Hello, I have been quietly reading your thread for a few weeks now. We will be joining you on this magnificent 11-day cruise.

We are new to cruising and new to this Board. So, we'll take any advice anyone is willing to give. I am kind of regretting that my very first cruise is of this magnitude since it is SOOOO much planning. I think that I am going to need these 8 months to figure out what we are doing at all these ports!!
:confused3

I did notice that a lot of the people chatting do not have kids. We will be bringing ours. I can't wait to tell them!!!

Anyways, we are Don and Michelle from Mentor, Ohio. We have 3 daughters who will be 7, 7 and 9 (her 9th birthday is Sept. 14th!).

Looking forward to meeting everyone,

Michelle

Michelle and Crew, welcomeaboard. I am sure Peter will get you headed in the right direction for links to various location, i.e. roster board, for email etc. He is a link master. LOL

Where is Mentor, Ohio. I guess I am too lazy to dig our the atlas.

reading you post closer Michelle. The folks here will help ya plan and will provide tips galore. The only draw back to doing a long cruise as your first is you will be very spoiled and not want to do a 3-4 day cruise.

We are kid less so will not be much help there, well unless you consider Malamutes kids, they do.

Welcome .... and wow your first cruise is going to be a long one.. that is great as scott has said, it will be tough to do a short one after that.
We both did the 14 day earlier in the year LOVED it..
Kids there are some going also..
Trust me once the kids find out all the fun stuff for them to do, you will be going, where are those kids.. and may even have a few minute on your hands to Partake in a few of the "KEWL" events planned with folks on this forum..
I have sent you a PM and Im sure my Friend Tracy has hooked you up with her Fun Newsletter to help with plannig & Getting to know your Fellow Disboard cruisers..
Let the fun Begin !!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: pirate:

We are happy to be able to share in your Cruise excitement.. after all that is what this is all about !!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
We still feel the excitement Even though we have been on Dcl 10 times

Mentor is about 30 miles east of Cleveland, on Lake Erie.

I agree we will spoil ourselves on this 11-day since it is our first cruise.
We were going to do a 7-day in July, then my husband (the brilliant man that he is!!)suggested looking into this one. The price is LESS and we are getting 4 more days and more ports. The only drawback will be our kids missing school, but I figure at least it will be the beginning of the school year, so they won't be missing too much!

Michelle

My opinion is that travel is school, great exposure to other places, people, science, geography, etc and the list gies on. As a kid my folks always took us out of school to travel and it was great.

Welcome Rockolmamma :wave2:  from another Buckeye and someone else who is new to this board. My DH and I took a 7 nighter last year on DCL and are really looking forward to this cruise. You couldn't have picked a better cruise line to make your first cruise on. :cheer2: :woohoo: The only problam I can to see to making an 11 day cruise your first is what was said before, you won't want to take any shorter ones. This group is great :woohoo: :Pinkbounc  and very helpful. Our other cruises we didn't know anyone before we got on board. :sad2: It will be nice to see friendly faces this time. The newsletter is great  and will be a great help to you in planning. Welcome to the party! party:

I just got around to reading part of the newsletter. I see that Tracy had mentioned having the party in the Milwaukee area, I do not object to this. I had not read the newsletter- so I did not know that it had been mentioned.

I am more than willing to plan something for Milwaukee or Chicago, or where ever. I live an equal distance from Chicago or Milwaukee- roughly an hour from either. Once again- makes no differnece to me. I could think of great things to do in either city. It also does not have to be on the dates I mentioned- but if it was to be at my house, that is the only date I could do. But we could also meet at an independent place. If we did an independent place- I am open to more dates and times.

(Unless people want another meet in July when we are down in the WDW area at the Beach Club.)

Could people please post their preference for a city- then we can finalize info like date and place after that point. Tracy and I want to do whatever is best for everyone and would draw the greatest crowd.

Once more people post their preferences and we settle upon everything, we will put together an "e-vite" for the party.

My only preferences is that we could ask people from the May repo to come as well- even if they are not coming on this cruise.

I know if you cancel, they will credit your price towards another trip. Elaine how far are you from Albany or Buffalo- I can't remember which city you said you went to this weekend- however they frequently do "ding" from both.

Peter that's the one. Now none of this I put in you Fish Extender last night and What it was not there this morning LOL.....

Celeste,

My DH and I have family both in the Chicago area and in Wisconsin so either place would work for us. :yay: :yay: We could incorporate a family visit in with it. We are fairly flexable as far as dates go as long as we have some notice. Would love the chance to meet some of our fellow cruisers before we go. ::yes:: ::yes::

A big thanks for the newsletter to editor Tracy and all of the staff writers. I was really enjoying the article about diving until I read about SHARKS!!! I do appreciate all of the information provided as I have not been to any of the islands we are visiting (with the exception of Castaway Cay).

Welcome to our new cruisers and I am sorry to see some of our group cancelling.

Our Fish Extender is a little shy of 8 inches wide.
Thanks Scott. That's what I was afraid of. The one I found is 14" wide and simply won't fit the space available........and it was perfect for this trip.

Would work if you got some of them 3m hooks that come off after you are done without any harm to surfaces..could go right on door..
some one walking off with it May be another problem..

we did not Secure our fish extender, last trip and it stayyed put the whole 14 days..

maybe because the child number was only around 300 for the cruise..

For those looking for the perfect Valentine's gift this year, shipboard credit is a nice idea. I heard on the radio this morning, that the average consumer spends $100 for this holiday.

Valentine Spending

I am asking my DH for shipboard credit for all gift giving occasions this year. Last year, he gave me credit for my birthday (which was 5 days before we sailed) and I was able to use it for 2 shore excursions, some photos and a few tropical drinks.

For those who dislike shopping, you just call Disney, give them your reservation number and your credit card number and you are done. No malls, no flower shops, no jewelry stores, no online ordering at the last minute...
