~ Sew Sweet 16 ~I’m packing your angry eyes just in case~Aug 2014~ BFF' bag 8/20!!!!

:lovestru

Thanks Mo!

See you are sooo much better than me! I would have just made it a skirt!

Nini

I really wanted to make a skirt, but V wouldn't let me - she insisted on a dress. Sigh. And she insisted on this particular pattern... And she insisted on WHITE! Yah - this dress was a battle from the beginning - and I lost. LOL

I am truly impressed. That must be a huge relief to get all that done, including the dreaded Ohana bag. I can't wait to see the pictures. I wouldn't be able to work with someone in my sewing room. It would take me twice as long to do anything and my perfectionism would get in the way. Both of us would go crazy.

It is such a relief! Trust me. And yah - having someone in my space will really bother me, I already know that I will have to set my machine up in the hallway for her, because there is no way I can have another person in my sewing room - aside from it being small, it's MY space. LOL

Darling dress! You did a nice job fitting the bodice. Darts and a smooth neckline in a lined dress are not easy to do. I used to make clothes back in the days when women's clothes had lots of darts and facings. Today's stretchy fabrics have eliminated those from most clothing. But a well tailored outfit still looks best with a few darts.

Thank you - I still see a few mistakes, but overall, I am happy with how it turned out. It wasn't an easy project for me, and one that I really stumbled through from beginning to end... The invisible zipper in the back was the easy part. LOL NOw that the dress is done, I really wish I would have added another panel of each character/made the skirt portion more of a circle skirt, I would have liked to have the skirt fuller. But for a dress she will probably wear once or twice, it will do.

I was inspired to go shopping for a summer dress for our Sept trip after seeing your cute dress. I hate to shop so this was a total victory for me. I ended up with a long, tiered skirt which I will wear with a sleeveless top. I plan to wear it at night while enjoying the food and Wine Festival in the World Showcase. It will be nice to be a little dressed up for it.

Oooh - YAY!!! I would love to see pictures of it... I have a thing for skirts! So, glad I inspired you to go dress shopping - it's so much fun! My problem is now I have all these dresses that I don't wear as often as I should... I should wear one of my skirts today. :upsidedow

The dress is amazing! Congrats on making so much progress. I'm making a little here. Slow and steady.

Dd finished her performance with the pittsburgh opera theater. She just had her auditions for Cinderella kids the musical. She got the fairy godmother! Super excited. It will be a fun busy 2 weeks.

I also found our that my rotator cuff is torn. So.... Now we did a little test to see is surgery would work. I go back in 2 weeks. I asked if I could postpone the surgery until after disney. It's only a 2.5 week difference so he said ok!

Have a good day at target!

Thank you!

I am glad to hear you are making progress too!

Congratulations to dd - that is AWESOME!!! I bet she is excited! It's going to be a crazy few weeks for you, for sure!

Yikes! I sure hope you are feeling better soon.

That dress is so cute.

Thanks!!! I am very happy with it overall.

Amazing job on V's dress!! I agree with the person above me - I would have just made a skirt because I have a terrible time fitting dresses to my figure too.

Thanks! LOL - trust me - I wanted to make a skirt, but V wouldn't let me. She said it HAD to be a dress. Here's to making it through new territory. Cheers. LOL

I wouldn't of even done that. Way to much for me.

Okay D you rock my friend. SO happy the Shred is easier for you.

Have fun at Target and I hear you on control issues.

LOL... Well, I made the dress last fall right after we returned from our August trip - so I still had "oodles" of time to do it... BUt then I left it sit for months, n' months, n' months.. Thankfully it was mostly done, or I never would have finished it.

Thanks! I am very happy it's easier on me. Today is level 2 - which IMO is the hardest level, LOTS of plank work... But all of the levels are easier - which is good. Seriously though - I am not shrinking as much as I wanted to these last few weeks before our trip... Oh well - I will go and have fun, and who cares if I have a muffin top, right? LOL

Thanks!

WOW!! That is the CUTEST DRESS EVER!!!

Love your new maxi dress too.

You and the girls are going to be the cutest Disney visitors that week. I know you'll be having a blast wearing them and I can just imagine the fun interactions you will have with the characters and other guests.

You are amazingly talented!!! :thumbsup2

Liz in NH (Lucky #18 :-) )

Thanks Liz! I do love it! And I love my new maxi dress - I just wish it matched my 'Ohana bag. Sigh... Oh well.

Thanks! We will have so much fun wearing them.

Congrats on a great day yesterday!!!! I am sure that relieves a lot of pressure for you! AWESOME dress!!!!! Cannot wait to see pictures of V in the finished ensemble!

Thanks! Yes, it is a huge relief of pressure... Now if I can get everything else done - I will feel so much better!

Thanks! I love the dress too - I am happy how it turned out, it's not perfect, but it's cute, so I am glad for that. Hopefully the cuteness will distract from all of the mistakes. :laundy:

Sorry to hijack. I had my rotator cuff surgery done just a few weeks before my daughters wedding. While it was not fun it was WONDERFUL to be rid of the pain. Good luck!

And I agree have the surgery after Disney.

:thumbsup2

I LOVE that dress!

THanks Ruth! And hello - its great to see you, it's been a while!

Dress is adorable!! How clever!

Glad you got a lot done off your list!!

Thanks Terri! Me too - it's such a relief!

That is such a cute dress. Glad you were able to make it work and that she is happy with it.

Wow, you got tons done.

Hi Shannon!!! How was your trip? I saw on FB that you all made it home! I hope it was wonderful!

Thanks! I am happy with it overall.

That dress is darling!! I love it!

Thank you!

Sorry I haven't posted in a few - been under the weather but doing better now! there are so many things to comment on that I'm sure I'll forget some so I apologize in advance!

No worries - always happy to have you here whenever you can make it.

I'm so happy the spark plugs weren't as much as you were expecting! That never happens!

No kidding! We were relieved too.

I LOVE the blue Minnie bag. I never would have thought of using that blue color with Minnie but it totally works!

Thanks - like I said it was just a fluke idea that worked out well. I really love the end result though.

Cute pictures of BFF, all the girls and you!

I LOVE the Kohl's dress on you. It looks fantastic!

Thank you!

I never would know you weren't a dressmaker by looking at that darling dress! Fitting a bust is HARD! You did a phenomenal job! I just love it!

Thanks! I just stumbled through it - like I do with everything and learn as I go.

Congrats on getting so many things don I think I sew pretty fast but you put me to shame!

LOL - I am not sure how fast I sew, but I am definitely dedicated once I get up there. I was just happy to get so much done!

Love that dress, but I agree - I'd have probably just done a skirt too.

Can't wait to see the rest - especially the Cursed Bag of Ohana.

Thanks! LOL - yes, the cursed 'Ohana bag is coming... I am not sure which project I am showing today - I have a few.

That is one very cute dress- and so is the young lady wearing it!

Awww... Thank you Tess! I've missed you - I hope all is well!

Love the dress!!! You did an amazing job!!!! Late, but following lol

Welcome! Thanks so much! Very happy to have you here!

WOW!! I love how the dress turned out! You did an awesome job!

That's amazing you got everything you wanted to done. Can't wait to see pictures of everything.

Thanks Sandra! I am posting another project today... Just not sure which one?

**********************************************************

Yesterday was a Target day - only one more before our trip! Woohoo!

So, I came home to BFF inviting my girls to her house for the night. She is having her 40th birthday party there on Saturday, Olivia is at summer camp, and she needed help getting her house ready...

BFF came for dinner, then took the girls home with her. And Josh & I had a night to ourselves. It was very nice.

Today, I get to start on V's trip bag - I am very excited to get started on it... With any luck, since I have the applique ready - I hope to get far enough that I can start stitching it today. That would be SOOOO nice!

I have to pick Alli up from work at 2pm, then take her for a hair cut - so that will cut a little into my work day. I may go up to my sewing room again after dinner. I'll see how ambitious I am?

My aunt has been posting pictures like crazy of my Dad and his trip to Washington - so I thought I would share a few of them here. He is having a good time. He leaves to come home on the train on Tuesday - he has his own roomette for the entire trip. I've always thought it would be fun to see the country by train, so I hope enjoys the journey home. I am very nervous for his return trip, very, very nervous.

My Dad and his older brother Gary:

So, my dad is having a great time, I think this has been an amazing trip for him. I am so glad we were able to make it happen! ::yes::

Finally - I am leaving you with the latest picture of my "guns"... Hehehe... They haven't changed much since the last one I took - but I like them anyways. They are gettin' there.

IMG_834091469867279.jpeg

ETA: I forgot to post about the bad dream I had last night... I woke up this morning and I was soooo upset! We got to Disney and Victoria didn't pack any of her clothes! Shoes and lots of them, yes. Swimsuits, yes. Headbands, yes. Socks & underwear, yes. But all these dresses and outfits - not a one... She had NOTHING to wear. I was soooo mad! So, guess who will be double checking her packing job before we leave? LOL

I hope you all have a wonderful day! Prayers and good thoughts go out to all of you! :grouphug:

D~

This is the one we did last week... This was going to be her Villians skirt, but since we couldn't find any matching Villians embroideries that we liked - she changed her theme... I just LOVE how this turned out- so does she! The signatures really POP off of the black... The only bummer is that we couldn't find a skirt in an adult size to fit her, so we had to get her a children's skirt... Thankfully there are shorts under it - but it's still a little too short for my liking. However, if she wouldn't pull it up so darn high (which is the style), it would be a little longer.

I do chuckle a little bit at the huge bright yellow "Belle" signature on her back side.

I will tell you all that the bag I am making coordinates with this skirt - but I am not telling you which princess it is, you are going to have to guess. :scratchin

D~

I adore Vs skirt. Is it a store bought one that you added the autographs too. So so cute.

Live the autograph skirt! What a great idea! I found some Lady and Tramp fabric yesterday and now I need to figure out what to do with it....

V's dress and skirt are so cute. I used to make dresses and skirts for myself and daughter back when people dressed up more. I know how hard fitted clothes can be.
The dress from Kohl's is so cute and looks cool. I try not to shop at Kohl's very much. I find too much that I like.
I haven't been doing much besides working those dreaded midshifts that ruin your day. Sunday we went out looking at cars since the dealership is closed on Sunday. No one bothers you while you're looking. I found two I like but I'm not sure when I can get back there. After that we went to a park and walked around the lake.
I hope you have a great day.
Liz

Love everything you've been making!

So happy your dad is having such an awesome trip!

Hope to update my PTR sometime today. Our last minute trip is coming together :goodvibes

Love the skirt. Our trip was good. Can't believe I have such a short turn-around to get ready for next trip. Marissa leaves for Texas on the 20th and comes back on 27th and then we leave on the 30th!

Funny about double checking her packing. I let Chelsea pack for the "cabin". She did ok, but there were lots of clothes that made no sense at all. Not even for going to a cabin. So, on the last day, her shorts and shirt were the closest thing we could find that kind of matched, but didn't. It was ok though, because Jacob was wearing plaid shorts and a striped shirt...so we were not the fashion poster family.

What an awesome trip for your dad! :goodvibes Love the selfie! :lmao: That train ride home DOES sound like so much fun! Sounds like something else for my own bucket list... :rolleyes1

V's skirt is so cute!!! So, is Ally on board with much dressing up or accessorizing this trip? :confused3

Note to self: D~ is picking Ally up from work today, prepare for food porn picture of a big, beautiful coffee drink. :thumbsup2

I have been lurking on your PTR for a while now, and I must say you are very talented! I absolutely LOVE the autograph skirt, and I am super jealous!!

Love the concept of the Autograph Skirt and agree with you about the Belle signature :rotfl: & the length.:scared:

I would be doing so much better in my sewing room if work wasn't stressing me out. One of the issues from TYoS (last year) has a second step that is now in action...a year later, so there's that.

I'm hoping for this weekend: fully staffed at work & caught up (hopefully) on some housework. Then to Sew!!

-oh and I think the matching princess bag should be Belle, but that's just because of the signature placement. :p

SOOOO happy to know your dad is having a good time! How wonderful that he had the chance to go.

LOVE V's dress. Funny, last year for our trip, I made a dress for DD and I bought a skirt at Kohl's for myself and I did the exact same thing on them with the signatures! Great minds...

Can't wait to see the matching bag!

Your Dad looks like he is having a blast! What a great trip.

I love V's dress and the autograph skirt.....so much fun! I'm surprised Allison wouldn't wear something like the autograph skirt. That is very mellow.

It is getting so close now!!!! Eeeek.....you guys are going to have a blast! I wish Sara was still going to be there, but her time is up this weekend :(

D-love everything you've posted! Love Vs dress-especially Plutos dog tags! I am constantly impressed with your ability to stay focus and produce such huge quantities of stunning and unique projects!:worship: And that same focus on your healthy living has brought such amazing results! What a great trip you will be having!:cool1:

So I am freaking out a bit that I'm not sure I'm in shape enough to handle this trip. Accuweather says it will be 94 tomorrow but feel like 108.:scared1: I'm afraid Joe will be disappointed if I cant keep up with him. I told him I was worried about the heat and he said we would just have do all the AC stuff without lines like CoP and HoP.

We are still hoping to see you at TL.:thumbsup2

I should try to sleep some. In about 4 hours my alarm is set to play Disney Freak.:rotfl:

Joe & I are on the boat waiting to go to the airport. We drove all the way to the tip of a peninsula in one town only to discover an emergency repair to the dock has suspended services there. On the drive out of that town there was a sign about the problem. Why not on the way in???? We made it to the next boat in another town. We should still be ok for our 9:20 flight but probably won't have time to eat. Getting there isn't half the fun. Can't wait to just be there and see the palm trees!

I adore Vs skirt. Is it a store bought one that you added the autographs too. So so cute.

Thanks Chiara... Yes, it's from Old Navy - in the kids section. :thumbsup2

Live the autograph skirt! What a great idea! I found some Lady and Tramp fabric yesterday and now I need to figure out what to do with it....

Thanks! Oooh - that sounds awesome!!! I bet you can find a fun project for it. popcorn::

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVe her skirt!!!!!!! Just LOVE IT!!!

soon now... very very soon!!!

THanks! I know... Starting to get very nervous!

That skirt is so cute.

Thanks!!! We are very happy with it.

V's dress and skirt are so cute. I used to make dresses and skirts for myself and daughter back when people dressed up more. I know how hard fitted clothes can be.

Thanks! Yes - that dress - it's a miracle it turned out. LOL

LOL - I know Kohls is a bad place for me to go too, but there was so much I needed - sadly. I am starting to swim in most of my clothes - which is a good thing, except I don't have anything smaller in my bin, so it's time to buy new. Just trying to not buy too much, because I have no idea how much smaller I will get?

I hate mid-shifts... So hard to get anything done.

Good luck finding a new car... I've learned that I hate car shopping.

Love everything you've been making!

So happy your dad is having such an awesome trip!

Hope to update my PTR sometime today. Our last minute trip is coming together

Thanks Jennifer!

Me too - he is having a lot of fun - I don't think he wants to come home.

I will go look for your update when I am finished here.

Love the skirt. Our trip was good. Can't believe I have such a short turn-around to get ready for next trip. Marissa leaves for Texas on the 20th and comes back on 27th and then we leave on the 30th!

Thanks!!! LOL - yes you do have a short turn-around.... Gosh, I can't believe I miss you by only a few days! Bummer... Maybe next time.

LOL - Yes, I am certainly double checking her packing. She JUST finished doing her laundry from the lake over the 4th... And now she is JUST starting to pack for Disney. And then there's Alli - who refuses to pack until the day before we leave. I swear they are not my children... I've been packed for months! :rolleyes1

I LOVE the skirt! Such a cute idea. And the dress was Beautiful!

Thank you very much! And welcome! Glad to have you here.

LOVE the autograph skirt! Too cool! I am guessing it's going to be a Rapunzel bag!

Thanks Terri... Good guess... You'll have to wait and see... HOpefully the wait isn't too long. popcorn::

What an awesome trip for your dad! Love the selfie! : That train ride home DOES sound like so much fun! Sounds like something else for my own bucket list...

V's skirt is so cute!!! So, is Ally on board with much dressing up or accessorizing this trip?

Yes - he is having a great time, I don't think he wants to come home. I sure hope he enjoys the train ride home though - I think it would be so much fun. IF we decide to go out there next summer again, if I have the time, I would love to go by train.

Thanks... Sadly - no, Alli is not in the mood to dress up. HOwever, one of the ears that Jennifer sent us as a gift - the girls literally faught over... So, who knows? I might be able to get her to wear those?

LOL... I've been good - I am in the final stretch of our trip, and those shorts MUST fit me. It took a lot of willpower to avoid Starbucks yesterday.

I have been lurking on your PTR for a while now, and I must say you are very talented! I absolutely LOVE the autograph skirt, and I am super jealous!!

I know... If there weren't shorts underneeth - the skirt would be a definite no-go. But there are shorts, so I will deal with it.

Oh wow... TYoS... I thought that was over? LOL Good luck - I hope it goes well for you!

Hehehe... We'll see... HOpefully sooner rather than later.

Thanks! Seriously??? I would love to see pictures of how yours turned out!

Me too - LOL.

I Know~!!!! I am starting to get very nervous! I wish Sara was going to be there too... Did she try to stay?

D-love everything you've posted! Love Vs dress-especially Plutos dog tags! I am constantly impressed with your ability to stay focus and produce such huge quantities of stunning and unique projects! I should try to sleep some. In about 4 hours my alarm is set to play Disney Freak.

Thanks Bernadette! I was wondering if anyone would notice the Pluto tags... I ordered them especially for V's dress... I thought they were a fun accessory.

I am very pleased with my progress so far... I am hoping to eek out a little more, so my shorts aren't as "muffin-toppy" - but I just don't think that is going to happen. Oh well, I've worked hard and I need to be happy with where I am at. I will continue on when I get home.

Joe is such a nice and understanding boy - I am sure the two of you will do fine. You will have a blast!

Have a safe trip - and looking forward to seeing you at TL! So happy about that! The girls are too!

**********************************************************

Ok all... You will be very impressed with me... I did a LOT yesterday!

In the morning, I was able to cut out and quilt Victoria's bag. WHOOT!

Then I picked Alli up from work - took her to get a hair cut.

Then, back home to work some more.

Made beer brats for dinner - they were yummy!

Then, back to work again.

I managed to totally COMPLETE Victoria's bag applique! You know what that means? It puts me ONE DAY ahead of schedule! :woohoo:

So, my day today...

Lift weights...

Shower and get ready for the day...

Take my Edge to the dealership to FINALLY get my air done (Loooong story that involved a year + of waiting for an oil change receipt from our old mechanic, so my extended warranty wasn't voided - Grrrr....) Anyways... Taking the Edge in to have that done - I will have a loaner car for the duration. Let's all pray that the warranty covers the part (it should) - otherwise it could be a $2K+ repair.

Coming home to work. I hope to completely finish V's bag today.

Meeting Josh at work with the girls this afternoon to take them (and him) in to have their military IDs done, so they can fly. I could take their passports, but it's just easier to have their Military IDs, because they fit in my wallet.

Then, coming home again to work - if necessary. If I finish V's bag before we go, I won't work tonight. But if I don't - then I'll go up and finish it.

I plan to start Olivia's bag tomorrow. WHOOT! I am VERY excited for the progress I am making. At the rate I am going - I will be looking for another project to make before we leave. LOL

I hope you all have an amazing day today! Stay tuned for pictures of something - not sure what yet. Prayers and good thoughts to all! :grouphug:

D~

I am very happy with how this turned out... It's a great size for a carry-on! And I am so happy I decided to finish it - it is a cute bag, and I can fit a lot of stuff into it.

I always use my Toy Story messenger as my carry-on, but there is one thing that really bothers me about it, and that's the flap closure vs. zippered closure... And when I am runnig around the airport - and it's hectic - I really want the zipper closure. So, now I have it.

The one thing I don't like about the bag - which you can't see in the pictures, is the shape the bag takes on when it's full... I don't really like the shape. Because of the box pleats - it gets very round on the bottom - partially because I have it VERY full at the moment... I am kind of trying to see how much will fit in it - then I think I will redistribute some of it to my backpack. But as a whole - I like it, and I will carry it.

Here's how it looks on me for size...

20140804_111414.jpg

And then the close-up...

IMG_1726.jpg

I did not take any pictures of the back or the inside... The back has an exterior zippered pocket. And the inside is quite roomy... I have magazines in there, sunglasses, books... Tons of stuff... It also has 3 slip in pockets. It's a nice sized bag.

And finally - a picture of the coordinating park bag... See, there are a few differences... Mainly the polka-dot fabric at the top... Honestly, I am not sure which I like better. I kind of like them both. :confused3
