SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Thread

Hello, I know SOG offers a shuttle to Universal but does anyone know how much it would cost to take a taxi there? Thank you!

Thanks guys!

I was pretty sure YC would not transport luggage for us, but that would have been perfect :goodvibes.

I guess I'm asking if the kids and I can head to a park (likely waterpark or Disney Quest) the morning we check out of YC while DH takes a taxi to SOG to check in there? Then he would meet us at the parks, and we would have our room ready later in the afternoon/evening? Does that make sense?

This is from the SOG website:

Universal Studios - Shuttle transportation is available from Shades of Green to Universal Orlando Resort for a nominal round trip fee of $ 10.00 per adult and $ 5.00 per child. Under 4 is free. Advanced reservations are required

Who is the service member, you or DH? You don't need to all be present at check in, just the service member. So if it is DH, then your scenario would work fine. Just send him to do the check in.

I've actually checked in many times without DH, and never had a problem! Doesn't relate to this question, but just want to throw it out there in case anyone else is worried! I have my dependent ID and have never had a problem checking in. Thank goodness, since he's rarely able to make the whole trip (if at all) with us!

Our last trip was the same way--DH made it for the last 4 days of our 12 day trip. We didn't stay at SOG that trip, but I did visit twice to pick up tickets for Disney and Universal, so I wouldn't think checking in would be different with my ID.

So looking at taxi for check in day, and likely renting a car when we move to Uni. for our last few days. Anyone rented onsite at SOG? I remember the rental car desk in the lobby. Or is it cheaper to go to CCC to rent? I really miss the days when we were stationed within driving distance :sad2:

Stinks when they can't make the whole thing! One trip he was denied leave because they had something big coming up - and then the government shut down happened, so he was just stuck home alone.

We haven't rented from that desk, but I've priced it and its been reasonable. We just ended up getting one at the airport for the whole trip, but Alamo seems reasonable wherever you pick up! There is also a branch at the Dolphin (or Swan?) if you want to compare prices!

I just called to request the palm wing for our upcoming trip and they asked me if I wanted to add the breakfast buffet to our reservation for $10 a night. Since there are are 3 of us it sounded like a good deal. Has anyone had this package, if so was it worth it?

You won't go away hungry from the breakfast buffet. It has a pretty good variety of your breakfast basics, and I doubt you could get that amount of food for $3.33 per person anywhere else on or off property. We did a Sunrise package several years ago which included the daily breakfast buffet. DH has to have "real" food (bacon, sausage, eggs, etc.) before hitting the parks, so it was worth it to us. :thumbsup2

Wow...so I just checked to see if SOG had any openings for our upcoming September trip, since I had to book two different reservations for my in-laws for a room for them and now they are showing NO availability for the the 3 nights leading up to the weekend we are going. Glad I at least was able to book them a room, even if it is TWO rooms. Wonder how crowded it will be during that time? :confused3 Is their Oktoberfest a popular event? :confused3 That's going on for the weekend. :thumbsup2

When I stayed at Shades last May for a solo trip it was pretty quiet. I am thinking that won't be the case this time around, but that's okay for us. :)

I guess I'll check again closer to the 30-day cancellation window. Maybe a few rooms will open up around that time? :confused3

We were there a couple times when it was Oktoberfest and didn't notice any difference with the crowds. But, then they held it out in a tent and now by the looks of the photos it's right on the entrance drive which would be more noticeable.

I am pretty sure that Disney WILL NOT transfer the luggage from a Disney owned resort. We had to taxi over to CSR years ago when we did a split stay...SOG first. You should probably call about that but I am pretty sure the answer will be that they don't. You could have YC store it for you then you can catch a taxi over later in the day to SOG.

So, while it is not standard for "Disney" to transfer your bags to another resort, all the Deluxe resorts have a car or two on site for "convenience rides" for guest. Many times while staying at SOG, we have been offered these cars for rides back after dinner from BC, YC and GF. Perhaps if you ask the valet very nicely, they would be happy to give you and your bags a ride to SOG. And of course, a nice tip would surely be appreciated. ;)

First weekend of F&W at Epcot. Probably the busiest weekend of Epcot all year. Avoid Epcot like the plague Th-Sunday!

In the past I tried (once) to do a room request (by phone) and it was a miserable failure. How and when do you make your room requests and how successful are they. Do you ask for a specific room, or more vague (floor, building, are, etc)

Actually the F&W begins Sept 19th this year, so technically the first weekend would be Sept. 20-21st. We plan to do EPCOT on Thursday Sept. 25th for F&W and pretty much avoid EPCOT again until Monday. :)

So I will let you know how it goes. I have already booked two different reservations. One is for Wed and Thur night in a 2Q with ADA Compliant Restroom. Fri-Sun night they are booked in a regular 2Q room. When I called I just requested if a regular 2Q room becomes available for Wed-Thu night I'd like to be on a waitlist for it. I have no idea if it will happen. At this point, SOG is showing no availability Wed, Thu or Fri night. So I'm just happy they have rooms for all five nights, even if they have to move rooms from an ADA Compliant to non, since they don't need ADA Compliant. :)

I'll check again when we are within the 30-day cancellation window to see if something opens up but at this point I don't see a need to keep checking.

That is great to know :thumbsup2 . We've taken a taxi back to our resort after dinner out, and we had no problem as there was a line of taxis outside of BWI to choose from. It was pretty reasonably priced to go from BWI to OKW. We rode the bus (and transferred at DTD) the other direction. Took us almost 90 min. to get to dinner, though.:headache:

DH and I are doing F&W festival and staying at Shades. We are doing one of the After-House Epcot nights (ending 1 hour after the park closes).

How late do the buses run from Epcot back to SOG? How late do they run from TTC? Last time we were there we only rode the bus and didn't stay until closing.
