Seriously is HS now relegated to a half day park?

I am asking not to stir any pot but to help me plan our trip in March. Honest and unbiased opinions are appreciated. Also if I have ruffled any feathers please unruffle as I had no intention to do so.

If you see some of the shows, then definitely not. You can fill a day if you see them all.

If you are a ride only person, then you can easily do all the rides before lunch with rope drop arrival and FP+. On the other hand they have quite a few good shows to enjoy and a little something for everyone.

Not for us! While I agree that it is badly in need of the updating it looks like it will be getting, we still have a full day planned to spend there on our upcoming trip and will still not see everything we would like to because we enjoy the shows and it's not possible for us to hit all of them.

HS is my favorite park. I love the Hollywood heyday theme of it, but unless you really enjoy the shows and have an ADR in the park, it probably is easily done in a half day or at best, 2/3 of a day. We usually sleep in and go a bit later, take our time doing everything, do a couple of our favorites twice, have dinner and then maybe head to downtown Disney.

We have seen the shows so often that we aren't really interested any more. The few rides we like take us less than half a day so we decided to skip DHS. I love some things there so it's kind of sad but it makes the most sense for us.

I agree that if you've seen the shows more than a few times or just aren't interested in them, it could absolutely be a half day park. I could never skip it, though, as I love the few rides that are there.

For me, it would be a non-day, if I could get away with it. DH still loves it, but I'm not a fan. I'm not technically a huge fan of AK either, but I can do a full day there, or at least 3/4 of one plus a TS at either Rainforest or Boma. So I can make shorter park trips stretch, moderately. And I can spend days upon days unpacking the intricate corners of the MK and Epcot, so it's not like I have a seen-it-all attitude. But HS... eh. It doesn't do it for me. It might have to do with our age limitations.

Movie Ride is interesting, but DH refuses to go on it because of the ambush scene. (He's a veteran and it bothered him.) DD(6) and DS(7) enjoyed it.

The Dis Junior dance show is pretty fun for the younger set, but my older kids are a little too old for it. Toddler will likely enjoy it, and that's why we're going there this time.

We saw the Little Mermaid and Beauty shows - older two enjoyed it kind of, DH didn't even bother going in to the Mermaid one, toddler gets fussy and restless. When she was younger she nursed and fell asleep during Beast, so that was OK.

Older kids/DH like Star Wars. I don't like either the franchise nor the actual ride, so I sat that one out after the first time I tried it. Too shakey! Same thing with the Jedi Academy - kids might do that if we get there on time this time.

I did ToT with the older two while DH sat out with the baby. I got way freaked on it, DS didn't like it. DD kind of did, but she wasn't begging to go back. DH doesn't want to bother trying it.

I always wanted to try RnR but I never got a chance to - and I'm pregnant now so I can't again. The kids were too short last time (I think that was the reason we couldn't go).

I know they took out the Indiana Jones show and some of the other shows - we actually almost went to see one of them once, but were warned that we couldn't leave if the toddler started fussing... and we were kind of hungry anyway, so we left.

We did enjoy Mama Melrose (before they changed the menu) and 50's PTC. I love 50's theming! Brown Derby was so-so, I think it might have been an off night that we went but the food quality just wasn't up to what I was expecting for a fancier place. That said, we're not doing too many TS ressies this trip, so it's just going to be QS dining mostly. The QS menus don't appeal to us particularly, so we'll probably head back to our resort or maybe Downtown Disney at some point instead of sticking around.

So to sum up - and this did get kind of long! - I think there are fun things to do there, but they appeal to different demographics. Maybe we just have bad luck with our family make-up in ages, but there are not many things we can all enjoy together. It's fun to just walk around and sight-see, look at the stores, etc., and I'm so bummed we had to postpone our planned trip during the Christmas light season! That would have made it worth it for me. But especially if you're walking around in the summer's sweltering heat between those movie sets, no shadows, etc... it's just not.very.fun.

But I'm going back there with an open mind and going to try very hard to like it more! :cheer2:

We honestly love DHS. It's a different feel that the others, for sure, but we love the change of pace it provides. We've spent a whole day there on the last 2 trips and have another whole day planned for this trip in March. This year, we hope to get in all our favorite rides and can't wait to sit through the Muppets 3D more than once!

Half day here. We enjoy Rnrc (and LOVE the single rider line!), Tot, TSM and St, and then we're pretty much out. None of the food is interesting - although I do think SciFi is cute - and we'd much rather spend the afternoon by the pool after a quick walk to Epcot for lunch.

Honestly, not even a half day. They should be ashamed to charge people what they do to get into that place. It's starting to look like downtown Detroit with all the abandoned buildings..

With some things gone, and others needing updates I can see how DHS isn't appealing to everyone - that said it gave us the opportunity to slow down and explore the shops, watch the street performers, and do the Animation Academy drawing class twice. If you do have a SW fan then Star Tours can be ridden multiple times and have different experiences (think my son rode it 5?6? times last year-had to drag him away). For me-Toy Story would easily be a skippable item-we enjoyed BuzzLight year more at MK. And we do RnR multiple times (love the single rider!)

My kids are also older-and they had been saving their money for the shops - this last trip they really surprised me by how much they wanted to browse in the shops!

I can see where others are coming from... And get that it really depends on your interests... But my current problem is actually fitting everything into only one day at DHS!

With 3 and 6 year old boys, our must do list includes - TSMM, Star Tours (multiple times), Jedi Training, Indiana Jones, Frozen Sing along, Disney Jr. Show, meeting Hiro and Baymax, ToT, RnR, and at least 45 min to shop in Tattooine Traders.

With several different shows on the list AND lunch at Sci-Fi, it's hard to make everything fit!

It is definitely different to different people. We actually skipped Hollywood Studios altogether 4 years ago and then when we went back two years ago we went and loved it. This past year went went 3 full days to Hollywood.

I love the Hollywood heyday theme. We also love walking around the back lot. Then again we go when the Christmas lights are up so that adds to the parks appeal at nighttime.

We do not go on each ride once. We will go on Star Tours several times, Tower of Terror several times as well. I actuality feel like there is a lot to do there.

For us Animal Kingdom is a one day park. That will probably change... :)

We're going for 5 days next month, and only spending a half day at both AK and DHS. I like DHS, I really do, but there is no "there" there anymore. The number of restaurants and shops shouldn't dwarf the number of attractions. It needs a California Adventure level makeover.

I like shows, but that is not why I go to WDW. And with a toddler, one a day is about our max.

Honestly, after going to the Disneyland Resort in California last year, I really notice the lack of attractions at some of the WDW parks. There is no half day parks in Anaheim, and in my opinion, no 1 day parks in Anaheim. We're going back in October and staying on property. And from where we live, WDW is quicker and cheaper to get to than Disneyland. At DLR, I'll miss the restaurants, dining plan, and FastPass+, but we still have so much left we want to do there!

Ak at rope drop leave bout 12 or 1 and then HS at about 4 pm to 10 pm or so (on a hs late night opening) This is my plan. I don't think I want to do enough in both parks to say a full day at each of them.
My family says HS is a half day park
List for HS is
Beauty and the beast show, Frozen sing along, star tours, Osborn lights , movie ride and the other Walt's thing (since that's a must do for my dh) R&r coster (late night after) Fantasmic late one, dinner.

AK- start at my breakfast (hour before park opens), Safari, Lion king, (maybe the raft ride if not to cold) Everest, Dino, and done.

The park I most skip. Taking my adult DS in April 2016 and since he hasn't been to WDW since 2000 we will definitely do all 4 parks. Not a thrill ride person so that cuts down on what to do at DHS.

We found plenty to do when we went last May but I think some things have closed since then plus we went during Star Wars weekend so there were a lot of extra stuff. However I think even with just the basic attractions we would have been able to fill a day. We actually visited the park three times. Once we spent a couple hours (rope drop then a rush to TSM, meeting Buzz and Woody, Star Tours and Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground) then headed to Epcot. The second time we did the Star Wars dinner at H&V followed by Toy Story Mania again. The final time was for Star Wars weekend and we got there before rope drop should have been but after they opened the park and immediately line up to meet Chewbacca, did the Indiana Jones show, Star Wars parade, TSM with FP+, Buzz and Woody again, Backlot Tour, lunch at Sci-Fi, Cars character meet and greet and Disney Jr show). We were there until around 3 pm but could have stayed longer if we hadn't been rushing over to see Jessie in Magic Kingdom. I think it really depends on your party and their interests.

We always plan for a full day at HS. Between the shops, rides, and shows I would be rushed if we only spent a half day. I love RnR! Without kids I ride it back to back, but with my little one in tow that tends to be harder as she cannot ride yet. ToT is not my thing but my youngest (7), oldest (18) and husband love it! We really enjoyed the Indiana Jones and Lights Motors Action shows! My daughter liked Beauty and the Beast, and Fantasmic is awesome! HS gets a bad rap sometimes, and I will admit to it being my least favorite park, but I wouldn't plan a trip without it!
