Shipping purchases from DTD

I'm pretty sure I read that you can have the DTD stores ship your purchases home, right? I plan to do some Christmas shopping, so I need to keep the items out of my kids' sight, and it would be great to not have to pack it all up and lug it home.

Does anyone know the approximate cost for this? Is shipping based on the total price of the purchase or weight/size? Any examples would be helpful. Thanks!

:cutie:We have done this every time we go to DTD. The best part was no tax since it was being shipped. It came out cheaper than buying and carrying out. You have to do it by store. Each store has to ship its own items.

We plan on shipping items home as well, so we don't have to pack it all up in our luggage and then onto the airplane.

Another question... can you ship items/packages from your resort? Or just the shops?

I haven't had anything shipped home from a WDW store in awhile, but what I remember is that even though they used Fed Ex, it took a really long time to arrive. I tend to associate Fed Ex with speedy service, but I think WDW uses the cheapest (slowest) Fed Ex delivery possible, and I think it may take awhile before WDW gives your package to Fed Ex.

So don't expect your stuff to arrive quickly.

(Unless my information is out of date, and people have done this recently can tell you differently.)

Last year we got DD4 the Cinderella Castle Playset for $70, and it was another $30 for shipping -- the shipping was so high because we purchased the toy on 12/12! They said it had to be air shipped to get to CT in time for X-mas.

It was worth it! Both daughters love it!

I'm not sure how they calculate the shipping charges. I'd imagine it would be based on weight. I also purchased the Cinderella's Castle playset and had it shipped home, but I only paid $15 for shipping. I didn't need it rushed because I was buying it for Christmas and we were at WDW in September.

I have to tell you the cashier at the World of Disney store was awesome. :thumbsup2 DD was with me when I was purchasing the castle, and it was going to be a Santa present. I had told DD I couldn't buy it because it was too expensive, but that she could ask Santa for it. She was worried that Santa wouldn't know exactly what she wanted, so we took the castle up to the checkout and I asked the cashier if she could help us by sending a note to Santa telling him that DD wanted the castle for Christmas. She caught on right away and gave me a green shipping form to fill out, telling DD she wanted to include our address in her note to Santa so he'd know which Maggie to deliver the present to. Luckily we were buying some other stuff too, and DD didn't catch on that the total I was asked to pay was a whole lot more than the cost of the stuff we'd picked out. I was grateful for the slow shipping because it arrived after we had returned home. DD still thinks the nice lady at Disney sent a note to Santa asking him to give her a castle for Christmas.:)
