Should Harry Potter have chosen Hermione over Ginny?

I love how Harry, who has no family, married Ginny and now is officially part of the Weasley family. They always treated him like their own and now Harry has a family.

Same goes for Hermione….. she obliviated her parents and now has no family. The Weasleys always welcomed her with open arms and now she is a part of their family too.

I am VERY glad Harry and Hermione did not get married. This is written for young adults, and I like how it shows that a boy and girl can be best friends and nothing more. One of my best friends for 35 years is a man, and we were never interested in more than friendship.

ETA….I’m a true Hufflepuff 🙂👍🏻
I totally agree on the being friends thing but it's kind of negated a bit by having Hermione end up with either one of them. I kinda wish they would have just let them all remain platonic and brought in other love interests like they had been having all along. I'm the same as you! One of my very best friends of 25 years or so is a guy, and a rather cute one, and although I find him to be a good looking person, we're just so close that it would feel gross lol. I could never see him in a romantic light even if I tried. One of us would tell a joke and it would all go to pieces. :rotfl2:

Nope.

The real problem is that the Ginny they cast didn't have any chemistry with Daniel. This relationship is much better in the books.
I think it was because the actress herself was so young and she just never blossomed into a GOOD actress throughout the series. She seemed nervous in all of her scenes. They needed a more outgoing little girl from the get go to portray the confident girl that she became. I saw zero confidence in movie Ginny.

Someone here asked why they couldn’t marry outside their world and I read somewhere that Cho did marry a muggle. It’s also a huge part of McGonagall’s and Seamus Finnegan’s backstory in regards to mixed marriages between muggles and the wizarding world.

Ginny was just thrown in their so there could be a continued connection between Hermione and Harry (as family). That was basically her only purpose/vehicle for story arc and her point of view or character was never fully developed in the movies.

it's funny you say this. I was annoyed that Harry Didn't die in the end and stay dead. I thought that would've been an epic ending and not the typical happy predictable ending. I also thought it would've been super cool if Neville HAD been the chosen one all along. That would have been a great plot twist.
This is something I'd never really thought out... I was too vested in Harry at that point lol

Fellow Hufflepuff, and I thought the same thing. Harry finally gets to have a huge family, who'd welcomed him from day one, and I always thought Ron and Hermione would be together
I was thinking her an Umbridge would make a good pair
Excellent point

I always thought Ron and Hermione would end up together. From The Goblet of Fire on anyway. Harry, I did think Luna would have made a good pairing for him, but Luna and Neville would have been better. Book Harry and Ginny were pretty good though.

I read all the books first. But now, my kids are seeing the movies first because we have a trip to Universal coming up and reading the books is taking us a while. I have to explain things to them bc s much is missing in the movies. Like why the Dursley's were so mean to Harry. There wasn't enough in the start of that movie to adequately explain why they were so horrible to him. It makes me sad that we didn't get through the books first.

Ron was such a doofus -- don't know what Hermione saw in him.
Most of them are doofuses, chumps, and/or goobers. There are really little to no cool kids at Hogwarts, and a sad state of affairs that is for dating prospects. The rest of you, just agree, because even if JK Rowling flat-out says that so-and-so is "cool", well that's a definite sign of uncoolness if the author even has to tell us. Take Joe Cool from Peanuts: attitude, sunglasses, and a leather jacket. Show, not tell, Rowling!

That said, Harry is not cool, but seems cool only because he's around Ron and Hermione. The biggest IT D&D nerd looks like Jack Kerouac next to those brats. Thus, in most other social circles, Harry is an utter sop. That's where we come full circle to this dating dilemma, because you need someone to compliment Harry's wet dishrag personality. Someone to spice up his life and bring out the lightning tiger that lies dormant within his pale wireframe of a figure.

Honest question, did Hogwarts or Ilvermorny prepare there students better for post graduation life during the times of the series? Seriously, Ilvermorny parents paid for their children to get a quality and safe education. Hogwarts basically had finals canceled twice, only one good defense against the dark arts professor, and had students in danger every moment they started a new school year. I mean if you were a parent, would you ask for a refund? I actually wonder if Ilvermorny grads had better job prospects than Hogwarts. I would love to know if Hogwarts lost any accreditation when it came to school safety. 🤣

Actually yes that’s the whole points of the O.W.L’s year 5 and the N.E.W.T.’s year 7 (the movies only focused on the former). The owls basically are for them to take advanced classes that will be for their newts which will help them get jobs or even internships, schools (yes there are colleges. Apparently there is a wizarding academy of dramatic art) and other opportunities. They still have to go through training. Fleur and Bill met because Fleur received a job or internship (I can’t remember) at Gringotts.
Other students also learn trades or take their skills elsewhere like the Weasley twins. They dropped out before completing their 7th year (which is the 5th movie is represented by them interrupting the owls and setting off fireworks) to make weasleys wizard wheezes. Harry even gave them some money from his inheritance to help them open it. I believe somewhere it is known that Newt Scamander had to go to school to become a zoologist and his brother Theseus fought in World War 1 as mentioned in the FB movies.

I just got really nerdy there for a second lol

While I love Harry, that shows a little more forethought /common sense than Harry typically displays.

Yeah, and when they chose Bonnie Wright she was a small child -- hard to predict future chemistry between children.
And let's not be too hard on them; they were spot-on with Alan Rickman and so many other actors.

Interesting, but they'd so rarely be together, and I don't see Harry carrying on a long-distance relationship. The girl'd write him three letters, he'd write her none, and she'd give up on him.

That DOES sound like a Rowing name.

Agree, as Rowling surely knew of Harry-Ginny's future; however, in her defense, she was new to movie production.

She DID tell Alan Rickman about Snape's love for Lily, though, so she could've had some input about Harry/Ginny. Ginny was decent in Chamber of Secrets, but maybe just didn't enough screen time with Harry until Half-Blood Prince (don't remember offhand, but doesn't strike me as much), so perhaps that was it.

I would think Durmstrang girls are probably more tomboyish maybe? Fireside chats and port keys would solve communication issues in my opinion.
Okay, I can kinda buy that.

Agree she's not the best actress -- but she's a pretty girl.
Admittedly, Book Ginny was nervous around Harry in Book 2 -- she already had a crush on him, and Ron said she'd been talking about Harry all summer. Thus her embarassment when Ron & the twins drove the magical car /brought Harry to their home for the first time, and Ginny was in her pajamas.
But as she grew up, why did she remain nervous? No answer.

Yes, I think it's Seamus who tells us early in the story, "My mum's a witch, my dad's a muggle -- bit of a surprise for him." But I don't think it's common for wizards/witches to marry "outside of their world".
I am more concerned about who Aunt Marge ended up with after she got deflated.
Easy: her dogs!
