorite classes.

That's excellent. I feel so good about myself since I joined the gym. I really love going. I went today with one friend and I'll go again with my other friend later on tonight (around midnight). I'm trying to get there as often as possible since I just bought a bathing suit last night for my June trip to Disney. :scared1:
