Should I switch S/P/D to room only?

Help! Just booked a S/P/D deal at WL. They told me the entire balance is going to be due in mid December. I'm thinking this may be a bit of a hardship for us to come up with 5k right before Christmas. We're expecting a large check in Jan that would pay for most of our trip. Would it be a good idea for me to switch my package to a room only reservation? I think the price is pretty close to the same (Woods View at WL) and that way I won't need to pay the balance before arrival, is this correct? We know we want the dining plan but can I add that later?

You can't add the DDP to a room only. You'd basically be canceling your package, rebooking now as a room only, and then when you go to add the DDP you be canceling and rebooking again.

RO reservations the balance is due at check in.

Thank you!! I guess I'll have to do some refiguring.

I read online it's not exactly S/P/D, that it's not quite kid's prices. Is this true?

Yes. They changed the offer this year. They now require a 2 day ticket minimum, and 'some of the package components' are discounted - room and dining - depending upon the type of room and resort.

It's not adults pay child price any longer but it will probably be close.

I'm hoping!

You absolutely CAN add the dining plan to a room only reservation. I have done it several times!!!

This may be a stupid suggestion, but do you have a Disney Visa? If so, you could pay the balance now, have 6 months free financing, and pay the balance off in January when the check comes in?

Good luck :flower3:

There is no problem with adding the dining plan to a room only reservation. You will even be able to keep your discount. We did the exact same thing last Jan for our Feb reservation at WL. We booked a room only with the Oct discount, then in Jan we added the dining plan. Yes, they cancel the one reservation, refund the deposit and book a new reservation, but it isn't a problem at all. :)

Its not a stupid question at all. I do have a DV but I wanted to pay for our trip with gift cards from Target as the 5% savings will be significant. I won't have the cash available to purchase the gift cards prior to the 18th. Also, we like to use the DV for all our everyday purchases to accrue the rewards which we'd have no room to do with a large chunk of the trip sitting on there during a time of year where we have heavy spending.

I ended up calling back and booking the RO discount which ended up cheaper than the SPD anyway. I'm happy to know that we could add the DP later, although after crunching the numbers I find it highly unlikely that we will actually spend the $1900 the DP will cost. I think I will just put that money on a gift card and do our own "dining plan". Then, if there's anything left at the end we can use it on souvenirs. It'll be much lower stress for me this way. At least it seems so right now with my tired brain from waking up at 4am to book.

Thanks for all the help! :)

You can't add dining to a room only reservation. You can add a room only discount to a PACKAGE which would only discount the room portion.

The dining plan requires tickets - tickets/room combo = a package.

The only people that can add a dining plan without purchasing tickets is military, DVC, AP holders, and cast members.
