SHIP OF FOOLS SISTERHOOD - Strong & Healthy in 2005!!!

Well, We decided not to weigh ourselves today, and this was the last weigh-in for the month and I lost 0 pounds.

Tracy, I hope you don't have to stop exercising.

I have been doing quite well with my balance meals and water intake. Today though, I am drinking caffeine free tea with splenda. Just a differnt taste.

I still need to get downstairs for my treadmill.

Hilton Head is in 3 weeks, but not much pig out food there. We will be in a 1 bdrm, so we can do our own cooking. The tough part will be the drive down. We always munch.

Happy belated birthday to Tanya!!! Janet, you still did great! You can't cut out all the good stuff, especially when celebrating something as special as your dd's bday. You balanced it with other good eating. :)

Tracy, hope it all works out so you can still exercise. If not, take a good attitude and just say this is one of those life curves. You have good attitudes, and that will carry you through the time. Keep us posted, we're here if you want to "talk."

Denine, sometimes at the beginning of new habits, it takes a bit to see outward progress. You are, however, making good health progress inwardly. Kudos to you! Have fun on your next get-away...sure wish dh and I could do that soon!

Tracy, I'm not sending in a weight amount this month. I was not out to loose weight this month, but to begin new habits. I've done this! Next month, I will decrease the nighttime snacks...my down fall. The good things I've been doing far outweigh the snacking...so, I'm off to a good start! I'm happiest about beginning my exercise program. :) It really kicks in those endorphins and I notice a significant difference in my energy and motivation to stay healthy.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Barbara

If you haven't already, you guys have to try the Skinny Cow ice cream treats. They are low in points and soo good. We save points so we can each have one at night.

I really hope to see some progress on the scale next week. So many on the WISH board have already lost several pounds in their first weeks of WW and I haven't lost anything.

I know what I am doing is good for me, I just need to start seeing results to stay motivated.

Skinny Cows Rock!!! The peanut butter ones are 3 points, but most of the rest are only 2 points each! Can you say "portion control"?

Today's weight loss was 2 pounds!!! I think the exercise has really helped!
The advantage to exercise is you get a more cumulative effect for weight loss. You won't see losses right away, but once you start losing, you will see more consistent weight loss and you will have an easier time keeping that loss off. When you reduce caloric intake, you will lose quicker, but it doesn't last.

Denine, hang in there. It will come! Make sure you are counting all the points you are eating and make sure you are eating enough points! Don't answer this here but are you gaining alot? If not, that's great! Don't ignore the fact that you are doing something right1 ;)

This weeks topic: "Are we having fun yet" by Carol Burnett

You need to be having fun, because when you have fun, you are more likely to do it. Think back to the last day before you started your weight loss quest.
Are you eating new foods now? (Skinny Cows, water, for me more shrimp, etc.)
Are you preparing foods in ways you never thought of? (using Pam, spices, broth, etc.)
I didn't know that was exercise. (bowling burns 240 calories, cleaning house, shoveling snow, shopping). There are many ways to get exercise that are fun.
I feel so much better because (better attitude, feel better about myself, etc.)

It's fun to feel better, it's fun to eat new and exciting foods. Find a way over the next week to make your weight loss quest fun and it will be easier!!

Hi all! I've been reading this thread and from what I've read it looks like you all are doing a great job.
Just keep in mind low fat is better and more forgiving when a little cheat is desired. Also that those extra bite will look better left on your plate than on your bum, remember this old saying "pass you lips forever your hips".

30 minutes of exercise doesn't have to be done all at once, 5 minutes 6 times a day is a great start, working into it slowly.
I've been off my healthier life style for awhile but I'm looking forward to returning on Feb 1.
I bought a new bathing suit 2 weeks ago 2 sizes smaller than I am now.
BTW Costco has some nice Speedo 1 peice suits for around $21..

Remember that getting enough sleep is very important when you are reducing.

:hourglass bedtime for me.
Take Care all! :wave2:

I found a box of mini sweet peppers and a box of grape tomatoes and stole the idea of pre-making bags of veggies to take to work. The bag sits on my desk along with my water and when my 10:30 hunger pangs strike there is something right there. Also found a low fat burrito 260 cal but only 10 from fat. I use these on the days the rest of the office orders out for lunch.

One nice thing, I am saving money by resisiting the urge to order out. With the veggies on my desk I am not so ravenous that I am prey to whoever comes in and asks "Do you want . . .deli, chinesse, pizza, panera with us?

I can report 1/10th of an inch gone from the waist and 1/4th from the hips. Doesn't sound like much but if I can keep this up I will be a happy woman.

Dennie, I just did the drive from Baltimore to Orlando recently, I pre-packed a cooler with water a couple of them frozen to everthing else stayed cool, some cut up fruits and veggies and some low fat cheese and crackers. This really helped. We planned a lunch stop at a subway so I had healthy choices available.

I love the three bite rule. That will come on the cruise with me.

I used the three-bite rule at my WW meeting yesterday. Everyone loved it! I may try that sometime, but not on the cruise. Well maybe on the cruise but not for the creme brulee!

Actually on the last cruise on the last night I ordered the banana creme brulee napoleon and had a couple bites then I noticed a fruit fly. I truly believe it had just landed (still alive), but I decided to send the dessert back. Our server deperately wanted to bring me something else, but I said, I'm good. I got a taste and that's all I really needed. Ok, so I lied, I really wanted at least three more bites, but I lived through it

That's what I love about the "3-bite rule!" If I deem a dessert to be a "10", then I have permission to keep enjoying it! If it's less, then I've had my taste, and I'm satisfied. Not having it at all doesn't make me feel virtuous - it makes me feel DEPRIVED!!!!

And we all know what happens next when deprived feelings take over ... :earseek:

Tracy: As far as I know, (from our weekend away) I haven't gained any weight, but I haven't lost any either.

I try to use all my points. I eat healthy and allow myself a treat in the evening. ALl my points are accounted for. At least I won't be getting into any more flex points this weekend.

I like the 3 bite rule. Of course, most of the desserts are a 10, especially the chocolate souffle at Palo!

I still need to do my treadmill for the day. I didn't drink all my water or eat all my veggies or do the treadmill yesterday. I went to the dentist and had novacaine. I have TMJ, so my jaw was out of wack and sore and walking would have made it worse. Chewing on that side was also uncomfortable. I also didn't use all my points. Today I have eaten all my veggies and only have 2 glasses of water to go and I will do the treadmill when I am done on the puter.

eye: I will have to prepackage a bunch of stuff for our drive. I do for home, so why should this be any different?

You're right. Janet is in Canada so its probably more like a kilo she'll gain :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

That's Right!

This isn't the one with the smiley face I want to use!

It was :hourglass !

Since it's been so :cold: :cold: here to start an outdoor program, I got an  !

I went to our local Home Shopping Network Outlet and bought myself a
Gazelle!

Wish me luck trying to get this thing put together!

:cool1:

Janet, it was very easy to put together. I know you can do it. I love my gazelle!! I use it every day. The nice part it isn't a very hard thing to do if you don't want it to be. Did I mention I love my gazelle!

Tracy

YAHOO Janet!!! Let us know how you like it!

Denine...good wishes this week. That is frustrating when you're doing the WW plan and do not loose. Maybe some of that was water weight from your get-away weekend? Restaurant foods are often more salty thus weight gain temporarily. Don't give up! Talk to your WW coordinator if no loss happens again - that is what they are there for...you are paying for the guidance!

Ginger, eyeR.N., and Tracy...thanks for the good tips and sharing!

THIS WEEK:

Add a little more to your exercise routine. More time, laps, a new stretch, and new strength training move.

I'm going to walk the park two laps this week instead of one. I've been doing one lap for two weeks now. Dh is almost done putting his home gym together. Going to try this too, though I am partial to free weights.

Have a great week everyone!!!

Barbara

Barbara: I am not going to WW meetings. I hope the scale is kind this week.

I am so tired today. Yesterday was a rough day. I will try to get my treadmill in later.

Denine, you sound pooped! Hope you are getting some rest. The little bit I've exercised has already helped me with energy. You have a little one though, and I was always tired when my kids were younger. Keeps a mom hopping, right?

I've tried to loose with WW on my own and it never works. Something about going to the meetings and weighing in there is what works for me. Tracy could expand upon that. Good luck! Maybe you really don't need to loose weight, just keep up with your exercise and good eating (and drinking the blasted water!)

Have a good week!

Barbara

The Midway's Diet Buffet
6 Plans guaranteed to help you lose weight*
By Michael Carney

The Midway Low Carb Diet
Admittedly, we were skeptical when the Atkins craze first started, but slowly we came to realize that a well-structured plan to cut back carbohydrates and eat more meat was something that we weren't making money off of yet. So, down with carbohydrates! We're not sure what they are, but leading scientists tell us that they're in bread, not meat. Meat is good for you now, especially the red stuff. It's healthy and helps you lose weight and makes you more attractive to the opposite sex and more likely to win the lottery. Look, I don't care what we said a few years ago about heart disease and mad cow disease and ozone depletion – times have changed, ok? You WILL go out and slaughter a cow with your bare hands and devour it raw right now and you will NOT eat that single saltine cracker sitting on your plate, unless, of course, you simply don't CARE if you're a morbidly obese slob.

The Midway High Carb Diet
We figure that the pendulum is eventually going to swing this way again, so to cover our bases, we're going to go ahead and jump on the bandwagon early. With this plan, meat is the center of all evil in the universe. Eat bread, and lots of it.

The Midway High Barb Diet
Nothing but repeated viewings of “Yentl” and “What's new, Pussycat” every night. Guaranteed to kill any appetite. Side effects include nausea, dizziness, and a marked, lifetime aversion to the song “Evergreen”.

The Euro-Diet
In this diet, you are only allowed to eat foods that are packaged for consumption outside the United States. At a McDonald's in Germany, a large drink is only 24 ounces, if you can believe it and there's no ice besides, and don't even get us started on the refrigerators in England that can store two plums and an ice cube if you pack it right. This is basically a starvation diet.

The Phillip Morris Weight Loss, Coordination, and Mental Stimulant Herbal Treatment -- A “new you” power solution for a better life and a slimmer body
Using our patented “slim sticks” which deliver a powerful appetite suppressant via an all-natural plant material, you'll be eating less and feeling great in no time! When heated, these compact and portable diet aids create a mild, rich vapor which, when inhaled, can actually cut down on food cravings and increase aerobic fitness (in terms of accelerated heart rate). 20 to a pack. May require ID to purchase.

The Midway's Patented Exclusive Bank Loan Body Maintenance System
This is really a “last resort” treatment, but it involves eating less and engaging in any form of daily exercise. In other words, if you're the type of person with enough discipline to do it this way, you probably don't have to lose weight to begin with, but hey, it's worth a try.

*if you lose one, two, or even three limbs in an industrial accident while on one of our diet plans

Mark, get back to your manly brotherhood thread...really now...

BTW Sisters, I made a new and tasty tortilla soup tonight. PM me if you are interested in the recipe. Soups fill you up without too many calories or fat grams.

I've been so busy that I am lucky to post on the fools thread (no not the one for the guys!!LOL). with that said--haven't been able to check this one out lately.
Anyway--I pulled my treadmill out of the closet and last week I actually did 4 days of walking/jogging for 30 mins. I am going to build up to at least 4 days of 45 mins. but 30 is good for now--trying to acclimate myself!! On the days I didn't do it--I took my daughter for about a one hour normal walk--more to just get outside.
Now if I could just watch the food intake---although I come from a family that REALLY likes to eat. We always print up the cruise menus and actually have more fun picking out what we want from each meal as opposed to picking out excursions!!! I love food.

Barbara: Thank you for your kind words. My little darling has been a bit much lately. Everyone tells me to wait until she is 3, things will get better. She has red hair and lives up to it every day. She is stubborn and has a temper.

I really do need to lose 30 pounds. My GYN yells at me everytime I go in.

I planned the next 2 weeks of meals. I bought a diet cook book the other day and includes all the info so I can calculate points. There are some tasty looking recipes.

At least today seems a bit better. I will actaully do my treadmill today. I never got to it yesterday.

Oh, how I wished we lived where it was warm so we could go outside and walk. I am so tired of snow and cold and clouds!
