Sept 2012 car rental......

Hey all,

I just signed up in the boards because I am going to Walt Disney World the first week of September (1st time with the family!). We're planning to rent a minivan and I read A LOT of bad reviews about Dollar rent a car at MCO. Which car rental companies are cheap, and legit?

I found a lot of great coupon codes in the earlier pages of the thread, which are awesome!

I hope to learn as much info as possible in the next week before the trip :)

I can't post link for sources, but I'm sure you can easily find them on google.

Updated my Dollar reservation this am.....Currently have a full-size from 9/21 to 9/27 for $130.83 total. This was from the city special link ($79.97 before taxes and fees). I think compacts were about $10 cheaper.

I also have a reservation with Alamo that I reserved using links from workingadvantage.com. This is a site that I get a free membership with from my employer. If you work for a hospital that is a member of VHA, ask your HR dept. about it---that's how we have it, but I am sure that it is available from other companies. It's currently for a standard for about $146 total. I booked it several months ago and the rates today are still a little higher, about $170 total. I will probably end up using this one because of the free extra driver since DH and I are both Alamo insiders members.

So keep checking....the rates are coming down!

Just booked with Budget for a minivan with BDC: X474200 Coupon Code MUWZ023 for $330 total for Sept 1-8th.

Everything else including Alamo and even Enterprise with codes are around $500.

I thought Sept would be low-season :(

What is a good rate for a standard or full size car?

I'm booked with Alamo right now for $161 for a standard car.

9/29 (6:30pm) - 10/9 (7:00am)

Just curious if that is a good rate or would I expect to get an even better rate as my date gets closer.

My daughter and I will be leaving on Sept 27 and returning on Oct 1 so I am renting from 9/26-10/2. Right now, the lowest I got them down to was $154 and that's because they are price matching Hertz. I'm renting in the smallish town I live in but could rent in Nashville but so far it's not getting me any lower prices. I even tried changing the dates to next week and Enterprise still shows $166.99.

Any suggestions or coupons I might find? We are traveling on a major budget (even staying off site) but it's our first real vacation and she is 22 years old so I'm trying to stretch our $$$ as far as I can.

Btw, GREAT SITE!!! I'm finding a ton of info here!

Try Dollar, but in your dates and mini van NO CODES then click City Special
I have a mini vacn 12-18th $230

I've read a lot of bad reviews by just googling Dollar Rent a Car orlando review so I really want to stay away from Dollar, although very cheap.

I want to stay with the other bigger franchises such as Alamo, Enterprise, Budget, etc if I can.

I think that is a very good rate considering how long your rental is. I have been a regular on this board and the best i could do for my week-long rental with Alamo for a full-size was $137.00. I think at one point I could have saved $10 or so with another company but I wanted to stick with Alamo.

In 20+ years of traveling we have used Dollar for probably 80% of our car rentals and have never had an issue with them.

We have had issues with Alamo (although we still use them occassionaly), with double billing.

It is nice to hear good information about Dollar. We have reservations for a mini van with both Dollar and Alamo, but Dollar is $140 cheaper. I really want to go with Dollar and save the money, but reviews for Alamo are good and Dollars were not.

I just checked my Alamo rate for 9/15-9/22 and it's really high this morning.

Has anyone used part of their Discover Cashback Bonus dollars ($20) to buy the $40 Alamo credit? I'm wondering if the one-time use code you get is just a coupon code....such that I won't be able to use the Costco code AND the Discover-purchased code. If I could use both, then I would pull the trigger.

LVTiffy, what you please share what coupon code you used?

The reviews that I'm referring to are talking specifically about Dollar at MCO.

Those are all the bad reviews that I'm hearing about. It is location specific.

I have dollar locally here as well and no problems.

With 155 reviews on Dollar from viewpoints and 81 reviews from review center for 1.5 stars, there must be a reason for it.

Holy Cow, what could be that bad? What do they do?
Now I am worried
