September Heat....Can you take it?

The heat and humidity was bad this summer, and it's also been bad in late Spring/Summer previous years when we went too and we live in FL

Yeah I''m from the North East too and I don't do well w the heat either. o well! I'll dress appropriately, drink a ton of water and all... I don't care im just happy to be in WDW!!!

It is a good trade off hot for lower crowds. One I'll gladly take!
This is how we feel. Next year we are saying goodbye to our usual week in November, because it just keeps getting more and more crowded. So we are going Sept 3-10th 2016! We know it will be HOT, but the crowds will be great! And we will take lower crowds over the weather any day.

Heading to WDW next weekend for park hopping 9/14 - 9/17. Just got the 1st day forecast and it is consistent with the past few weeks; 90-95F and 10000% humidity. It does look like rain, so maybe the clouds will dampen some of the beating sun.

I live in South Carolina and we deal with the same heat most of the time. I can imagine the shock for anyone north of the Mason-Dixon this time of year. So those of you that go this month, can you beat the heat? Do you think the cloud cover dampens the heat? Fellow Southerners...is it just like "home" for you?

I go about every 4 to 6 weeks just got back 5 days ago and the time before that was 54 days ago I could tell a difference in the temp as it felt cooler to me but I live where it is hotter them disney most of the summer so going to disney is cooler any ways. but I did talk to a few CM who said they thought it was cooling off too

Too far out from my trip to tell yet, but it looks like it's going to still be pretty hot. It's funny, ive done late september before and remember the weather being about 80s, but bearable. We only had 1 really hot day. Accuweather is telling me it's felt like over 100 there for a while and will continue to. Yikes. Oh well, like others said, ill be in my happy place! so its ok!

Us Floridians don't love our 85-95 degree days with 80% humidity, but we keep hydrated and find shade! Also, we dress for the heat. I was at Disney last weekend (Temp in the mid-80s, humidity 70%+, and sunny) and I saw people wearing JEANS. That is what we wear in WINTER down here.

I am a big fan of moisture wicking clothes, light shorts/skirts, and NO JEANS, not even jean shorts.

The low crowd level meant we were not even outside that much, we were on A/C'd rides a lot due to short lines :cool1:
That's what I wear 90% of the year, some sort of dri fit t shirt, usually from a race I've run and in the last couple of years board short surf companies have been coming out with these new board shorts that are meant to be worn in or out of the water, making them really light and cool. That's what I wear pretty much year round, jeans and a light sweater or hoodie is what I wear on the few cool/cold days.

We have high humidity in the St. Louis area, and honestly, dh and I didn't find the humid heat any worse than what we are used to. We enjoyed last September so much, we're going back again this year! The crowds are so low that we walk on to a majority of rides, and it doesn't take long to navigate from place to place, so really...most of the trip is spent in air conditioning anyway!

I'm from the North East and am heading down tomorrow! We went this time last year and yes, it was sunny and hot, but it's the humidity that gets me! We found Frogg Togg's helpful, as well as moisture wicking clothing, and staying ahead of the game with hydration - lots of water and gatorade. On the really oppressive days, we napped or swam in the afternoon and went for EMH at night!

I live in Denver so the humidity is going to be the biggest adjustment! It gets hot here but it is also very dry. We're leaving tomorrow and have Frogg Toggs to use along with a mister fan. Fingers crossed we will make it without passing out! :rotfl: It's supposed to cool off quite a bit here while we're in FL so I'm sure that coming back to Denver fall weather is going to be a very welcome relief!

I'm from warm and dry southern California. Although I knew it was going to be humid, I didn't have a good concept of Orlando weather until the airport double doors opened and a wall of wet, thick, breathtaking heat blanketed every inch of skin. My first thoughts were: "what was Walt thinking when he picked this place?" But as soon as you accept that you'll be sweating and sticky, it's actually okay.

In fact, that swampy heat actually made Animal Kingdom so much more realistic -- as if I were actually trekking through exotic lands. Of course, the first time I made it out to a water park, the weather turned 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Within 30 minutes, the skies had turned dark and stormy, blankets of cold rain poured, the temperature dropped nearly 15 degrees, and people were huddled in the air conditioned shops shivering from the air conditioning.

Orlando definitely has exciting weather!

From the Northeast. I went 2 years ago - was sick the entire time due to the oppressive heat and humidity. The last day there, I was seriously doubting I could even make it to Animal Kingdom. Cold Frogg toggs, misting fans and cooling clothing did not seem to help one bit....needless to say, we're going in December this year!

We were in DW two weeks ago and I know I'll never go back in August. Much too hot. We've been in Aug. before and I don't remember it being this bad. We went last Sept. right after Labor Day and it wasn't that hot and the crowds were low. We walked onto a lot of rides. It was a great time to go. Oh, and I'm from Philly area where it's been really hot this past week but nothing compared to how it was in Dis 2 weeks ago. It was brutal!

Speak for yourself. This Floridian absolutely loves the weather here in Florida in both summer and winter. Humidity doesn't even bother me in the least. I was at Disney last week and I was not paying any attention to what everyone else was wearing, I go for the rides and attractions. I wear shorts and a polo shirt all year long.

Going way back to the OP... maybe the only thing we've proven here is that everyone has their own weather preferences. There's no way to know how you'll tolerate it until you try it :)

I agree with the poster ^. You won't know how you tolerate the heat until you go. We just got back a week ago. I tolerate the heat just fine and would go in Aug/Sept again. One of my daughters is also fine. I found out that my husband and 2nd daughter do not tolerate the heat well at all! They left the parks early a couple of times. We will probably need to go when it's cooler for them. For us, I made sure we had cooling towels, misting fans, lightweight clothing. Our O2 misting fan broke and I ended up buying a Disney one. Money well spent since they replaced it when it started to leak. The key is hydration. DH and DD kept getting dehydrated. You just need a lot more water than you think. Drink constantly and that will help. Do what everyone says - rope drop, take a break in afternoon and go back in evenings. I found evenings quite pleasant and one woman I met on the trip said she only goes to the parks in the evenings when she visits in the heat. Have a great trip!!

As a lifelong Wisconsinite, I feel the same as you. We went once in December and hated packing twice as much stuff for the trip. We needed jeans, sweatshirts, shorts, t-shirts, and a light jacket. (No hats and gloves, but coming from Wisconsin 40 degrees is like a cool autumn morning.) As for the heat and humidity, it bothers my wife more than me, but we both agree that if we dress appropriately, drink plenty of water, and take advantage of A/C when we need it, it isn't too terrible.

I agree, packing for a winter trip is the worst! You have to bring literally everything.

I'm from Ohio but lived in NC 3 years. It's one thing to duck in and out of Ac and quite another to spend a whole day sweating in the parks. Our first trip was Labor Day week and we were pretty miserable--still happy to be at Disney, but sweating and gross. My Frog Togg helped but it was getting kinda gross. (Sea World was the very worst, just sitting in the stands melting.) Live and learn. Our next trip is late February.

Here now, it starting to shift from nonstop sweat to just being sweaty. Wearing white during the day has really made difference.

We've done 8 September trips and I honestly don't know why. It's awful, I won't lie. But it's less crowded then other times of year. Just this past year we decided it's not worth it anymore, we were miserable, we all look like drowned rats in all the pictures, found ourselves real unable to enjoy anything. But as we looked around, others didn't seem to be bothered by it. We just decided that we'd rather wait in longer lines and crowds and be comfortable and not smelling everyone. We used to live there,, so we do know what we are in for thanksgiving week, but we have a lot of experience and a good touring plan. But I am sure you will be fine and have a blast and may be like most of the people we saw not bothered much by it.
