No. Harry and Hermione were super close, but more like pseudo-siblings to each other than in a romantic way.
Yeah, JKRowling has said she wrote Harry and Hermione to be "the siblings they never had". I never saw any inkling of romantic love between the two of them; even in the scene added to the movie in which they dance in the tent, it's more of friends-dancing /a momentary escape from the tedium of their task -- not a loving moment. It's a tender moment, but not a moment fraught with romantic looks.
On the other hand,
we did see that Ron was jealous when Hermione went to the Yule Ball with Krum; and when Belatrix LeStrange was about to torture Hermione, Ron went ballistic trying to escape the basement-prison, even though he knew he could not get out. I can think of several other times when Ron was definitely protective /showed more than a friendly interest in Hermione -- not that he said it out loud.
Ron was pretty useless in the series as far as helping Harry accomplish much in destroying horocruxes/making the prophecy easier to complete. Had Harry not met him or Harry not get involved with Ginny, none of the Weasleys would have died/been targeted. Just my opinion.
I dunno ... the Weasleys were part of Order of the Phoenix. They would've been in the thick of things /would've been targets even had they not been Harry's greatest supporters.
Ron was very useful to Harry early in the story - he was Harry's first wizarding-world friend, and he helped him navigate a world that was new to him.
it's funny you say this. I was annoyed that Harry Didn't die in the end and stay dead. I thought that would've been an epic ending and not the typical happy predictable ending. I also thought it would've been super cool if Neville HAD been the chosen one all along. That would have been a great plot twist.
Either of them could have been the chosen one -- they both "fit the prophecy", but Voldemorte believed it was Harry, and in killing Harry's parents /pursuing Harry Voldemorte essentially made Harry to be the chosen one.
I love how Harry, who has no family, married Ginny and now is officially part of the Weasley family. They always treated him like their own and now Harry has a family.
Same goes for Hermione….. she obliviated her parents and now has no family. The Weasleys always welcomed her with open arms and now she is a part of their family too.
Yes, this is one of the biggest reasons I think Ginny-Harry is the right pairing. What does Harry want more than anything? Family. What does Ginny have in spades? Family. She's also a very powerful woman and Harry's equal (
not that Hermione isn't).
I guess it was never said, but I assumed that Hermione had the option to go find her parents in Australia and "un-do" her spell /get her parents back. Of course, if this is untrue, she still made the right choice -- the other option would've been to allow Voldemorte to take over the world.
I thought Neville was such an interesting character. More than Harry
Neville is great. Some of my favorite details at the end of the novel revolve around him: He's the leader of the student-revolution, his grandmother says "Excuse me, I must go help my grandson."
Why can't Harry date outside of Hogwarts? Maybe Harry would like a goblin gal who works at the bank? Why must you all place such pressure on him after all he's been through? Maybe Harry needs therapy before he jumps into the dating circle. Wizards have complex emotions too, muggles!
Well, when you live at a boarding school, your options are limited.
Ron was such a doofus -- don't know what Hermione saw in him.
Ron was quite intelligent -- well, book Ron was quite intelligent -- he was just lazy and didn't apply himself. Kinda like a lot of teenaged boys, he just did what he had to do academically. When push comes to shove, Ron shows he has some real magical prowess.
