September 28, 2016, DVC Member Cruise on the Magic!

looks like I may have answered my own question. you need clearance to get on the port site.

That taxi co. is located at Pier 21. they may have automatic onsite access. we have an email in to check with go tours.

Am I being obsessive if no sooner than I get off the Dream than I'm already watching my countdown to this cruise?

Here's a link to some helpful FAQs at the Cruise Halifax site - http://cruisehalifax.ca/our-port/faqs/

When there are multiple cruise ships in Port, we occasionally use the Lower Berths at Ocean Terminals (Piers 31 and 34). Passengers and crew are shuttled from the Lower Berths to Pavilion 22 because Ocean Terminals is a restricted and secure working terminal.

How long is the Harbourwalk?
  • It takes about 30 to 40 minutes one way to walk the Harbourwalk from the Dockside Shops at Pavilion 22 to Casino Nova Scotia.

would a reverse order on our itinerary be the better course given the logistics and timing? In other words, we do all the downtown Halifax touring first thing.
It'll be quiet, easy traffic and virtually empty crowdwise. We proceed to Peggy's cove/Terence Bay as our last stops - anticipating heavy crowds just at Peggy's cove. But otherwise, experience a very peaceful, quiet tour the whole day and go straight back to the pier from there? the only problem is we'll all be very hungry. a full lunch stop is out of the question.

Interesting- this might not be a bad option! There is one ship ahead of us at 8, we are at 9 with one other ship, & the last one for the day arrives at 10. I want to try to check the Peggy's Cove webcams on 9/5, 9/11, and 9/22 throughout the days - there are three or four ships each of those days, around the same arrival times as our day. So, start checking the webcams maybe an hour or so after arrivals, to get some idea of the flow of traffic at Peggy's Cove relative to the ship arrival times. Will there be more people earlier, then a bit of a slow down, then picking up again early afternoon, for instance.

You just got off the Dream! very nice. which Disney cruise was that for you guys?

As you can see. we're in full planning mode here too! i'll start to relax hopefully by Aug.

I just spoke with the Halifax Port Authority. The shuttles from pier 31 to 21/22 area are full size(55 pass) and double decker buses which run a continuous 10 minute round trip loop until the ship leaves.

Absolutely not! How did you enjoy your Dream cruise? Did you see Finding Dory??

Loved it, especially since this was the first time we brought the whole family since 2003 and it was my daughter-in-law's first ever cruise. I fear I've spoiled her for life.

They had showings Thursday night at 7, 9 and 11 in the Buena Vista theater and a 3D shoeing at 10:45 in the Walt Disney Theater. Loved it, although I admit to a little drowsiness after a day in the sun.

To Bobbi, Mathmagicland and Daffydee.

I was able to contact the Halifax Port Authority and spoke to the cruise coordinator regarding pick ups at pier 31.

He told me to have our tour guide contact him and arrange for access to the pier which shouldn't be a problem.

I gave Laila his info and she will let me know the outcome. Hopefully we won't need to use the shuttle...fingers crossed.

Thank you! I hope you are right. You are doing everything imaginable to make this excursion flawless.

Since I know I'll be hungry for a taste of the local fare...Laila told me that a new lunch kiosk just opened at Peggy's Cove and they make great lobster rolls...1 for poison and 2 for me.

No go on a reverse order. Laila told JQ it's too risky with the timing. Every cruise ship and private operator heads right to Peggy's Cove because of the distance. Then they drive back into town to complete the tours. She does it this way as well to insure we are in town by the afternoon and close to the port so we get back to the ship on time.

oh and I found this interesting for everyone: JQ called that Halifax Taxi Tour company that picks up at Pier 31 to get some feedback and was told they're sold out on 9/30/16. I don't know how big the company is but I'm expecting our day in Halifax to be very busy. Really glad we booked our tour early.

Awesome, JQ - thanks so much! Hopefully pixie dust is headed our way :)

Thanks again for all of your work on this!! Yes, really glad as well you started this early, with four ships in port I expect it will be busy in town that day. It is one of very few days there are 4 ships.
