Should I take my 10 yr old son in the ladies restroom?

Um...I am one of the people who thinks a boy should go into the Ladies Room WITH his mother until both Mother & Child are comfortable letting him go alone in the men's room.

I think it is crazy to send a boy into a potentially dangerous situation because a few women or girls are "uncomfortable".

Absolutely! It's not my problem if someone is so insecure that a 10 year old kid puts them on edge. My goodness. I'm not going to sacrifice my kids sense of safety and security or mine because someone else has some sort of issue with children.

Of course we can't protect them in every instance... but I DO have control over whether they are alone in a bathroom or not so I will exercise that control until I'm good and ready not to!

OH - one more thing to add to my conversation with my son (and the last post by my4kids prompted me to remember it) i asked him if he generally used the stalls or if he used the urinals?

he said if he had to use the stalls (#2) he did, but otherwise he used the urinals? i asked why, creeps could be watching you. he said, yea, but generally at the urinals, there are other people around and a creep would be less likely to do something with other guys around. plus, he said, that in the stall if someone comes in on you, you are cornered. at the urinal, you can make a quick get away.

again - 11 YO logic, but it seemed relevant.

I know when I take my 17 year old son into the ladies room, I make sure he knows how to leave the facilities. I know what you're going to say but I just don't feel comfortable letting him go into the men's room by himself. And since I'm not confortable with it, he's coming with me into the ladies room. Curiously, though, he has no objections to it.

I had this dilemma myself as my son is 10. But he solved it for me by absolutely refusing to come into a ldies room with me. EVER. So I gave him the talk about what to do if someone appraches him, I show him where to stand when he is done, and comes back outside.

sorry I don't buy this - what about the 20 yr old's and up....that are attacked in bathrooms? I guess mamma didn't teach 'em?

First what Disney bathrooms are you going to where 20 yr. old are getting attacked?

And your talking about totally different things

you are standing outside the restroom if anything happens you can run in cause you'll hear if something is wrong. And believe it or not the majority of the world looks down on and will stop someone missing with a kid. Last time I checked pediphila(sp?) was frowned on.

no matter how you look at it 10 is too old to be going in the womens restroom

:rotfl: he probably doesn't complain cause the light is better in the woman's room so he can shave while he's waiting for mom if he didn't have time that morning :rotfl:

i do somewhat take exception to the fact that if i don't want a 10+ yr old boy watching me through the crack in the door i must be "insecure" ah no,i don't want anyone watching me through the crack but especially a young man, it's not polite for one thing, so in that case take them in the stall with you, unless you are too"insecure"..that would be inappropriate you say? well i say it's inappropriate for him to watch a stranger to.

P.S. I don't think this is the thread for jokes either.

Well, that's what great about these boards, we can have differing opinions and we can post them.

I think a couple of jokes to lighten the thread are great!
