Seven Dwarf Mine Train is WAY over-hyped in my opinion

We love it - there is very little on property that I would wait 40 minutes for, but this is (East Coast) Disney Imagineering at it's finest with how they blended technology and fun. The only one I've witnessed that is better is Radiator Springs Racers. I prefer Splash Mountain - it's my personal favorite - but 40 minutes is pushing it for that ride as well.

we think so too.
we'd never wait in a long line for it and we'll only use a FP+ on it if we have 2 days in MK which lately we haven't but this trip we will.

We love the ride - all the details, we always find something new. Also like the rocking cars. It is a family coaster, not a thrill ride.

BUT I won't wait in a long line for it, we do FP+ or during EMH.

It's a to each their own, there are lots of attractions that folks say you must do and I find them a waste of my time.

We just did it for the first time in Dec., as it was not open yet when we were there in 2013. Loved the ride, especially how fast it takes off and how smooth it is, but agree that it is too short. Really wish the imagineers would have thought of that, but maybe it was purposeful to keep lines moving. We did it with a FP, and wanted to do it again, but would not be willing to wait in the regular line. Since we did not get there early on our 2nd day to do it 1st thing, we were lucky to see a random FP pop up for the afternoon, so rode it once more. We definitely want to ride it next time, but only 1st thing or with a FP, would not wait 70 min.

Agree with a PP about Peter Pan - cannot imagine waiting 60 min. for it. It is a cool ride, but I would be disappointed if I had waited an hour for that. I always tell first timers to do it first thing or get the FP, because there is so much to see, that I wouldn't want them to spend an hr. of their time waiting just for that, compared to something like Splash.

I think for a "little kid ride" it's awesome. It's a family coaster ride designed for the littlest riders - just the fact that LITTLE kids can ride a "real" roller coaster is fantastic (SOOOO much better than that Goofy's coaster thing - there is NO comparison). It is not supposed to be a "thrill ride" and yes, IF I was expecting a "thrill ride" I would be disappointed. But if I was FOUR I would be so stoked to be able to ride a real roller coaster!! We appreciate it for what it is - and I think it's very well done.

Depends on your preferences and your expectations.

I'm excited for the ride (I've yet to go on it.) However, I'm not expecting it to be a rollercoaster or anything.

Thankfully we only waited 40 minutes for this ride. But in my opinion, it wasn't worth it. The ride is probably the shortest ride on property. I was disappointed. I feel like they just threw the ride in to alleviate some of the crowds/lines on other rides.

Anyone else disappointed?
It's not the best coaster as coasters go but I can say one thing for sure, it's not just thrown together. The theming is outstanding.

Overhyped for who?? A thrill roller coaster enthusiast? Sure. For your average child in Fantasyland? Not at all. It's really a matter of expectations and understanding who the audience is for that coaster. It's meant to be a beginner roller coaster with some story elements. It does exactly what it set out to do. I love it. But would I wait 40 minutes on line for it? No. It's a FP ride for me. (Same thing about Pan - I don't get the waits. Love the ride but will only do at rope drop or with a FP (although having just done the new line I'm more likely to try to hit the regular line very early or very late as they did an astounding job with it!

I think if you're looking for thrill, then maybe. I only waited in line once (during a 24-hr party...there were no Fps...might have been a soft opening) and at that point that line extended down the fence along the outside of the attraction. I thought it was worth it. I think it is pretty detailed and the activities in the queue are pretty cute. We FP it now, unless its EMH or Wishes time and the line is shorter.

It's the theming that works well for us and we enjoy it. We knew what to expect when we first rode it when it opened and weren't disappointed. It beat expectations since it some of the best themeing Disney has done in years. We wouldn't wait 40 minutes though.

Especially with how long it took to build, I would've expected something a lot more elaborate like Splash Mtn. 7DMT is still good but disappointing. I think we would only go on it with FP (as we've done so far) or later at night

I love coasters but with neck issues can no longer ride them (most) because of being too jerky. I was so happy when learning of the smoothness of this ride. It didn't bother my neck at all - just great with the gentle swaying. :thumbsup2
Was definitely a smooth ride - that we did love about it!

It's cute, too short and you're right -- the seats are dreadful.
The seats are awful! I totally agree!

Perhaps my expectations were too high. We did not have a fastpass as I only booked our trip about 3 weeks before we left. Therefore, fastpass was impossible. We arrived at rope drop and still waited the 40 minutes. But I figured (since I had been watching the wait times the week prior) that 40 minutes was probably the shortest wait time we would see all week.

I understand that it's a kid coaster/family coaster and from that respect, it's good. Very smooth, fast, not big drops. But I just wished it was longer. My daughter and I looked at each other at the end and said "that's it"? So perhaps I did actually like it, just wished there was more to it. ? LOL.

That I can't disagree with. While what they did do is excellent a ride with more to see visually would have been better. I guess they just didn't have the space. I've never studied the footprint of 7D vs Splash

This first time I rode I was disappointed, but the more I ride it the more it grows on you. You notice more details, get into the song, etc. The first time it just kind of flies by. Also I think it's slower loading than it needs to be. Often an empty train will sit there for a minute before pulling forward to load.

Grandparent here! I absolutely love 7D! I really like the smoothness of the ride and the rocking cars. It's something a grandparent can enjoy with grandkids without killing their back (BTMR). 7D is my second fave ride in MK now, just behind Splash Mountain and it surpassed Big Thunder because it doesn't have the jerky motions BTMR has. 7D wasn't meant to be a thrill ride and it is in the new Fantasyland, so I wasn't expecting anything like Space Mountain. The theming is amazing, imo. I do wish the ride was longer and I really don't like those seats, but 7D is a new favorite for sure. When the Hi Ho song starts, I get choked up every time. Love the witch too and the view inside the cottage.

Some here posted how they always thought that cottage should have been made a M&G. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to have the back side of the M&G visible from the train as it goes in to the station? Seeing live Snow White and some of the Dwarfs as you exit the ride. The animitronics are great but real would have been even better.

I think it is an enjoyable ride that is themed wonderfully. With that being said, having ridden more than once, I wouldn't seek it out if it had any wait over 20 minutes.

This is exactly how we feel as well. We love it for all that it is, especially because we like tamer coasters like that - no big drops for either of us (though I personally love going upside down!). That said, we only do it if we have a FP or stumble upon a 20 minute or less wait. I wouldn't say it's necessarily over-hyped because it really is themed fantastically and the ride is very smooth, but I think rather the relative newness of it is what makes the waits outrageous and then when you finally experience it and (possibly) discover it's shorter than you thought, it may make that excitement seem over the top in retrospect.

Only disappointed in the length. The ride itself is fun and oh-so-smooth! The queue is nice, also. I like riding it in the day and the night-very different experiences. I try to get FP's for both.

I actually think it is a very innovative ride being a mixture of roller coaster and dark ride. I don't think "over-hyped" is the right word personally. I do think the stand by line is ridiculously long and I personally would not wait more than maybe 20 minutes for it. And I do think it is far too short in duration as well, especially considering the crazy wait times. But overall I think it is an enjoyable, fun, family oriented ride.

Edit: reading through some previous posts I came upon several mentions about how awful the seats are and I agree. What is up with those seats? They are not comfortable at all.
