There was no way to get back on schedule for today. It was already past lunchtime and I had wanted to go to the 50s Prime Time Café at MGM. But we were still at AK and had planned to go back to the Poly. So I quietly put the Worksheet away and said Hakuna Matata No worries. After all it was only day 2 and there would be plenty of time to fit everything in I had wanted to do. (Yeah right on the flight home I kept thinking to myself we missed several things I had wanted to try Oh well its a great excuse to start planning a return trip.)
We finished up AK with some more shopping DM found the Disney Collectibles store and 30 minutes later she was shipping home a Lion King figurine to go in the Curio cabinet that is already over filled with Lion King collectibles. The overcrowding is really mine and Dudes fault. A couple of Christmases ago we got hooked on E-bay and bought one of everything that had anything to do with Lion King. Gotta love E-bay!!
We headed back to Poly for a while. The sun was shining and DH and I spent some quality hammock time. Today was probably the best day of weather we had the whole week.
Off to MGM where I made the first mistake of the trip. Driving to MGM. The reason we were heading to MGM was that this was the last night for Fantasmic. It was going to be closed for the entire rest of the week and reopening after we had left. Now being Disneyland veterans we have each seen this show at least 10 times, but have never seen it at WDW with its own amphitheater. AT DL you have to stake out the good seats 2 hours in advance, try not to get stepped on, pushed around, or otherwise manhandled as you sit ON THE GROUND waiting for the show to start. Its not a pretty picture. So I really wanted to see it here. So back to my mistake. We had PSs for Ohanas at 8:30pm and I was afraid that we would be late if we waited for a bus after the show. Well upon arriving at MGM we parked quite a ways away from the entrance and we waited for the tram. We waited, and waited, and waited. You get the idea. Could have walked faster from the POLY.
But we have all been there. The fine line between having already spent so much time waiting for something that there was no way you were going to give in and walk now. No, that would be giving up in defeat. So instead we wait for the worlds slowest tram driver to finally make his way to the stop. Approximate time from car to entrance 20 minutes. Approximate walking time 5 minutes. Should have taken the bus. Chalk that one up as a learning experience.
As we are driving through the parking lot we are starting to notice a trend here at WDW. OK, less of a trend and more of an in your face, blatant promotion of the Magical Gathering program. This is our 3rd park and we have probably seen 500 banners, flags, posters, etc. adorning everything from billboards, to lampposts, to structure support beams reminding you to have a Magical Gathering. Guess they wanted to remind you in case you werent having such a Magical Gathering.
Hey you over there yelling at your kid and threatening to ruin everyones vacation and take them home. Be sure to have a Magical Gathering.
Or
You over there ramming that double wide stroller in to the back of people legs and not saying sorry. Have a Magical Gathering (Flip side) You over there cutting off the people trying to navigate their stroller around you because you think you have the right of way. Have a Magical Gathering, OK
Or
You in the Electric Scooter. Dont be so impatient theres only so much space here. Remember to have a Magical Gathering and hey by the way Does that thing have a Hemi?
You get the idea.
Once inside MGM, I am dragging DH to Tower of Terror. I cannot wait for him to ride this. TOT is opening at DL later next month but I wanted him to have ridden the original first!! The new TOT 4 ride sequence is AMAZING. And no lap bars. We rode at least 5 times during the week and each and every ride was completely different. We were also actively searching out the Hidden Mickeys in this ride. I had bought Dude the Hidden Mickey book last year in anticipation of the trip. We used it that morning at AK to find the HMs in Dinosaur and Kilimanjaro Safaris. We read through it waiting in line next for RNR. This book is very cool, I highly recommend it. And I hope whoever found Dudes copy he lost somewhere between RNR and Fantasmic! got more use out of it than we did. Luckily I bought a copy for myself and will bring it on the next trip!!
As we left RNR we saw that there was already a line forming and heading into Fantasmic. So DHs paranoia of not getting the perfect seat for any event started to get the best of him. I could see it coming and there was no stopping it. He turned to me and said,
Get me some food Ill go save the seats. And he was gone in a flash sprinting up the hill toward the theater. I swear there was a cloud of smoke left swirling around my feet from the burning soles of his shoes. DH always has to have the perfect seats, no matter the wait. So I turned to DM and Dude and said,
I guess hes saving seats. We had enough time to ride another ride if you ask me, but no one did.
So I grabbed some Pizza and headed toward the theater. My goodness that is a long walk!! Isnt the car parked somewhere around here?
The theater was nearly half full and I figured that it would take me a while to figure out where in the heck DH was. But thats when I remembered what he was wearing. A bright orange Tigger Hockey jersey. I spotted him immediately. In the front row a little left of center with no one around him. They were still seating people to the right of this section. As I got to him I asked,
How did you get these seats?
DH: Its me. Youd expect anything less
ME: No really how did you get these seats?
DH: The CM was a blonde
ME: Give it a rest. How did you get the seats?
DH: Youre talking to a guy who once hailed a cab at 3am in a town not known for cabs because you had dropped me off at the wrong location for the ski trip. Yes folks, my DH is always lucky at stuff like this. He was going on a ski trip with a local radio station and after I mixed up Highway 87 with Highway 85 he was nearly 1 hour late. So as soon as I spotted a huge tour bus I quickly dropped him off and went on my merry way. Problem was this was a different radio station going to a different ski resort (What are the chances we live 4 freaking hours away from any snow!!) So DH had to walk with his gear to the point that was 2 miles away. When all of a sudden a taxi appeared out of nowhere as if by magic. DH never lets me forget this story.
ME: OK, whatever. Nice seats.
Dude and DM spotted the orange-clad Panda right away too and complimented him on scoring the seats. We waited another 30 minutes or so doing the wave and people watching.
Then the show started and after about 3 minutes I realized how Rico Suave over there scored the seats
