I searched back through part 8 of this meet thread, and found that 7 people had expressed interest in doing yoga. As i recall, the "hidden deck" at 7 aft is more than big enough for that many, and more, so I think we should try to make this work. Cynthia (elderfam) has volunteered to lead, and I can lead in a pinch (I'd call myself an "experienced beginner"). As well, the professional fitness people on board (as I recall) offer yoga sessions every 2-3 days, although their sessions tend to be short, only about 30 minutes.

Here are the names of the people who have expressed interest in yoga that I could find in the thread:

For others who haven't done yoga and are curious, it's a wonderful way to increase your flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and help you stay active and healthy as you age. There's a yogic saying that "You're as young as your spine", and yoga is all about the spine and breathing. I do it once a week as a counterpoint to walking and weight lifting (not at the same time!) the rest of the week, and always feel both relaxed and energized afterwards. Try it, you might like it! As Cynthia has said, we won't be doing super-bendy stuff. And if there's a qualified instructor or an experienced yogi or yogini in our midst - please step forward and help us! It doesn't have to be every day, even just once or twice would be helpful.

Should we ask gismo (Sarah) to add yoga, deck 7 aft ("secret deck") at 7:30 a.m. on sea days to the DIS navigator?

Namaste, and See You Real Soon! :flower3:
Richard

I would like to join you too. No experience, but want to learn.

So I leave in 14 days and 15.5 hours! ...

As for next trip....hoping to go to HI to check out the new DVC resort. There is a chance they may send my cousin (works for Disney Weddings) so would meet up with him. I was excited at first about the Alaska cruises, but will wait to hear the reviews as they are not encompassing all the things I would like to do.....Hoping they will release the 2012 itineraries while we are on board.

....I plan to move to FL in 5 years (calling it my 1st retirement - I will only be 40). I need to be happier....So the plan is to move, buy a house (would love Celebration...), get an annual pass and enjoy life......

SOOO exciting that all of you on the B2B are so close to the Single Digit Dance! :yay:

I hope you make it to HI! It would be wonderful to go with your cousin, too, and even better if he can take a couple of days off work to tour with you!

I hate to say it, but I agree with you in the DCL Alaska cruise. I figure WHEN I get around to doing it, I'll only do it once. So I want more of the experience as well. In addition to what you've mentioned, I understand that they do not have rights to go into the inside passage as much as some of the other cruise lines. My mom wants to do an Alaskan cruise for her retirement hooray, and I told her I want to be on that ship with her! So it's possible I'll get that off my bucket list in the next 4-5 years!

Thanks for the feedback on my suggestion of having all the events and excursions online for everyone to note what they are doing. Except for adding events, I’m pretty much finished as I have added all the DCL excursions that I could locate, and also created events for each port for 'Doing my own thing' and 'Staying on the ship', as well as the final event on October 2, 'Leaving the Magic, we're headed to ……

Glenn, it's perfect!! :worship: The reporting side to it as awesome as well! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Me Too !

Dropped from a size 8 to a 4(pants) and found lots of things!:rotfl2:
3 pairs of pants to start with:cool1:

:woohoo: Ann that's fantastic!!! Congratulations!!

....I know i would find it useful to have some packing tips....so does any one else have any packing tips ?

I find it neater and somehow more space efficient to roll up clothes like a pumpkin roll! I'll sometimes put plastic from the dry cleaner's on top of the garment before rolling it up as it seems to reduce the wrinkles.

I think we all know about the over-the-door pockets for the bathroom area. I also pack a vertically hanging shoe holder for the closet. It's great for not only shoes, but other things you just want to keep picked up. Another item I pack is one of those pop-up hampers for the dirty clothes and trips to the laundry room.

Additionally, I suggest investing in a luggage scale. In the States, you can get them for $10 at Bed Bath & Beyond (and we know we always can find those 20% off coupons). I've heard Target has them, too. If you're fearful of your luggage being overweight for your flight home, it's well worth the piece of mind to manage the load before being at the airline counter. Also, at least the one I have has a tape measure built in, and that can indeed come in handy sometimes for the silliest of things.

:rotfl2:I do that cardigan / jacket trick too, keeps the girls warm too! :rotfl2:
Editing - that sounds a bit rude, I meant I do it to the girls, as in my daughters. I turn round their jackets before they go to sleep to keep them warm around the neck and ears.

:rotfl2: I actually read it the way you intended then you went and ruined it :lmao:

Tell me your favourite USA shops....Everyone?????

Goodwill and Walmart - that's the classy kinda girl I am. But we do have 4 outlet malls on our list of places to visit also.

I can now fit into 5 more pairs of shorts and a pair of cropped cargo trousers.....plus several tops and a dress! :dance3:

Yay you!

I've not shown up on the last night for the same reason and have gotten the cold shoulder the next morning at breakfast from the servers because they think you have "stiffed" them. Once you whip out their tip envelopes they become "friendly" again...but is is a bit uncomfortable until they get them!

Speaking of breakfast, is Topsiders open for the buffet breakfast on the last morning or do we have to go to the dining room? I seem to think we found Topsiders was open at the end of the PC in 2008 but I wasn't sure if that was due to so many B2B cruisers onboard?

Just catching up - so I'll reply to as much things as I can remember.

We've booked a DCL Alaska cruise for next year, but will probably have to change this out. DH's family want to travel as a large group next year - somewhere in the Caribbean I think - so we'll try to change to the Dream for later in 2011, or the Fantasy in 2012.

Sending pixie dust to all with dental/medical procedures scheduled before the cruise. :wizard:

As for packing - haven't really started (but have everything for the Candy Exchange in a small suitcase ready to rock & roll :thumbsup2) We'll be shopping tomorrow for a few things - "mentionables" for me and a formal dress for DD being the priority.

I'm still interested, but must add that I am a complete beginner. However, yoga is something I've always wanted to try. :hippie:

It's well past my bed time now, so I'm away to try to catch some zzzz's. Goodnight all. :goodvibes

Okay...I'm going to cave in with the stories of service not being what I would have expected from Disney. Hearing some of your stories makes me a little surprised to hear that the Disney service isn't always there. I figured it was just bad luck of getting perhaps newer people. :confused3:confused3

I've only been on one DCL cruise, so that's all I can presently speak to. I didn't get a good first impression of our stateroom host either. Mind you it improved, but maybe it's because of what happened....

Someone else mentioned they rarely saw their host/hostess. I had read so much on DISboards about how impressed people were with their stateroom host/ess in making themselves visible and welcoming them and asking what the guests needs were when they got to their rooms. I've also been on other cruises and had the same experience with meeting our stateroom host/hostess. That just wasn't the case on our first day aboard the Magic. I've chalked it up to it being a first cruise for the guy or perhaps something happened that afternoon that just didn't permit him to make rounds. :confused3

Our room had three adult women. We never saw our host until the first night when we were walking out the door for 7:00 dinner reservations at Palo. He was no where to be found. At least one of us were in the room most of the time from the time we got on-board up to the Muster Drill and then after the drill, too. I had just laid a note on the bed asking for it to be separated when he turned down service that night when he knocked on the door. Of course we never said anything because I had read about how these hard working people get reprimanded for the slightest thing. So, it was a disappointment, but not the worst thing that could happen. Again, bad first impression, but he was decent (not stellar, but decent) the rest of the week.

Interestingly enough, we got a call from the Hospitality Manager one afternoon just asking if everything was okay or if we needed anything. "That was nice", I thought. It seemed like a Disney thing to do...get a real-time "survey". Well, actually there was one thing I wasn't pleased with, but I didn't want to sound like I was complaining or being difficult, so I never mentioned it to our host. The pull-out bed was just SO hard, that it was uncomfortable to me. So I politely said "Since you asked, I will tell you that if there's anything that I could wish for to be changed, it would be this sofa bed". He asked if we had told the host, and I said I hadn't because I didn't want to sound like I was complaining about something that couldn't be fixed. Oh I'll NEVER do that again! When we got back from dinner, the bed was made up with two of those "egg-carton" mattress pads (a wonderful surprise). However, our host had a petrified look on his face and pleaded to let him know if we ever needed anything. It was so clear that he got the heat for my discomfort that I never even told the poor guy about. As you all said, the survey card space is way too small, but I started out in very small print and went on and on about how he took care of all our needs and expressed again that I never told him about my discomfort in the sofa bed. I was so fearful that maybe I cost the guy his job. That's just NOT cool!

I did later think that perhaps the Hospitality Manager called because someone else had complained about him, but we'll never know. IMO, the bad thing about how strict they are with the CMs is that I personally feel no room to voice a LITTLE concern/request if I had it because the service person could be fired.

So lesson learned....ASK! Don't be afraid to ASK the service provider for something!

My other so-so review is of our assistant server. We were a party of 7 that was comprised of 6 adults and 1 teenager. Angelina from Chile, our head server, was WONDERFUL!!!! This guy (and I know his name and I know he was promoted sometime after our cruise, but I'm not going to name him here) was not on top of things the whole cruise. I was just shocked when someone on the DIS posted a picture of him and they said he was their head server. He was very friendly, but didn't impress me with his job performance. He was slow and let our drinks bottom-out more times than we could count every night.

....That is such a thoughtful gift. She is so talented. I have two Fish Extenders that she made and I just ordered another one for our vow renewal cruise. I also bought a lovely pillow case from her last year, which arrived on the day we left for the cruise, went all the way on the ship and back again and I forgot to have it signed. I took it again on the Med cruise and that time I actually remembered to have it signed. I bought a new pillow case from her for this cruise.

Corinna

Tiffany mentioned to me that you had purchased something from her! I told her about your wonderful offer to give us the jewelry workshops and mentioned that I just cannot wait to see your stunning blue dress!! She really is a very caring person and would probably be so embarrassed if she knew how we're doting over her talent

Topsiders will be open the last morning. We never eat in the dining rooms on the last morning, we don't like to get up quite that early.

Paula, you are my kind of gal :thumbsup2 . I also love the Ross chain of stores that we have here. I've gotten some major discounts there for all sorts of things; e.g., in BJ's (a big quantity wholesale discount store) I found an Eddie Bauer's booster chair for my DGD for $19. I paid $13 in Ross for the exact same thing. I love to shop like that!

I love going to our Goodwill and other thrift shops. Bob goes to the Vintage stores looking for older Hawaiian shirts. Because they call them vintage instead of thrift they can charge a lot more. I get a lot of my books at thrift shops. I have ordered books from Amazon only to find them at the thrift shops before the box even arrived, so I try to hold off getting books until I find them at the junk stores (what my mom called them). It has become almost like a treasure hunt. I also find some by my favorite authors that are out of print. Great fun. One of my favorite Goodwills is on Haight Street, two blocks from Ashbury. It's grand to just walk down that street, a little sad too. val

I got the most thoughtful surprise in the mail that I just have to share with you. I know I've mentioned on here how incredibly sweet Tiffany (Gradysmommy who makes FEs for many of you) is and how disappointed I was when they changed their plans to not go with us on this cruise. She contacted me a little over a month ago saying she bought a lot of lanyard pins on Ebay for her kids to exchange during their next WDW adventure in September. In the lot, there was a buckeye nut Mickey Ears pin. She said as soon as she saw it, she knew where to send it. :) She sent me a picture of it, and I was just so excited! I've never seen anything like it before! Wasn't that nice?!!

So a large envelope comes out of my mailbox from her today. Now why in the world would she put this little pin in a large padded envelope? I got inside, opened it up, and literally started crying.

She made me a buckeye pillow case for the cruise for autographs. O.M.G.! :goodvibes What a treasure that is! Little did she know that I still hadn't decided on what I was taking to have autographed, either. I had a difficult day yesterday, and this little "hug" was just what I needed. Soooo sweet and thoughtful that Tiffany is! :lovestruc

Now that is just adorable. WTG Tiffany!!!!:love::love:

Woohoo - thats a bonus not having to get up quite that early - though we will have to do the customs/immigration thing anyway but I'd rather do Topsiders than a sit down for breakfast in our own sweet time.

I love the variety of the clothing in thrift stores - often its different from what you'd find in the regular stores and I get bored with my clothing very quickly so don't feel so bad to redonate it once I'm done after even just a few wears.

We have a $2 clothing thrift store here (we call them Op Shops) and I get most of my clothing and shoes there. One of the girls the other week at work said - wow you must have a huge wardrobe...

I do have a slight issue with buying socks as I have 3 drawers of them, I think I have enough socks to last my lifetime... but they are so pretty!:rotfl2:

Welcome to all of the new cruisers!

Sadly the more they expand the college program the more the quality of sevice go down at WDW. I have notice a big change in the last few years.

I was on the college program in spring of 2002 and 2003 and I loved every minute of it! I worked with the characters and got to make Disney magic come alive each and every day. Granted, before I went to work at WDW, I had worked my Disney Store for 2.5 years, so I had the Disney personality already.

I find it sad that some CP's are there to party and not to make magic. I have so many wonderful memories that I will literally cherish for the rest of my life.

I do agree that some of the CM's at the parks don't act like they want to be there, which is really sad. My one good friend worked in the entertainment department for years (she was friend's with Chip and Dale among many others). She left Disney a few years ago because she was having some mental health issues and now she can't get hired back. She is such a Disney person that it kills me that they won't hire her again. She is someone who would want to be there because she loves it, not because it is paying the bills.

Tell me your favourite USA shops....Everyone?????

The Disney Store of course! There is one at the Florida Mall! :)

I wish Tiffany was sailing with us! She and her family are so nice. What a lovely gift!

So...finallly after waiting over a week, we received our cruise documents yesterday! I took them to the Disney Store with me (I worked last night) and read them there! Made a few people jealous...LOL!

I have a question for those of you who are doing the candy swap. I'm trying to figure out what to bring and I wanted to knew if anyone was allergic to wheat or peanuts? If you are, please let me know!

Even though it's 10:30 at night, we haven't had dinner yet. It's waiting for us - I wanted to catch up on the thread! LOL! We rented 'Shutter Island' and we're going to watch that when we eat. What a nice Saturday night! :)

Agreed but they are are the skinny minnie models you see in Vogue or Elle. Suits do fit nicely.

Speaking of Vogue.....did I miss a posting that your beautiful custom-made fancy pant suit that your new friend in Arkansas (I think) made for you is finished?

UPDATE - For those in group 4 please note that there are actually 12 players in group 4 (I can't count!). I hope this doesn't muck anyone up!

Any other mistakes, please let me know :)

Micki said she would be sending it on Friday but have not had an update as of yet. I will have to send her an email for an update. Thanks for reminding me.
Micki lives in Alabama, another "A" state. I can't wait to see it!!

My son was a CP in spring of 2004 and fall 2004. In fall of 2004 he was friends with Pluto, among others. Eventually he moved to Orlando and has been working at the parks, both full-time, then part-time since May 2005. He's still there today. He loved being a CP and still enjoys working in entertainment.
