Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Hi everyone.......just found this a few days ago and have read and read and feel like I already know some of you now. :cool1:

Our family is joining you for our first ever Disney Cruise. Son, wife and daughter, Daughter, hubby and two sons and daughter, then comes me Grandma.

So after reading everything I have been busy making the Fish Extenders....:rotfl2: I can't have my grands left out so I will have little things for them. :woohoo:

Can't wait to meet all of you and have some fun times.

Sandy

Welcome to the group!!!! :cool1:

I guess I need to start thinking about what I am packing for this trip too. Usually I have piles of things already set up by this time :rotfl2:

I have a box of FE stuff, scavenger hunt prizes, and door magnets all set aside waiting to be packed. And yesterday, DH and I checked that all our passports were where we thought they were, and went through our storage to get the garment bags and formal wear so we can try it on. Yes, we've decided to bring the formal wear! Usually, I'm begging and pleading for him to bring it and he doesn't want to, and this time, when we don't even have to fly, after I say I'm not that into it, he's the one who wants to dress up. :lmao:

The girls' dresses from last time still fit, so there's formal and semi-formal night done for them. DH needs to try on his tux and suit, but they should be fine, as he's about the same as he was then. And it all needs to be drycleaned. I have several dresses, and none of them fit. The one I really want to bring is a bridesmaid dress from my cousin's wedding five years ago, and I was about 35 lbs heavier than I am now, so it's a little big on me. I'm going to see if I can have it altered before the cruise. It's so pretty. The other gowns were from our 2005 PC Repo, before I had my second daughter and I'd need to lose about ten more lbs to fit into them properly. I got them on last night, but I'd not be able to sit in them or breathe, really. :rotfl2: So I still need a semi-formal dress, and my favorite Jessica McClintock outlet has closed its doors. So I'm on the lookout for a dress! Once I find one, a pair of fancy shoes for each kid, I'm all set as far as shopping and just need to pack. I have wraps, jewelry and shoes for everything from last time that I never get to wear except on a cruise. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! I have yet another question that I can't seem to find in the general cruise thread.

Are you supposed to arrive before your embarkation time (i.e. like at the airport)? If you have 11 AM, do you arrive right at 11, a bit before or what? How early is too early :rotfl2:, can you tell I'm anxious to get on board?

I'm really not sure about the weather in S. Cal/SF and Encenada. What is everyone packing to wear during the day? Shorts? Jeans? Capris? Will it really be warm enough to use the pool?

Also how cold/hot are the staterooms? Trying to figure out if I should pack DD's long sleeved or short sleeved PJs!

Thanks!

I'm making good progress on the FE items!

You can arrive when you want. We arrived early last time and went right in to the terminal and checked in, but then we sat there and waited for the boarding. I have heard its better to let the intial rush die down and then you can flow right through the entire process. We will more than likely get excited and get there at 11:00 for our 11:30 check in.

Weather in So Cal and Ensenada should be warm, we plan on wearing shorts during the day and swimming in the pool. For SF it could go either way and the best advice I heard was to dress in layers.

It should be warm enough to use the pool. Its heated. When we did the 2 day cruise to nowhere in Jan, I was in the adult pool most of the afternoon. and the the kids pool always seemed full :)

I thought there were thermostats in each of the staterooms to make them warmer/colder - so it just depends on individual comforts .

Inside the ship tends to be a bit chilly for my taste. I always bring a sweater to wear around the ship. The room will have an individual thermostat to control the temp. It will likely be warm enough for the pool as we leave LA, and when we're in SD and Ensenada. SF could go either way. I'm planning to bring a pair of jeans, a couple shorts, and maybe some more comfortable pants or capris. For tops. Short sleeved and then a hoodie and a sweater to wear on the ship, and a light jacket for night time outside, and in case I need it in SF

That was the one we didn't bring the kids on, so DH and I were in the adult pool and jacuzzi a lot of the cruise as well. :thumbsup2

Morning ...... today I am making pillow cases for my grands to have signed. I think I am having too much fun with all of this. :rotfl2: I will be in my craft room every day now.

Yesterday I printed off the mickey heads found on here added their names and am now in the process of making magnets for their doors. My daughter in law is so smart......get clear contact paper to cover them. Way cheaper, get the effect and kids will love it. We have 3 rooms and 9 of us, so works for me.:dance3:

Have a great day!!!

You are an AWESOME grandmother! I can't figure out how to make anything for our doors minus a tiny square magnet I bought and painted a mickey head on LOL. I am going to try to find pillowcases for the boys too ... just haven't made it that far. DH is taking his NCLEX (nursing boards) today so things have been slightly crazy around here as he tries to study.

My kids used the pools on the 2-night cruise to nowhere also :thumbsup2 I hope we have weather like that (just a bit warmer though). I remember throwing capris and shorts in at the last minute and I'm sure glad that I had them.

I love my craft room.......it is full of paper crafting (im a demo with Stampin' Up!), sewing and overflows upstairs to all my wood pieces for tole painting. I love having a place to have some fun. I usually have all I need to play when I please........but then there is only me in this house. :rotfl2: The grands love to come over and craft also. We stayed up one night till midnight crafting punch art animals. :lmao: Bad grandma letting them stay up that late.:cheer2:

Just talked to my daughter, Christy............Matthew broke his wrist last night..:sad2:....so he will be in a cast for the cruise. Fell off a swing backwards. He is not a happy camper today........arm up with ice on it. The wait is on for a few days for swelling to go down before cast gets on. His 11th birthday is on fri and looks like he might get it on that day. I remember those days.........ugh :rolleyes2

Thanks Bill!

This one is more informative than the one that was on the Disney Web Site a month or so ago.

I'm getting sooooooooo excited :dance3:

I'm thinking he will be on the first cruise and they will show a video of his talk on the others. I hope I'm wrong.

Bill

I was originally hoping John L could hop on a few of the cruises since we'll be so close, but it does sound like he'll only be on one. And what Bill says makes a lot of sense.

Still holding out hope that he makes a cameo appearance on our cruise though. Hopefully Disney magic shines on us!

I have a feeling you are right. After I heard he would be on one of the cruises, I went back to see if the remaining suite (not sure if it is Walt or Roy) was still there...hoping it wasn't. But it was still available, LOL.

I was hoping that would be a sign that he might be on our cruise.

Bill, thanks for the link, they mention "special pixar cruise merchandise". I could be in trouble! :rotfl2:

Thanks all for the info on embarkation and what to pack. Sounds like we need a bunch of different clothes!

This is a really silly question, but there is no weight limit to the bags like on an airline (50lbs)? I think I want to cram DDs booster seat in the suitcase after we arrive at the port to avoid carrying it around on the ship when we board. Or maybe I'll bring an exta duffle bag.
