We have booked this cruise.

Woody

Woody, this time I will bring some books I have already read, lol. I never got past my romance novels to the good ones, so I could pass them on. Sorry.

Me!

ETA: Oh wait, no I'm a EB, I always get my coasts confused!

So, I called and added air through DCL today, the prices everyone has been getting just seemed too good to pass up. The airfare was only $1090 pp which seems less than what I have been pricing just from Vegas to Barcelona. The hotel price is insane, but I think it might be nice to stay in some "fancy" hotel since the savings will probably cover the added cost of the hotel.

I was hoping though that someone who has used DCL for air in the past might be able to answer some questions we had about their service etc.

So here goes...

1) Once you are confirmed and booked to a flight, are you able to reserve a specific seat on your flight?
You should call the airline as soon as you get your flight information, usually 45 days out, and select your seats.

2) Are you able to upgrade from coach to first or business for international flights directly with the carrier?
Last year for our Med cruise we were told our tickets were not upgradeable by the airline because of the booking class.

3) Is Disney pretty good about keeping flights with the same carriers or do they bounce you around from airline to airline in multiple different cities?
We flew from Washington Dulles to Frankfurt on United then Frankfurt to Barcelona on Luftansa, reversed to come home.

4) Has anyone had any problems with their luggage?
Lots of people were having problems with lost luggage that went through London. We did not have a problem, but took a few days clothes in a carry on just in case. There were some on our cruise that never received their luggage.

and finally,

5) How will ground transfers work once you get to Barcelona since they won't exactly have "Magical Express" there.
We were met at the airport by a Disney Rep who took us to a private cab. We were given a tour of the city for about an hour and then taken to the hotel. On the return they had buses taking people to the airport.

We usually like to do everything on our own because we know we can do it right, or we at least have some control over the situation. However, I think in a foreign country it might just be easier to let the experts do it. But, leaving someone else in control leaves me feeling like... Well, like I can't control anything!

What a dilemma! So, any information anyone has about good, or bad experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I hope this helps. It was our experience last year.

Brooklyn, I love your new sig art! I was thinking about doing something like that myself ala or EB TA logo. Can I "borrow" yours?:)

Brooklyn---I, too, absolutely LOVE that image in your signature that kind of incorporates some of the pirate-y images from DisneyVegas' logo but also includes a Mickey, the cruise logo, and all the flags! It looks fantastic!

Yes Brooklyn--the straight skull and crossbones logo is a bit too gruesome for me to want to put it on anything (shirts, bags, whatever) for the kids but yours is ADORABLE. Can you please put it just like it is in your siggie in the graphics part of the website so I can steal it???????

Someone asked about formal. Last time around we got to have 2 semi formals and a formal (or was it the other way aorund?). Dress runs the gammet from people who ignore it to people like us who bring tuxrs for the guys and gowns for the ladies (I will have my "pink barbie dress" with a very short train--Erik has promised to alte rit to fit if I have not altered my self to fit by 2010:rolleyes: )

About DCL airfare. I am now toying with booking it "just in case" If we want to arrive a day or two early MUST we use their hotel?

DisneyVegas- I sent you an email for the rollcall; and could someone please explain how to get the translantic thing in my sig? Thanks all!

Feenie--I just noticed on the roll call you are from New Hampmshire also. I have never sailed with another DISser from NH--what part of the state are you in?

Cruellababy--I am not ignoring you--I just don't know how:confused3

I was told that you do not have to use their hotels, but....

If you want to arrive Friday, there should be no difficulty. Just tell them what you want to do.

If you want to arrive Thursday or sooner, it is out of their "normal" booking times and the flight has to be handled by the "deviation" department. There is a $50 non-refundable fee per passenger and the prices may be different than the ones than you were quoted by the regular reservations staff.

If I understand the process, you first talk to DCL and book the airfare and then email the deviation department to get the airfare changed to the right dates.

If you book the hotels thru DCL, I don't believe that you are charged the $50 fee no matter the arrival date.

However, ymmv. The first regular reservation person I spoke with insisted that they would only fly me from MCO to Barcelona with Disney airfare! I had to get to Orlando from Houston on my own! So, the answer you get from Disney may be different than the one I get.

Me too! But I am usually very quiet, so easily overlooked.

I just can't keep up with the very fast threads like the Panama one.

By the time I would catch up reading, I was too tired to post!:rotfl:

Oh how cool....when I was in college one summer i lived in a house just off long pond road...which is out in your area. I'm a high school cheerleading/gymnastics instructor and I work with quite a few greece girls at our gym, too....mainly from Olympia.

DH and I live in Woodsville, which is about 45 minutes north of Lebanon/Hanover on the VT/NH border.

HI!
I see you are from Allentown. We're from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. Where do you think you'll fly from?

Hi! You're not too far from me! :)

I have no idea where we will fly from...I'm still trying to prepare myself for that long of a flight (granted I flew to Australia in 2000, but still), so I haven't even thought about it yet. Probably Philly or New York, just not sure which.

I think we will fly from Philly when I checked US Air had a direct flight to Barcelona but who knows what will happen in the next 2 years

Hopefully we will all fly together unless some of us decide to go early I was thinking about it but $600/night for a hotel is a little out of our budget I can find better things like DOTD and spa treatments to spend it on.

okay, I've been playing around with my signature (pirated pirate: a few things here and there) and just wanted to see how it looked out in the real world...:confused3
