Should Harry Potter have chosen Hermione over Ginny?

No. Harry and Hermione were super close, but more like pseudo-siblings to each other than in a romantic way.

Ernie MacMillian, I believe.

The movie did not do their relationship justice. It was more believable in the books. Plus, marrying Ginny makes him a real part of the Weasley family!

I do too.
Ron was pretty useless in the series as far as helping Harry accomplish much in destroying horocruxes/making the prophecy easier to complete. Had Harry not met him or Harry not get involved with Ginny, none of the Weasleys would have died/been targeted. Just my opinion.

Harry may have worked better with Cho, if they hadn't messed up the 5th movie...
The differences between the movie and the book were not all that meaningful as far as Cho and Harry's possible romance was concerned. Each pretty much crushed it in their own ways.
The movie really doesn't go that much into the budding romance between the two but when Cho betrays dumbledore's army, it was over.
But in the books it is her friend Marietta Edgecomb. However, Cho very much didn't think much of Hermoine's Jinx and defended her friend and that didn't sit well with Harry. And to be honest, neither Harry, nor Cho were in a good place that year for a relationship. It was awkward from the very first date.

Given that Hermione wasn’t interested in him, how exactly would he have been able to choose her?
Some would say they bonded in the tent after Ron left for those couple months. J.K. Rowling said in an interview that she thought she might have made a mistake by not having them ending up together. Chosen may have been the wrong word. Maybe I should have said: Do you think Harry should have pursued a romantic relationship with Hermione over Ginny? Remember, Lily didn’t fall for James for many years. To be honest when book 7 came out, I thought Hermione and him were going to be together in the epilogue. I didn’t skip to the end like some of my friends and when Ron left the tent, I thought they would become an item. :confused3

Wait... They didn't? I guess I decided years ago it should have been and over time it became true in my head. Off for some exestential regret and wishful thinking... ;)
You're not imagining it - the last movie did hint at it during the battle scene, but it was never in the books.

The movies did a terrible job with the relationships. The books, everyone makes more sense. Not a huge fan of Ron and Hermione, but the book does a better job with them.
The movies (as fun as they are, and as glad as I am to have them) kind of did Ron a disservice. Some of his lines and contributions in the book were given to Hermione in the movie to promote strong female characters. (For instance, in the shrieking shack in Prisoner of Abakan, it was really Ron - on a broken leg, no less - who jumped in front of Harry saying "you'll have to kill us first".)

In the movies, I thought Harry and Hermione had much more chemistry than Harry and Ginny. Of course, those kids were all young when they were cast, and it probably wasn't easy to predict how much their acting skills would improve.

Never thought about it but I'd agree with Luna, they connected on such a bonding level with the Thestrals and all, plus she's super powerful and warm.

Ginny adored him and is cute but they never seemed to connect, that probably could have been nurtured more by the franchise. Hermione should have been allowed to go off with Viktor Krum, there was chemistry there. Ron seems like he would have paired better with someone more playful, like a younger version of Tonks.

all of them ending up with their school partners was very much unbelievable. If not Harry, Hermione should have ended up with someone who appreciated how brilliant she was.
Or someone willing to take her abuse. I couldn't stand that character. In the book OR the movies. She spoke to everyone like they were idiots. I think we've all had friends like Hermione who think it's okay to constantly speak hatefully to you, but when you give them a taste of their own medicine, they go all to pieces. I can't stand the scene where she's reading the deathly hallows and Ron interrupts and says, "midnight, mum always said midnight". The hateful look she gives Ron makes me hate her even more. I mean, why does she think that's called for....like ever? Ok rant over. lol

Your opinion or did Rowling actually say that?
She apparently confirmed it in an interview eons ago. Like when the last book came out eons ago.

FWIW, I think they ended up with the right people. And while Harry and Luna would’ve balanced each other out well, they were actually and arguably a better example of a platonic friendship than Hermione and Harry at times. Plus Luna married Newt Scamander’s grandson which I think is a lot better of a match.

I wanted Harry to end up with Luna as well. I thought it was the perfect fit because Harry was such a champion of the underdog. I think it would've been a nice message to the young readers. Neville and Jenny would've been a better fit for me. The fact that book Jenny was supposed to be so cool and all. Her giving Neville the time of day he deserved would have been nice to see rather than the completely obvious choices that were thrown together. I was never a fan of the Jenny character in the books. Everyone seems to like her but I read her as the town hoochie lol.

Fred should have lived and Ron should have died in my opinion.:confused3
it's funny you say this. I was annoyed that Harry Didn't die in the end and stay dead. I thought that would've been an epic ending and not the typical happy predictable ending. I also thought it would've been super cool if Neville HAD been the chosen one all along. That would have been a great plot twist.

For those who didn’t like this response: I think Neville was more of a true friend to Harry than Ron. Fred seemed to also have more useful skills and never was jealous or treated Harry badly.
I thought Ron was written the most real of anyone. If he had been just the perfect friend to a T, then the relationships in the books would have come off as completely fake to me. Same with the Cho relationship. It was nothing more than kids being kids and dating this one and that one here and there like most people do. I liked that Ron went through a phase where he got jealous. It represented the fights we've all had at one point or another with their best friend. I know my best friend and I surely did. We were kids. We betrayed each other a time or two, found "new friends" and then missed each other and apologized. She's still one of my best friends today. It was a normal flow of a relationship to me instead of portraying him as a trusty sidekick to Harry's superhero.
