Sept. 23, 2012 Pacific Coast - Wonder Cruise

I have a feeling you are right. After I heard he would be on one of the cruises, I went back to see if the remaining suite (not sure if it is Walt or Roy) was still there...hoping it wasn't. But it was still available, LOL.

I was hoping that would be a sign that he might be on our cruise.

Both Royals are gone as of last time I checked, which was yesterday. The last time I saw it available was a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't been checking regularly. So there's still hope. :lmao:

Oh, cool. I checked right after I heard he would be on one of the cruises and there was still one available. Maybe I was wrong and that was a 2-bedroom or something.

Well, I guess there is still hope :cool1: :thumbsup2

Any newbies with a dd from 11 to 13 coming along? My dd11 is looking for friends to be penpals with precruise and to hang in the Edge with.

Do we know which night is formal and which is semi? Also will we not know our dining restaurant rotation until on the boat?

Newbie question - is there a postbox and a place you can buy stamps for anywhere on the Wonder? Some small people have promised half a dozen friends postcards from onboard the ship. *sigh*

I'm half packed based on what everyone is saying in terms of temperature. Of course Spring arrives on 1 Sept, so we are leaving home just as everything warms back up.

DH is still battling the insurance company over the ring that fell in the loo on the flight from Sydney. I'm not going to chance luck by wearing my wedding ring to the US.

Small people are starting to get pre-trip jitters. Oli asked yesterday 'what happens if the Wonder is attacked by a giant prawn?'. No matter what answer I gave it was not acceptable. So I've said JetSkiGrl's husband is packing a special prawn killing ray gun. They believed that, sorry Mr JSG!

Is anyone going to the San Diego Zoo on their own? If so, what type of transportation are you using?

We are trying REALLY hard to figure out how to get to Balboa Park with all of us (5 adults, 3 kids) and are struggling. We looked at renting a car but nothing is super close

:beach: We're planning to make it a beach day at Belmont Park and need transportation as well.
For a rental car, check out Advantage Car Rental. They have a shuttle from the cruise terminal and cheap rates on cars. Medium car (5 passenger) $28.90. :car:
Enterprise Rent-A-Car's "Little Italy" location is close and offers "We'll Pick You Up" service, but the rate is substantially higher.

If I decide I want to let someone else drive (so I can enjoy a beverage with DH), I'm considered splurging with Harbor Airport Transit.

That is so funny!

This will be our family of 4's first ever cruise and my youngest who is 10 has a wild anxiety streak and has been asking stuff like "what happens if someone is really sick on the ship, or gets really hurt?" or "what happens if robbers get on the ship and we are all taken hostage?" "can the ship run out of gas?" "is that hurricane going to be anywhere near us?, if not THAT hurricane what if another one comes that IS near us?"...his concerns are all more "somewhat normal concerns" but just not for a TEN year old--I also have NO idea where he comes up with these ideas as we have not done any talking about those types of things in front of the kids......I long for the days when it was things like giant prawn attacks that could be quelled with a promise of a giant prawn ray gun LOL

:rotfl2: Well, if there would be a person that had a special prawn killing gun, it would be my DH :cool1:

You can tell them that we have personally inspected both the ship and the waters off California and Mexico, and have found no giant prawns :thumbsup2

And then they melt all the butter on the ship in the pool and we have a giant prawn pirate buffet! pirate:

Even though we're only two hours away, we decided to start our vacation a little early and spend the night in San Pedro. Any of you locals ever been to The Encounter restaurant at LAX? Being giant sci-fi/fantasy/alien nerds, we really want to go for dinner Saturday night. Any reviews?

Walt Disney Imagineering designed the interior so we're keeping with the theme of the week.

That is the one at the top of the spaceship-looking structure, right? Can you believe that I have lived here my whole life and never eaten there....

I have heard it is good though :thumbsup2

Lol! My DS9 is EXACTLY the same way - my husband and I lovingly refer to him as Worst Case Scenario.... We've learned to placate his fears somewhat and try to keep him away from the news (hurricanes, earthquakes, natural and man-made disasters spur new fears). I attribute his fears to an over-active imagination.

Monday is Formal Night, Thursday is Semi-Formal, and Friday is Pirate Night. I asked an was told that you will get your dining rotation when you check in and get your KTTW (Room Key), it is printed on them.

OMG that is the BEST -- I LOVE IT!

"is that hurricane going to be anywhere near us?, if not THAT hurricane what if another one comes that IS near us?"

You can tell him that the ships are very good at going around hurricanes. I was on the Magic EB Repo in 2005, and we went through the edge of a hurricane. We had to skip Cabo and we went to Manzanillo instead, and it was pretty rocky for a few hours, but we were just fine. :thumbsup2
