Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

Lol! My DS9 is EXACTLY the same way - my husband and I lovingly refer to him as Worst Case Scenario.... We've learned to placate his fears somewhat and try to keep him away from the news (hurricanes, earthquakes, natural and man-made disasters spur new fears). I attribute his fears to an over-active imagination.

As is my 11 year old. We also keep her away from the news. I've recently taken to positing equally wild scenarios when she starts going off the rails with the "what if...?" The wilder I make them, the more it distracts her and gets her laughing, and she starts to realize that maybe she doesn't need to worry so much about random things happening.

I think it's a completely normal part of being an adolescent. They're starting to be more aware of what goes on in the world and some of the things that can happen, and they're not as sheltered from it as they had been when they were younger.

WendyinOC any chance you could update with your daughters name? I know some of us are doing personalized gifts and just want to include her. Also shopmom how old is Hudson?

Thanks!
Hi all

Just want to confirm that Shopmom's room is 8540. It is only my husband Robb and myself , Sheri this time around.

Just got home from our trip to WDW and a 5 day DD on the Dream with my sons so its time for mom and dad to get some R & R and this itinerary was too good to pass up even though I just got home from vacation - oh well

I think Oli has got the giant prawn idea from seeing the Giant Squit exhibit at the museum and then falling in love with prawns when in Aussie. Everything has to be the biggest, tallest etc at the moment.

I see Disneyland has had a little shake today. I won't mention it to our kids as they just calmed down and stopped playing 'there was an earthquake and you died' after the 7.0 one in July here. I don't need them running around Disneyland demonstrating earthquake drills to all the other people in the park.

My cruise documents arrived today! :cool1: I didn't think that they'd arrive before we left. Now I have two bag tags per person - is that one for carry-on and one for stowed? If I bring my booster seat bags that's going to take us over one stowed per head if so.

Does anyone know what the "Headline" show might be on Tuesday night?? We were considering going to a Giants games, since we've never been to MLB game before, but didn't want to miss any of the Disney Production shows.

You got yours before I got mine (they are on the way!)

You get two luggage tags per person for the luggage that they take at the curb and put in your room. You don't need a tag on your carry on luggage.

I'm here visiting again. I was talking with erbie and wanted to share a money saving tip we learned on the DISboards heading to cruise our #4 ...

Preparing For Your Cruise

Question: May Guests bring alcohol onboard?
Answer: While adult Guests ages 21 and older may bring alcohol onboard, the following guidelines apply:
  • Outside alcohol cannot be consumed in any lounge or public area
  • At Palo and Remy, a $20 corkage fee will be charged for outside wine and champagne
  • Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension
Please note: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

I believe Disney is the only cruise line that allows guests to carry on wine, beer and hard liquor Everyone needs to be very respectful of the policy. We don't want to lose this privilege. No sneaking wine and drinks into pool, lounge or dining areas.

I'm not aware of any policy against blenders in the cabins :rolleyes1
(There is a policy against bringing electrical appliances... do they make battery-operated blenders???)

Ah you are a star, thank you. That means I still have four bag tags spare at this stage when I include two carseat bags (which I made out of the most horrid cheap lined curtain fabric so nobody in their right mind will steal them!). Excellent. That means we can buy heaps and heaps and heaps of stuff in the USA. Oh wait, I already did thanks to the Disneystore sale! :rotfl:

Where have your documents gone? It's very odd we got ours here as the mail from the US is not fast at all.

LiseG - My husband will have his one bottle of some sort of spirit, he plans on a quiet drink and a book when the kids are sleeping behind thier curtain. I think it will probably be for his nerves after the longest period with our kids since they were born! The rest of the family will be bringing on a case of water for port days.

My DH has been doing some research on dim sum in SF and fish tacos in Ensenada, and I thought I'd post his suggestions in case anyone else is interested. He's still looking into SD.

SF:
Dim sum in stands Chinatown:
* Good Mong Kok
* Yong Kee Rice Noodle Co.
* Wing Sing
* Delicious Dim Sum

Dim sum sit-down restaurants:
* Boulevard (http://www.boulevardrestaurant.com/)
* Fog City Diner (http://www.fogcitydiner.com/)
* Piperade (http://piperade.com/)
* Town's End (http://www.townsendrb.com/)
* Waterbar (http://www.waterbarsf.com/)

We've been to Good Mong Kok, and it's very cheap and very good. I've been trying to get him to go to SF again for a year, just to get some of their har gow and coconut buns.

La Guerrerense is supposed to be the best fish tacos anywhere. The same woman has owned it and run it for like forty years, and her daughter is a dr or phd in San Diego who comes down every weekend to help her mom.

Erbie - any tips for non-fish Ensenada eats? I'm allergic to fish and pork amongst other things and while DH would love fish tacos, I'd love just about anything else.

I'll put DH on the job.

Also, I'm looking at my ticker and it's 24 DAYS!!!!! That will fly by in no time!

Newbie question - is there a postbox and a place you can buy stamps for anywhere on the Wonder? Some small people have promised half a dozen friends postcards from onboard the ship. *sigh*

I'm half packed based on what everyone is saying in terms of temperature. Of course Spring arrives on 1 Sept, so we are leaving home just as everything warms back up.

DH is still battling the insurance company over the ring that fell in the loo on the flight from Sydney. I'm not going to chance luck by wearing my wedding ring to the US.

Small people are starting to get pre-trip jitters. Oli asked yesterday 'what happens if the Wonder is attacked by a giant prawn?'. No matter what answer I gave it was not acceptable. So I've said JetSkiGrl's husband is packing a special prawn killing ray gun. They believed that, sorry Mr JSG!

I told Mr. Jetskigrl about the special prawn killing ray gun and he said he thinks he can throw one together in his shop :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
I also told him about the giant pool of butter for dipping afterwards and he said "even better!!!"

So tell Oli that Mr. Jetskigrl has his back!!! :rotfl2:

This whole exchange and the picture on Facebook are cracking me up!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Where have your documents gone? It's very odd we got ours here as the mail from the US is not fast at all.

I have a travel agent in the US so they go to her first. She sends them regular mail to me and they sometimes get held up crossing the border. She knows I don't panic if I don't get them so we save the courier costs.

Were you on the Aug 24 cruise? If so, we were on that one as well with 6 days at WDW prior to the cruise. The unpacked suitcases are glaring at me. I know I need to get started on laundry knowing this cruise is just weeks away. It will be just dd and I and she is very excited to be going on a girly trip without her brothers. The Dream was beautiful but large! Five nights just isn't long enough so I am looking forward to 7 nights on a much smaller ship!

Welcome back!!! Yeah, we did B2B when we did the Dream so that we could spend more time. It still wasn't enough :rotfl2: But I did love the ship and I can't wait to see the Fantasy next year :thumbsup2

My grands were over today and I showed them the pic of the giant prawn......omg too funny. I will tell them no worries. Thanks for bringing the "BIG GUN" to keep us all safe............:rotfl2:

Have their pillow cases done and in a zip lock with the fabric pens for each.

Christy is checking on a water proof cast for Matthew......omg they cannot get him into the ortho till tues. a week of having a splint.....hope it all goes smooth for him. Of course he is just worried about his birthday party tomorrow. Ever heard of a "Bacon Cake" :stir:....ugh....doesn't sound good to me at all. What does a grandma know though. I am sure all the kids will love it.

Have a great night all........:banana:

That's fine, that will keep all the last minute stalkers on the other cruise:rotfl2: Still looking forward to all the other Pixar stuff especially the artwork:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Nice positive spin Gary! I'm more than happy with the line-up on our cruise. We have at least one Cars nut in the house.

We caught the trailer for Planes from Pixar. I can't wait for that and the boys are so excited. I also saw a new Tinkerbell movie coming out too, which looks beautiful.

Sandra - that's a heck of a long time to be in a splint without casting. I hope he's not in too much pain and they immoblised it well for him. You can get all sorts of waterproof contraptions these days for casts. Fingers crossed your grandson is way too busy with all the other activities onboard to want to get in a pool anyway.

JSG - I told Oli about the ray gun and he was most statified but cautioned it just had to kill the thing, not blow it apart as it could be good eating. :rotfl2:

Gail - what was the final count for the postcards please? I'm hoping to get to the shops this weekend.

Okay people - we got a little sidetracked here with giant prawn attacks... is there a postbox and place to buy stamps to all nations on the Wonder?

Small people problem 8 sleeps out from flying... both boys have swollen tonsils, bunged up ears and swollen glands. :scared1: They have been put on anti-biotics and are getting checked again next week. I hope it's not what I had, that took over 15 days to come right from. They look and sound completely normal but I knew that they weren't 'right'.
