So I think I have DH convinced on going on this cruise. It will be DH, me, our 2 boys and my mother. We are more than likely getting 1 category 6 room and 1 category 12..or something like that. We are trying to find a way to get airfare for under 700-600pp. Any suggestions?

This will be our first cruise as a family (DH and I went on a short 4 day RCCL a long time ago) and first time in Europe. I am beginning to wonder if we are crazy for doing this. I am super excited about doing a Disney cruise. Our boys will be 9 and almost 7 at the time of the cruise.

I do have a few weird questions. How good is the internet connection out at sea? We are hoping to email homework every couple days. How many children will be on board? Will my children have other children to play with?

This is an odd question but I need to ask. I am diet coke addict. Will there be problems getting diet coke on the cruise? I am concerned because I read some reviews where they ran out of some items (Mickey bars) on the last transatlantic. Diet coke is my coffee and I don't know what I would do 14 days without it. Plus I am concerned it would be replaced with a European version of it.. (Nothing against European coke just not sure if it taste's like ours)

Any information would be helpful. I am very excited about going yet a little nervous.

howdy everyone,

What a nasty rainy day here. I tried to use the Radisson web cam to see the Stacks on the Magic but it wasnt working. The port Canaveral cam wasnt working either:confused3
I sure hope one of them is working by the time the Magic leave port. I love watching it pull out each week.

My DH loves diet coke too. I have only done 7 day cruises and they never ran out. I am sorry I dont know about the 14 day crusies. I hope they have it:thumbsup2

Luv2trav, I am sorry some how I missed getting your name and I dont see you on the list I have. Would you mind giving me your first name?
Thanks.

Kathy

Heres a few Disney jokes to brighten your day everyone.:goodvibes

What do you call a pirate that skips school? Captain Hook-y

Thankyou Wendy,
I am trying to learn everyones name and there are so many.
I am looking forward to getting aquainted too.

I do know 3 people here i have cruised with once before, but everyone else are new friends and we have never done a TA cruise before, so I am a bit confused too:lmao:
Maybe we can be confused together:lmao:

I am just following everyones leads here and printing off information about ports and such when people post about them.

Off to do :laundy: back in a bit,

Kathy

Hey Wendy - your children will definitely have other children to play with - there is tons to do and play. They will have a blast. Abby was 9 when we did the last TA and she cried when she was leaving! Diet Coke, I am sure will be around. I cannot go that long either without ice tea so I am in the same boat, but I don't think there is anything to worry about. It is the best family vacation and we are glad to have you on board! Thank you everyone for wishing me congrats on the house - THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!

Welcome aboard! I look forward to getting to know you.

Having been on the August EB PC Repo, I can assure you they did not run out of Diet Coke. Thank goodness because I would have gone through major withdrawal if they they had! :upsidedow

The Port authority webcam is up and running now, and actually pointing in the right direction to see her go, hope the Carnival ship goes first and isn't late. Better view then

Sandi - Congrats on the house! That is great to finally have that settled:banana:
We have had WAY fewer trick or treaters than last year, as well. Hmm--guess it's more candy for us to enjoy at the movies for the next few months. That's one reason I buy the "good stuff", only candy I like, like Peanut Butter Cups and Twix, lol.
:rotfl2: I take the exact opposite approach - Buy stuff I don't like, so I won't eat it:rotfl2: But then it sounds like you have a lot more willpower than me if you expect the candy to be around for "the next few months" :rotfl2:

Welcome aboard! It will be an incredible trip. 3 DD's and I did the EB TA in 2007 and loved every single moment - even the rough seas! I've been to Europe several times before and I have travelled with the kids and w/o DH many times, so I wasn't nervous about those things. I was nervous about being in the middle of the Atlantic however and spent many hours obsessing about weather, etc. (For all the good THAT did!:rotfl2: ). But the since we had such a rough crossing and I survived it, I have no qualms whatsover about what the weather may be on this trip - I know I can handle it now.

As for your other questions:
Internet - it is available, but really, really slow. I would compose email's off line and cut and paste into the email and send to DH each night. He wanted to see pictures, but I didn't even try to send any since the connection was so slow. My DD's needed to do internet research for some HW assignments. That was also really slow. After a couple of days, we ended up just setting those assignments aside and doing them after we returned from our trip. I'm very glad to have the internet access to be able to touch base with family at home, but it wasn't really functional for much more than that for us. DH's work thinks he will be able to work onboard in an "emergency". We'll see how that actually goes :rolleyes1 . It is a vacation, people!

Kids - there will definitely be kids on board (DD7 will be with us), but not nearly as many as a usual cruise. I think there were less than 300 on the EB TA 2007, if I remember correctly. It was nice to not have the pools or the clubs be crowded. It was a bit odd at the sailaway party to realize how few people were actually onboard.

welcome aboard!!!

as for the airfare there will be options out there. I am hoping that the flight consolidator works out for us. Only time will tell though!

your boys will love it! DD's LOVED the TA last time and they were 6 & 2. They will be 9 & 5 this time around. There is SOOOOOO much to do!

The internet connection can be pretty slow. Depending on the size of the emails you would try to send, they may not go through. Hope that's not a deal breaker. The service did seem a little quicker on my cruise this year than it did last year. I did the WB TA in 2007 and there were a LOT of complaints at Guest Services about the internet. In many cases people were given refunds because it was taking 30 minutes or more to send emails. I heard of a few complaints this year duing the EB PC cruise, but not nearly as many as last time.

I didn't notice any difference in the taste of the Diet Coke last year, so I don't know if it was European Coke or not. I'm a Diet Pepsi drinker, but will tolerate Coke when I have to. I don't foresee them running out of it. The only reason we didn't have Mickey Bars was that Disney did not have a European supplier. So it's not that they ran out during the TA cruise, they just didn't have them at all during the Med cruises.

By the way, Welcome Aboard.

Sorry if this was already stated.....was their an alternative to the bars?

Wow, I am finally caught up. I promised that I would not post on this thread until I had read all of it.
I am Corinna, DW to Graham (DH of dolphingirl47) and the DIS nut in the family. This will be our 4th Disney Cruise. Our first cruise was the 5 night special cruise on the Magic on September 1st and we both fell in love with cruising. It's nice to see some familiar names from this cruise :wave2: Nordkin and Boosgram.
I am a certified elementary school teacher and would be only to happy to help out with study hall or similar. I no longer teach. Instead I work for an international airline as a team leader. Sadly my employer flies neither to Barcelona nor to Florida. I have read some posts were people were suggesting buying return tickets and then no showing for the return part. I would like to ask you to please let the airline know once you have arrived at your destination that you won't be using the return portion. We do this all the time as well that we sell customers return fares as they are often cheaper than one ways. If the customer then cancels the return part of the ticket, we can sell that seat on or give it to somebody on a wait list. If the customer no shows, it is then too late to give the seat to somebody else and people who might be desperate to get on that flight will have missed out.
I am up for the FE Exchange either individual or as part of a team.

Hello everyone!!

We, my wife and I, will be sailing with you on this cruise. It will be our 6th Disney cruise, but our first cruise outside of the Bahamas. We are looking forward to meeting everyone and we will try to read back as much as possible.

Dave

There was an alternative, but after the first try, the kids didn't order it again. It was still vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate (or at least chocolate flavored coating) but it just wasn't good.

Hi Corinna,

So glad you're joining us; I still can't believe we're booked! It's wonderful that those of us who have never been to Europe have so many great DISers to guide us. :worship:

I think TheCooksLuvDisney were on our 5-nighter, too. True, Dan and Cheryl?

Thanks for the info. Too bad they did not taste that good. Hopefully Disney comes up with something new this time.
