SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

We are thinking of staying at SOG this December for a quick 5 day trip, I haven't stayed at SOG in awhile, but I noticed while I was at Disney world last week staying at the BC I never saw a bus drop off for SOG at DTD. With all the construction, we'd much rather bus to DTD than getting our car out, but can anyone tell me where SOG drops off at DTD? Last time I stayed at SOG they dropped off out pretty far off in the parking lot at DTD and you had to term across the packing lot and outside of some of the shops to get to an entrance and it was a giant hassle.

I understand there is a breakfast buffet, anyone know the price range.

Just booked four night stay at SOG first time. Actually stayed there once early 90s when it was The Disney Inn.
Excited

Thanks

We just got back from Shades of Green this weekend. The buffet cost was $11.95 for adults and $5.95 for children and according to their menu they have ala carte items, but we upgraded to the Sunrise Package and it only cost us $10.50 more per night for 3 adults to get the free breakfast package added. We were there in prime time so our room was full price so you may want to weigh the cost. They also have great breakfast items at the little stand in the lobby and at the snack bar near the bus. Here is a link to their menu. http://www.shadesofgreen.org/GG_BreakfastMenu.pdf

The SOG bus drops off and picks up from the parking lot straight out from the Lego Store.
Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon: Once per hour
Leaves Shades of Green on the half hour (starting at 0830)
Leaves Typhoon Lagoon at 10 till the hour (Space #9 from 0950)
Leaves Downtown Disney on the hour (at the top of lot E by the burnt orange building)

Hello everyone...
I was wondering if anyone knew how late the Px is open is the lobby? We are arriving in the evening and wanted to pick up some things. We usually arrive in the morning but I had to do afternoon flights this time since planning to leave right after last possible final exam for my college kiddos.
Thank you!

Just booked 6 nights in January during MLK week under the Veteran DD 214 rate. We have 14 previous trips under our belts, all at Disney resorts. I never knew about the Salute to Veterans program before. I have been out for 20 years now after doing 6 years in the Navy. We are going to buy our park tickets direct from Disney using Disney Rewards dollars earned on Disney Chase Visa. This looks like it will end up being much cheaper than our previous trips. Where can we add the SOG meal plans? Is it done in advance or can I add at check in? How is the crib that SOG provides in the room, is it a pack N play?

At one time Shades of Green used to have a dinner buffet once or twice a month that featured prime rib, some kind of seafood, etc. I can't find any reference to this on the SOG website. Did they discontinue it?

They rotate the buffet menu. I think they still have the prime rib every Friday, not sure about the seafood though. I recall seeing fried shrimp, and perhaps white fish the last time we were there, but I have no idea what day it was.

If you do the SOG meal plan all your meals have to be eaten at SOG. It's not like Disney's meal plan at all. We tried it one year and felt like we spent more time on buses going back and forth to meals then we spent doing anything else that year. That and the food isn't that great at SOG, your options are really limited.

SOG emailed me back on the meal plan question. I asked to add the Sunrise package to my reservation as a Veteran in January.

"Please be advised Veterans with their Honorable Discharge DD214 are not eligible for the Shades of Green packages or specials."

Just wanted to say that WE HAD A GREAT SPLIT STAY AT SOG. We stayed two nights, then 5 at Old Key West followed by 2 at SOG. We have not stayed there in 2 years. The resort is sooooooo clean. They have always kept SOG clean, but I was so impressed this trip. We always request the Palm Bldg. and got it both times. I love the newly renovated Exchange and the Starbucks in the lobby. My husband got wings one night at Evergreen's and said they were not that great. The kids and I went back to HS and he decided to stay at SOG that evening. That was the only meal purchased at SOG. We walked to Poly once and used the bus a couple of times. We had our van so we drove to the parks except forMK.

Just wanted to say "ANOTHER GREAT STAY". :thumbsup2

Thanks! Will put in the Palm building request! My son lives on Starbucks so he will be a happy camper :)

Can't wait to head there ourselves. We have FIVE MORE WEEKS!! :cool1: Still haven't had luck with my in-laws reservation so looks like they will have to do a split stay in two different rooms for now. That's ok since we'll be in Walt Disney World! Food and Wine and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! :) :)

Years ago when we first began visiting Disney every year ( sometimes twice ) we stayed at the Disney resorts, and always spent at least two nights at SOG during those visits. We have watched it change over the years and loved it. Now that we travel by ourselves (all kids are grown) we much prefer Shades for our visits. This year we will be vacationing from Sept 21st until October 5th! Last year I noticed that the '50's Ice Cream Parlour' had closed and the ice cream stand was just outside the lobby area. Just wondering if it was back in its original spot near the ticket area or if that has been closed for good?

The Starbucks has the ice cream now. I don't believe the parlor is there anymore.
