I personally do not ever wake patients up- unless I have to. Which at my new job is frequently as we do neuro checks- which I can do in less than 90 seconds.
My pet peve is: when I wake patients up to do a neuro check and they tell me their pain is a 10/10- I go and get pain meds and they are asleep when you get there. (and no I am not taking fovever to get back to them) So, I have to wake a sleeping person to give meds. Drives me nuts.
Nursing is a great career. I love it and can't imagine doing anything else. Sometimes I hate it- esp. when you get lots of "code browns"
However, I could never imagine working outside of an ICU setting- TOO boring. I like how technical it is. Scott, you should consider it- we need more men in nursing. You could be done in less than 2 years.
Peter- do you get any of the Disney podcasts? Do you use I-Tunes? Pretty user friendly....you should be able to stick your CD in the drive and if you have I-tunes open- it should just put itself on your library. I love my Ipod mini and listening to inside the magic on my way to work- if I am on the train. I have satellite radio in the car- so I listen to CNN.
