Shortcut

I have only been to Disney World 5 times but have never heard of this before. After wishes Saturday night, My son and I were coming from the tomorrowland terrace area to leave the park and cast members were pointing people towards a shortcut out of the park that brought us behind the main st. buildings on the bakery side and brought us out by the hat shop that is at the entrance of the park. It was very quick but I thought it was a no-no to let guests see behind the scenes. ??

They open that backstage area up when crowds are high. My understanding is that they were planning to theme that area somewhat, although I haven't heard any updates on that recently.

that shortcut is really no secret.
disney used to only use it during the most crowded times of the year but in recent months they've been using it on a regular basis as it helps alleviate the backups on main st. usa.

and there has been word tht they are going to theme it so its no longer "behind the scenes".

That shortcut is a recent Disney construction project to help lessen the crowd mass after the fireworks show. The widening of the Hub's walkways (ongoing behind the construction walls) is another project with the same goal. The Plan called for the backstage pathway to be decorated so guests don't feel like they're in a typical backstage area. But I haven't read about the project being "officially completed." Was there anything special about the pathway?

They are just continuing to use the "unimproved" backstage route until the upgrades can be implimented.

And there's one behind the other side of main street as well that we used to exit the park in December when we were leaving as the MVMCP was starting.

We were in Magic Kingdom a few years ago while they were filming the Christmas Special and They had us use the same backstage path to get around Main Street except they wrapped us all the way around and we came out near Buzz Lightyear.

Some work has been completed to the East ByPass through Park 1, including new gates by Tony's, utilities, railings, curbs, plantings, concrete work, changes to exist backstage CM related areas, bus transportation pickup/dropoff locations and some "back of Main St. building" facade enhancement. Actually been quite a bit of work done in the last year. Even if guests are using the bypass now, a lot of the work completed is still blocked off from view.

The coolest thing I remember is you walked by the room where they filled the balloons they sell on Main Street. The door was open that there were hundreds of balloons in the room.
