~ Sew Sweet 16 ~I’m packing your angry eyes just in case~Aug 2014~ BFF' bag 8/20!!!!

I've decided to share the dress I made for Victoria last fall.

The story goes like this... While we were in WDW last year, my Victoria met Erin's little Victoria and all 3 girls became fast friends... Well, my Victoria fell in love with little Victoria's dress and begged for one of her own

So, I talked to Erin about it (because it's proper etiquitte in the sewing world to get permission from the original designer if you copy one of their designs)... So Erin gave me permission, but told me that Victoria's dress was based off of someone else's design in the Disboutiquer thread. I vaguely remembered the dress she was referring to... So I searched through thread after thread from the Disboutiquers (trust me, this is a LONG process)... And I couldn't find the dress. Finally - I was going through the Project Runway threads, and there it was. I wanted to link to the original dress - but the photos have since been removed. So, I will just give credit to the original maker - who is Colleen here on the Dis. And I will give credit to Erin as well. This dress is totally THEIR ideas and not mine... I did very little different, other than changing the color of the trim. :thumbsup2

As for the dress itself. I am NOT a dress maker - seriously - I am a bag maker. Big difference! Then you add the fact that I had to accomodate for a bust... And not to mention - I decided that I must line it for the August heat, because otherwise you could see right through the top... For a NOT dressmaker to have to alter a dress like that and fully line the top - well, it was a crap shoot really. And almost resulted in V not wearing the dress because she didn't like how it fit... Thankfully, I was able to fix it last week and she loves it now. ::yes::

Personally -I love it! It was a fun dress to make... She plans to carry her Goofy bag with it and wear her Goofy ears from Jennifer. However, I am not sure which park she is wearing it to?

So, here ya go...

Ok all... Yesterday wasy TRULY NUTS!!!!!!!!!! Buuuuuuutttt... Wait for it.... I finally finished all of my back log of stuff to do!!! :woohoo: Carry-on bag... Done! Robyn's applique... Done! Olivia's applique... Done! Victoria's applique... Done! 'Ohaha bag... Done! Done! Done!!!!! It was an AWESOME working day for me (and Victoria with the 'Ohana bag)! :woohoo: Soooo... I will have pictures of all of the above for you all in the coming days. I am very excited!
I am truly impressed. That must be a huge relief to get all that done, including the dreaded Ohana bag. I can't wait to see the pictures. :)
As for next week... If I can get BFF and Olivia's bags cut out this weekend - I may be letting BFF off the hook next week... We'll see. See... I have control issues, and it really bothers me to have someone helping me with "my" bags. So, if I can get them done myself - I will... And I am going to try. popcorn:: D~
I wouldn't be able to work with someone in my sewing room. It would take me twice as long to do anything and my perfectionism would get in the way. Both of us would go crazy. :scared:

I've decided to share the dress I made for Victoria last fall. D~
Darling dress! You did a nice job fitting the bodice. Darts and a smooth neckline in a lined dress are not easy to do. I used to make clothes back in the days when women's clothes had lots of darts and facings. Today's stretchy fabrics have eliminated those from most clothing. But a well tailored outfit still looks best with a few darts. :)

I was inspired to go shopping for a summer dress for our Sept trip after seeing your cute dress. I hate to shop so this was a total victory for me. I ended up with a long, tiered skirt which I will wear with a sleeveless top. I plan to wear it at night while enjoying the food and Wine Festival in the World Showcase. It will be nice to be a little dressed up for it. :)

The dress is amazing! Congrats on making so much progress. I'm making a little here. Slow and steady.

Dd finished her performance with the pittsburgh opera theater. She just had her auditions for Cinderella kids the musical. She got the fairy godmother! Super excited. It will be a fun busy 2 weeks.

I also found our that my rotator cuff is torn. So.... Now we did a little test to see is surgery would work. I go back in 2 weeks. I asked if I could postpone the surgery until after disney. It's only a 2.5 week difference so he said ok!

Have a good day at target!

Amazing job on V's dress!! I agree with the person above me - I would have just made a skirt because I have a terrible time fitting dresses to my figure too.

See you are sooo much better than me! I would have just made it a skirt!

Nini

I wouldn't of even done that. Way to much for me.

Okay D you rock my friend. SO happy the Shred is easier for you.

Have fun at Target and I hear you on control issues.

WOW!! That is the CUTEST DRESS EVER!!!

Love your new maxi dress too.

You and the girls are going to be the cutest Disney visitors that week. I know you'll be having a blast wearing them and I can just imagine the fun interactions you will have with the characters and other guests.

You are amazingly talented!!! :thumbsup2

Sorry to hijack. I had my rotator cuff surgery done just a few weeks before my daughters wedding. While it was not fun it was WONDERFUL to be rid of the pain. Good luck!

And I agree have the surgery after Disney.

That is such a cute dress. Glad you were able to make it work and that she is happy with it.

Wow, you got tons done. :worship:

Sorry I haven't posted in a few - been under the weather but doing better now! there are so many things to comment on that I'm sure I'll forget some so I apologize in advance!

I'm so happy the spark plugs weren't as much as you were expecting! :yay: That never happens!

I LOVE the blue Minnie bag. I never would have thought of using that blue color with Minnie but it totally works!

Cute pictures of BFF, all the girls and you!

I LOVE the Kohl's dress on you. It looks fantastic!

I never would know you weren't a dressmaker by looking at that darling dress! Fitting a bust is HARD! You did a phenomenal job!:woohoo: I just love it!

Congrats on getting so many things done :worship: I think I sew pretty fast but you put me to shame!

Love that dress, but I agree - I'd have probably just done a skirt too.

Can't wait to see the rest - especially the Cursed Bag of Ohana.

:thumbsup2
