We are off quite soon up to Newcastle to visit Dawn of Bob and Dawn. Bob should have been there and cooking for us, but he found a great excuse in going to the US with work, and making it span out so he couldn't get back in time to see us!!!;):lmao::lmao::lmao: We will also be seeing Jools, their friend, who we have met before, who is also on the cruise but isn't a member here. Friends, food, fun and lots of cruise talk!!!

Have fun

I love newcastle, we go to meet a df sometimes, she is a proper friend, one you can look up after 2 years and we act like its been 2 days:hug:
We wnet to newcastle to do the great north run 2 years ago,(she picked us up and dropped us of like she was a taxi!) It was one of the most amazing days of my life, actually our life, it was great, the red arrows done a fly past just as we came over the line, I cried, Len tried his best not to.....
Its a shame but weve no pics.

Hi All
For those of you who are concerned about forgetting something or require something extra for the rest of the journey there's a MORRISONS supermarket only a short(about 10 mins) walk from the terminal. Morrisons, for those who are not familiar is a large UK supermarket chain something like the quality and range of PUBLIX, it's just like any normal UK/US supermarket and all staff speak English. I've added a link, however the map shown on there website is incorrect if you check-out Google maps it shows the exact location with photos, it was formally known as SAFEWAY, yes it was the same as the US version until bought and re-branded as Morrisons, of course the store will be duty free, and I understand that good vodka (and Rhum) can be had for £7.00 ($10.86) per Litre.
We're going to stock up on a few things including the bulky and heavy items(mouthwash, kitchen towels etc) you want to take but would tip the scales into excess baggage charges.
Hope this helps. http://www.morrisons.co.uk/Store-fi...ibraltar&recordid=1&lat=36.12930&lon=-5.35200

Only three weeks next Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:
See you all then.. Jane & Dave.

Thats great, I need stuff like, nail varnish remover and crap as Len would call it, is the prices the same as the uk do you think(-the vat)

I have always had a lot of trouble finding clothes that fit in the USA. Considering that there is a higher proportion of people that wear plus sizes than in Europe, there is a distinct shortage of shops that cater for this. I love Bath and Bodyworks, Yankee Candle and Torrid.

Corinna

Another vote for Torrid here too!:cool1:

What are we doing wrong, Mandy??? It's rather strange - would you believe Sophie was 9lbs 4oz when she was born...?!!

Wow! Becky was just 6lbs 13 oz and I thought that was bad enough!:rotfl2:

It is strange, but then I am the shortest person by far in my family, the eldest of 3 but my brother is 6ft and my sister is 5ft 9!:rolleyes1.........then again Becky's Dad isn't tall, and his mum was only 4ft 9!!!!!;) guess that's where she gets her petite size from (not me!):goodvibes

None of the models in the ad need a miraclesuit.

Ah, but you should see them without the suit!:lmao:

I love going to our Goodwill and other thrift shops. Bob goes to the Vintage stores looking for older Hawaiian shirts. Because they call them vintage instead of thrift they can charge a lot more. I get a lot of my books at thrift shops. I have ordered books from Amazon only to find them at the thrift shops before the box even arrived, so I try to hold off getting books until I find them at the junk stores (what my mom called them). It has become almost like a treasure hunt. I also find some by my favorite authors that are out of print. Great fun. One of my favorite Goodwills is on Haight Street, two blocks from Ashbury. It's grand to just walk down that street, a little sad too. val

I love getting my books from charity/thrift shops....I read so much it's better value (when I can't get them from the library):goodvibes

That actually makes more sense. But one side of my family is very tall and my mom's dad's side is very short.....there you go, you just don't know how tall your kids will be in our family!:confused3

Yep, absolutely!:thumbsup2

Topsiders will be open the last morning. We never eat in the dining rooms on the last morning, we don't like to get up quite that early.
5 DCL cruises and I still didn't know that!!! Thanks... :thumbsup2

I would NEVER buy a book from a store unless it was a gift.

:disrocks:

Weve done it and prefered the dining room, much less manic I would say..

ohmygoodness it took me like 2 days just to catch up. I kept trying and kept getting further behind! LOL
I'm thinking the same type of clothes you are and then bringing a wrap or a sweater to wear with each. I color-coordinated so it isn't as many wraps as it sounds like. If nothing else I'm thinking that the wind out at sea might be a little chilly. This is my first cruise so I'm not sure but I'd rather pack a few extra pieces rather than be cold all the time.

Rene
Thanks.
I think we'll try bringing light jackets/hoodies or something. :) I'll probably be fine.. I have all this lovely steroid induced blubber to keep me warm.
:rotfl:

A small thing overall and slightly off topic...

My DD Lilian lost her first tooth today. She is very excited. :cheer2:
My baby is growing up.
Aw, that is wonderful and not at all off topic IMO. :)

I am packing mostly shorts and capris for the daytime. Depending on my spa days, a bathing suit and cover-up and always my crocs. I would go barefoot if I could!!!
I hope it's not too cold for my flipflop crocs... it's all I wear besides tennis shoes nowadays. (I mean for daily wear ofcourse) I'll have frozen tootsies but my feet swell on the cruises! (it's the salt I tell ya!) so I really can't wear anything else anyway. Thanks for answering.

Hello everyone
I cant beleive 4 weeks today we will be boarding the Magic.
I got my cruise Docs on monday (booked through Dreams).
Also on Monday my daughter gave birth to my second grandchild, a tiny boy with lots of black hair. Who is absolutley gorgeous of course.

I am going off to stay with my daughter, for couple of weeks from tomorrow, but will have my little notebook and will try to look in when I can. Hopefully I wont miss anything.
When I get back, it will be time to start my packing and get stressed, doing everything in a last minute mad rush !!.

Have a good week everyone
Congratulations on the grandbaby! :)

Hi all,

With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing. In part I wasn't sure if everyone would want to do this, so I'd like to get feedback before I complete it.

The idea is that we could create a list of all the events (room tour, champagne girls, drink tastings, etc.) and DCL excursions, then people could enroll in the events in which they are participating, and that way we could all see what each others are doing, as well as getting head counts and such. I thought it would be nice if you are going on an excursion to know what friendly faces to look for.

Like anything else, the key is participation, if most people would not want to participate, it wouldn't be worth the effort.

The way I have the registration working is that you would login just like for updating the rollcall, but now have an option to edit events.

event_login.jpg

Once you click on the 'Event' link, you would see a list of events. The list is sorted first by events you are attending, then chronological. By clicking on a single event, you would see details below.

event_list.jpg

You would then click on the 'Edit' button, and from there can enroll in the event, as well as select the members and number of your party attending. By default these will initially appear with all stateroom members attending.

event_edit.jpg

I'd like to get feedback to see if people would be interested in doing this. Right now only the sign-up part is complete, but I could have the list of events and event detail pages completed pretty quickly.

Please feel free to play around, but the data is just test data, and will be deleted if/when we set up all the events/excursions.

I approve.... hope I can figure it out. :lmao:

I`m confident that Spain, Gib and Madeira will be warm enough for my usual linen pants & tshirts or summer dresses.
For the Caribbean it`ll be hot weather stuff. So for the possible cold days at sea I have a hoody I bought on the Baltic cruise and I will live in that.
I`m a Brit and upper 60`s is a warm summer day for us!
hoodie- check. That's what I was thinking- and hoping would be good enough.

hi

yeah me

i did not know they could do transfers from barcelona airport thought i was on my own regarding that
I meant reminded of the cruise entirely..... LOL
but now that you mention it- huh what? transfers from the airport to where?

Hello all....just wanted to let you know that DD is home from the hospital....she got sprung this afternoon.....she has made remarkable progress and thanks to all for the pixie dust and prayers....now all she has to do is fill 5 perscriptions and keep taking the medication.....Thanks again all....you have been very kind!
Tom & Marilou
I'm so glad Tom! Continued prayers that she gets well soon!

I always do it at "the last supper" for our wait staff and the last morning for the room steward.

I've noticed (mainly on other cruise lines) that the only time I see the head waiter for the entire cruise is when he comes around during that last evening meal to collect his envelope! Personally, while I generally tip the wait staff and room stewards extra, I don't feel obligated to tip the head waiter unless he (or she, of course) does something extra for us. They do get paid pretty well, unlike the others who depend on the tips.

However, there was one head waiter (Lloyd) on the Disney Magic who was able to fix our reservations that had been messed up by our TA; got us a really good table and a GREAT wait staff; came by every evening to check on how we were doing; and generally went above and beyond. We had all four DDs on that cruise, two teens and two in the kids' clubs - DW and I went to Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay for a couple of hours. We made our way back to Cookie's Bar-B-Q for lunch and to see how DDs were doing. We couldn't find them. We ran into Lloyd, who told us (paraphrasing) "Shawna just finished lunch with her friend Jane and they went to the hideout, Danielle was here about a half hour ago with Mike, Dan, and John and they went back to the teen beach, Kristen came by with Suzy (and, as usual, didn't eat very much) and then went to the family beach with Sue and her parents, and Kimberly came by with her club and she's over at Monstro Point." Lloyd got a large tip!
Wow! I am impressed with Lloyd!

OK, I am a first time cruiser so my feedback may not be very valuable. But I am struggling with packing as well. The girls are easy as they can layer tights and cardigans with their dresses.
For me I have decided on 2 pairs shorts, 2 capri's (one denim), 1 pair long cargo type pants, 1 pair jeans, denim skirt, 2 pairs leggings, multiple T's and tops, 2 cardigans, 2 scarves (I love scarves), 1 wrap, 4 dinner dresses, formal dress, swimwear and cover ups. Oh and crocs, haviana's, gold sandals, silver sandals and ballet flats.Oh, and of course my spanx, :lmao:. I think that's it, hope that helps?
I'd like others to post exactly what they are taking as I did, I am still very unsure and would like to see what the seasoned cruisers take....please!

Oh, I know that feeling, excitement and sadness all at once. I keep all my girls teeth in a jar with a note stating the date they lost them. They also draw tiny pictures for the tooth fairy sometimes, so I pop them in the jar too.

You have very valid points, and I totally agree with your suggestions. I know the whole air saga was a nightmare for you. I hope they listen to your concerns.
Also, Noel is a legend, she is so helpful with everything.

Enjoy your stay with your daughter and new grandson. Please do post pics when you can work it out (it took me ages, not very tach savvy).

Love this idea, Fab :goodvibes

Written in bed with a cuppa tea on my Mac Air
yes!
I appreciate everyone who posted what they are taking. :)

That is one of the nicest things I have ever heard. You are so sweet to say such a nice thing!!
blush.gif
Tis true... you are very helpful indeed!

I am taking note of all of those with a high weight allowance and loads of bags so I know where to come to borrow stuff when I run out of outfits :thumbsup2

HAHAHA I totally need to look at your list- maybe. ;)

OK, temporarily caught up.

Only hole in our travel arrangements is getting from the airport to Le Meridien the day before. Can't use DCL because booked independently.

Has anyone pre-booked direct transport, which can cope with excessive cruise baggage, to a Barcelona hotel :confused3:confused:
we were attempting to prebook transportation but between us and our TA- it was just coming out way too expensive. We're hoping it'll be cheaper just to catch it when we get there- the only thing I'm worried about is we can't really pop in a taxi with 5 people and HOPEFULLY 5 carryons, one checked bag. and I'm not really fond of the idea of 2 taxis... so I hope we're able to catch a taxi-van!

I've not shown up on the last night for the same reason and have gotten the cold shoulder the next morning at breakfast from the servers because they think you have "stiffed" them. Once you whip out their tip envelopes they become "friendly" again...but is is a bit uncomfortable until they get them!

Paul
uncool.... but I have read that many times on this board.

I got the most thoughtful surprise in the mail that I just have to share with you. I know I've mentioned on here how incredibly sweet Tiffany (Gradysmommy who makes FEs for many of you) is and how disappointed I was when they changed their plans to not go with us on this cruise. She contacted me a little over a month ago saying she bought a lot of lanyard pins on Ebay for her kids to exchange during their next WDW adventure in September. In the lot, there was a buckeye nut Mickey Ears pin. She said as soon as she saw it, she knew where to send it. She sent me a picture of it, and I was just so excited! I've never seen anything like it before! Wasn't that nice?!!

So a large envelope comes out of my mailbox from her today. Now why in the world would she put this little pin in a large padded envelope? I got inside, opened it up, and literally started crying.
happy_tears.gif
She made me a buckeye pillow case for the cruise for autographs. O.M.G.! What a treasure that is! Little did she know that I still hadn't decided on what I was taking to have autographed, either. I had a difficult day yesterday, and this little "hug" was just what I needed. Soooo sweet and thoughtful that Tiffany is!

IMGP1105.jpg
how sweet!

We are not prebooking. We'll just hop in a taxi when we leave the airport. We've had too many issues with pre-booked transportion (losing our reservation, being late, etc.) This way when we are ready, the taxi is ready. There are always a million (maybe a slight exaggeration) licensed taxis waiting at the airport.

Rene
ditto -hope we're able to find transportation at a decent price without any issues for our family of 5 together in the same vehicle. I might need some pixie dust for that. LOL

Hi Michael,

Not a problem. Any special instructions to add? Transportation? Assume meeting place is HRC. Like Buckeye Gal, do you want to add alternate on-site rendezvous location at the fountain? If yes, do you know of one?

Also, do you want me to add the HRC event? It looks like I can import all but
BibbidyBobbidyBoo and adamspest. So you didn't have to do all the updates, we could make it website registration, then you'd only have to pull the guest count a few days early to make the reservation.

Thanks,
Glenn
What?
You can't import me in what?
LOL

Only three weeks next Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
See you all then.. Jane & Dave.
What awesome info.
rum at Morrisons- check! ;)
(and other stuff ofcourse hehe)

All this talking about the winner for bringing the most luggage- what about winning for bringing the least?
I'm HOPING we can manage to pack only 5 carryons- and bringing some other stuff (mostly for our stay in Barcelona but things that we can live without if they happen to lose our luggage... although if they do I'm gonna be upset that we're missing one piece to our matching luggage sets x5 -and they are Mickey luggage ofcourse LOL)
I'm still not sure how I'm gonna make this happen.
I always pack far too much- I think I'm packing smart but we always end up with a ton of stuff we didn't wear, didn't use, didn't need. This is going to be a real test for me. We usually travel with one checked luggage and one carryon (and one personal item as well) for each of us.... cramming it all down into 5 carryons is gonna be a challenge, especially for such a long trip. But I'm gonna try. I'd rather take less and wash clothes during the trip than pack checked luggage and risk any of it being lost.
So yeah, if I'm successful in this endeavor... expect to see us wearing the same things atleast twice each. And you'll probably find me in the laundry room atleast a few times during the trip but I don't mind.... :)

What is everyone doing in St. Maarten?
Just curious..... fam is still doing the scuba dive without me. I need to find something to do. Either by myself or with youngest DD (she was never going to dive -she was going to stay on the ship during this excursion) but it probably needs to be something either booked with DCL or something I'd be going on that other DIS'ers are also doing- or else I just wouldn't feel good about doing it on my on or on my own with dd. I'm weird that way. I'm sooo independent until I'm on foreign soil and then I'm all worrywart extraordinaire. I did an excursion once -by myself with the three kids while DH went scuba diving- and I wasn't comfortable with it.... it wasn't booked thru DCL though. And it was 3 kids, not one. And they were younger. so maybe I'd be okay this time but goodness I haven't a clue what to do now. All this time had planned on diving with eldest dd, son and DH. sigh :sad1:

And it hard to find clothing:headache: Bottom is 4 top is 10:eek:
I hate it!

Annie:laundy:
That is a difference - does it make finding dresses hard??

My babies were average size, but my daughter's 4 and DIL's 2 were big babies. Our daughters 2nd boy was 11lbs, and she is a small 5''1". He is the skinniest 10 year old you could see now. Her twin girls were 7lb 10 and 7lb 8!!!!! Think of that on a 5'1" person!!!:rotfl2:
Oh my!!! :faint: My three were 9lbs 4; 9lbs 12 and 10lbs 4 - Richard didn't want me to have anymore as they kept getting bigger...

We are off quite soon up to Newcastle to visit Dawn of Bob and Dawn. Bob should have been there and cooking for us, but he found a great excuse in going to the US with work, and making it span out so he couldn't get back in time to see us!!!;):lmao::lmao::lmao: We will also be seeing Jools, their friend, who we have met before, who is also on the cruise but isn't a member here. but now that you mention it- huh what? transfers from the airport to where?

hi

well meant a taxi from the airport to my hotel the day before

from what i am reading about barcelona is not really very good it does not seem like a safe city for tourists and from what friends say to me its not very safe for people by themselves

i passed through there some years ago and it seemed fine compared to some places i have been through ... eastern europe was an experience :scared1::confused: loved it but well it was not relaxing

barcelona seems a bit like Naples, italy ..:sad2: i am part itailian from my dads side and we used to go there alot - did not enoy it as you had to be on your gaurd from scammers all the time... even the cafes scammed tourists... love the italian cities and ruins but would never go back again.

I have never seen the point in going to a place only to have to be on your gaurd all the time - thats not my idea of a holiday .. i go on holiday to get away from stress being a project manager is stressful.. i want fun and R&R

the site linked by someone else on the board about the magic fountain is really good

http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/

its got every hotel and ways to get to them either by taxi or public transport
jason

I gave up...

I could not catch up. Simon kept me busy. I only have time to read the board at night... but I was far too tired.

What did I miss? THANK YOU!

I love Talbots, Chico's, Black/White, Ann Taylor, Columbia Sportswear. Don't worry. If you just hit the Prime and Premium Outlet malls when you get to Orlando you'll hit them all.

I've been to that outlet a couple of times, The problem is I usually have the girls and DH with me, so I have a limited time before kids start whinging and husband starts getting antsy. So I tend to just go in the shops I know.
I will remember all the recommendations this time and branch out into some new shops, I have bought a dress from Black/White in Vegas I think. Thanks :goodvibes

One other interesting thing i was looking through the kids section of the web site (an excellent site:thumbsup2) and noticed the biggest singe age group is the 7 year olds (there is 8 of them) and out of those 3 are called Nick. Also they are the only age group to have a Nick.
Bazaar, the world works in funny ways sometimes!

Home Depot! :thumbsup2
Such a boy! ;)

Oh.....on a brighter side I went shopping today......in my wardrobe!:rotfl: (sounds like Narnia!!)
I can now fit into 5 more pairs of shorts and a pair of cropped cargo trousers.....plus several tops and a dress! :dance3:
That is fantastic news, Good Onya!:thumbsup2

We can bring two cases easily at a higher weight on United than on our Air Berlin which is 1 case each and 1 carry on at a very low weight. I just bit the bullet and paid extra.

Just thought I'd let you know - When we fly on an international itinerary most airlines will honour the larger luggage allowance of the international part of your journey. For example, we fly from home to LA with Qantas, and LA to Orlando with AA, So AA will honour the Qantas baggage allowance of 2 bags each (3 if you are in Qantas Club). Just thought it may be worth looking into for some of you??? :confused3

Love nordstrom shoe department! And I bought an amazing embroidered ballerina quilt for Lucy from Bloomingdale home in Las Veags! Haven't been into Chico's...on the list! :thumbsup2

Beall's, Coldwater Creek outlet, Macy's
Haven't even heard of Beall's? On the list...:thumbsup2

Oh, yeah, I forgot Columbia sportswear, esp. the one at the outlet. I usually hit Beall's outlet on Mondays when those of us over 50's get 15% off. I am going on Monday to get a little leather backpack/purse to bring for excursions.

Have fun shopping tomorrow, looking forward to checking out your new bag :thumbsup2

Please send all your spare pixie dust......
We were spending a beautiful day on the boat, lazing in the sun, boys having a few beers, girls giggling and gossiping, kids fishing until.......Belly caught Holly, yep, Holly ate the fish hook, swallowed it whole.
Lucky Mum was there with her car at the beach so we raced her straight to the 24hr Animal Hospital, Poor baby needs surgery to remove the hook which is in her stomach. So I had to leave my baby at the hospital and come home empty handed.
Waiting at home for the phone call now....waiting......waiting......waiting.....
She should be home tomorrow morning, $2000 later!

Tell me your favourite USA shops....Everyone?????

Oh, we've been to the US sooo often...

Where do we go?!

I LOVE Sketchers, Crocs.
A&F but mostly only to look, because I think it is expensive compared to its quality. AND their sizes are a miracle to me...

Adidas, because it's cheaper than here!!! And we live right to the city of Adidas' headquarter.

Hm... what else...

For food. We love WHOLE FOODS MARKET. Could spend hours there only to look!

Reaching Port Canaveral we always visit Cocoa Beach and Ron Jon.

Makes me proud that you enjoyed Germany, and you listed lots of places in Bavaria... :thumbsup2 And Austria of course.

I have a tip... Next time you visit, come to see my hometown: REGENSBURG.
Maybe not that famous, but not that far from Munich. You won't regret!
