We are not prebooking. We'll just hop in a taxi when we leave the airport. We've had too many issues with pre-booked transportion (losing our reservation, being late, etc.) This way when we are ready, the taxi is ready. There are always a million (maybe a slight exaggeration) licensed taxis waiting at the airport.

Rene

yeah i am just going to get a taxi

just make sure you agree the cost before hand and they are licienced

I know just what you mean, yesterday at the gym, I counted I used 6 different products, none of them makeup, after all the stuff I used in the shower. I was wondering if I think I need this stuff because I'm older and falling a part or because I've believe all the junk I hear on television. With the length of this cruise you can't bring travel size stuff. I'll need a darn suitcase just for this stuff!!
val

Well, I use the shampoo in the stateroom for shampoo and body wash. I like their conditioner too. I use the body butter, although it's not my favorite on my legs and arms. I DO absolutely need mousse and hair gel and hair spray. No two ways around that! And I also need my own face stuff....so there you go! The list gets longer and longer.

Yes, we are planning to take a taxi from the lineup at the Airport.

Congratulations! I can't even imagine wearing a size 4!

Rene

I think I wore a 4 when I WAS 4! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: My mom is 5'1" tall and weighed less than 100lb when she got married. I was the tallest girl in my 6th grade class, and fit into her wedding dress then! By the time I finished growing at age 13, I topped her by 8 inches!

Goodness!!! My mom was 5'3", I'm 5'2" and my daughter is 5'1" - we're bucking the trend... :teeth:

I just finished reading through most of the posts on these two threads for the TA on the Magic. Now I am exhausted and must go to bed!

My mother and I have been booked on this crusie for some time now but, only recently became aware of this thread. We booked on B2B including the Med. portion.

We are really looking forward to meeting everyone and having a great time.

Colleen

Welcome to you and your mom. It's going to be a great cruise!

I've been on flights that have been freezing and others like an oven - you can never tell. Also keep in mind that if you are traveling overnight or on a long flight and are very tired that you might also feel cold (I do when I'm tired). If you are near a door, they can be very cold too. I always travel with a pashmina/shawl - its a pillow, a wrap, keeps out the light if I put it over my head, over my lap if my legs are cold and so on.

Sometimes it can get very chilly on the flights. Remember I am from a warm climate and feel the cold. I usually wear jeans or leggings with a long sleeve top / dress and cardigan or wrap. I wear closed in shoes that are easily removed, that way I can put them on and off when I go to the loo.

It can get quite cold on the plane. I even take my own blanket because my sweater has not been warm enough. This has been the case of most of our flights. BUT, on one flight, our section of the airplane was downright hot! When I walked through the plane to get exercise I realized that most of the plane was cold and our section was HOT. So, the secret is to dress in layers.

Thank you all for the advice. I guess layers are in order and stuff that's easy to get on and off.

My medication bag has got bigger this time too.:headache:

Isn't that the truth?

Anyone else finding this site slow to load at times over the last few days, yet again?
It is beginning to irritate me.

OMGosh, yes!

The suitcase that I have weighs 14 pounds with nothing in it. Yesterday, DD and I went out looking for luggage sets with the 29" suitcase hopefully weighing less then 14 pounds. Then my DH gives me the plastic bags that are space savers so I can pack more into my suitcases. :rotfl2: I need to learn to pack less, not more, since the weight is 50 pounds a bag. Not happening. :rotfl:

We love the rolling duffel bags; they're light and carry a lot.

Dropped from a size 8 to a 4(pants) and found lots of things!:rotfl2:
3 pairs of pants to start with:cool1:

Good for you! I am sooooo jealous.

I got the most thoughtful surprise in the mail that I just have to share with you. I know I've mentioned on here how incredibly sweet Tiffany (Gradysmommy who makes FEs for many of you) is and how disappointed I was when they changed their plans to not go with us on this cruise. She contacted me a little over a month ago saying she bought a lot of lanyard pins on Ebay for her kids to exchange during their next WDW adventure in September. In the lot, there was a buckeye nut Mickey Ears pin. She said as soon as she saw it, she knew where to send it. :) She sent me a picture of it, and I was just so excited! I've never seen anything like it before! Wasn't that nice?!!

So a large envelope comes out of my mailbox from her today. Now why in the world would she put this little pin in a large padded envelope? I got inside, opened it up, and literally started crying.
happy_tears.gif
She made me a buckeye pillow case for the cruise for autographs. O.M.G.! :goodvibes What a treasure that is! Little did she know that I still hadn't decided on what I was taking to have autographed, either. I had a difficult day yesterday, and this little "hug" was just what I needed. Soooo sweet and thoughtful that Tiffany is! :lovestruc

What a lovely thing for her to do!

Yesterday we went on a daytrip to Canterbury. Had a tasty lunch of pies and pasties. We then went to the Canterbury Cathedral, which is amazing.

Today we went on a daytrip to Cambridge. It's been donkey years since we've been there, and there are so many new shopping centers and stores. The highlight was an outdoor performance of Twelfth Night.

Woody

Sounds like you're having a terrific trip so far. Hope the rest goes well, too.

I am leaving most everything behind except for the basics. I figure I can do without most of it for 2-3 weeks without doing any harm. Of course, I will be taking medicine, etc. that must be taken. I'm not completely crazy. :lmao:

Rene

That's what I'm trying to do, too. I'm trying to tell myself that I can live without my Clarisonic for 2 weeks, and my special shampoo, etc.

What a lovely and thoughtful gesture!! I am sorry to miss the opportunity of meeting her on this cruise.

Having been shamed into starting on the packing by all you organised cruisers.....tonight had to be the night! Bob gone to work. Blinds well drawn. Into the cupboards...
The SWIMSUIT try on!!!!!:scared1::eek::scared1::eek::scared1::eek:
Needed an adult beverage to get over it :lmao:
Once faced..have managed to find a one piece swimsuit and a two piece I am reasonably happy with; of sufficient fit, modesty and coverage as befits a geezer in training :thumbsup2

Now...on to the shorts.....
I feel I am rather behind here...but am working on it :cool1:
Lyn

John is packing electronic gear this weekend and counting plugs!!

I have bought a couple of the Miraclesuits as I like they way they fit. No way am I ever going to look great in a bathing suit but it helps to have a "little" help!!

Personally, I think I look the best in my full body wet suit!!

I've been trying to explain to Mark that I can't take just 2 pairs of trousers, 2 swim cossies etc but how on earth do I know how I'll feel that day and know what I'll fancy wearing?:confused3:rotfl2:
:littleangel:

John would be happy in flip flops or sandals, a tee shirt and swim shorts for the whole cruise. TWO PAIR!! One to wear, and one to wash!!

sounds lke us too Kaz...my Mum's 5'7", I'm 5'4" and Becky is 5' 1".....:rolleyes1

:goodvibes personally, it would take more than a miracle to make me look good in a swimsuit!:rotfl2:

(and I meant to say thank you for your kind concern over Becky....look forward to seeing you soon too)

You sound like you are having a wonderful trip!! We haven't been to Canterbury Cathedral but look forward to seeing it someday.

DH John has lectured at Cambridge a few times. We also have a close friend who lives there. It is a wonderful place to visit.

Please keep us posted on your travels. I love to heard about all the things you are doing
.

Thanks for reminding me. I have 2 timeshare weeks I need to use before May 2011. I guess I better see what's available.

I hope that the Barcelona port has improved. In 2007 they made me fill out all the forms again, even though I had done it online and had my signature page. They actually made everyone fill out the forms and wouldn't let you proceed to a CM until you did.

They had tables with forms to fill out before you got to the check in desks when we did our first Med cruise and they had somebody standing where you joined the line. They checked that you had everything you needed and then directed you either to the table with the forms or to the check in desks. I had everything done online and printed out and they send us to the line for the check in desks.

Do keep looking, you never know if there will be deals. It isn't as full as our last one. It really is worth it if you could manage it. Perhaps share with someone? Flights could be expensive. We haven't booked ours yet, hoping for a Sept/Oct sale as in previous years, but Virgin don't appear to have problems with folk not booking with BA!!! So, no need for a sale.:sad2:

I just had a bit of a play around with flights and managed to find flights from Manchester to Orlando on 5th January 2011 and back from Los Angeles to Manchester via London with Virgin Atlantic (I assume the domestic flight is BMI) on 21st January for GBP533 per person. I think this is very fair.

I always do it at "the last supper" for our wait staff and the last morning for the room steward.

I've noticed (mainly on other cruise lines) that the only time I see the head waiter for the entire cruise is when he comes around during that last evening meal to collect his envelope! Personally, while I generally tip the wait staff and room stewards extra, I don't feel obligated to tip the head waiter unless he (or she, of course) does something extra for us. They do get paid pretty well, unlike the others who depend on the tips.

However, there was one head waiter (Lloyd) on the Disney Magic who was able to fix our reservations that had been messed up by our TA; got us a really good table and a GREAT wait staff; came by every evening to check on how we were doing; and generally went above and beyond. We had all four DDs on that cruise, two teens and two in the kids' clubs - DW and I went to Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay for a couple of hours. We made our way back to Cookie's Bar-B-Q for lunch and to see how DDs were doing. We couldn't find them. We ran into Lloyd, who told us (paraphrasing) "Shawna just finished lunch with her friend Jane and they went to the hideout, Danielle was here about a half hour ago with Mike, Dan, and John and they went back to the teen beach, Kristen came by with Suzy (and, as usual, didn't eat very much) and then went to the family beach with Sue and her parents, and Kimberly came by with her club and she's over at Monstro Point." Lloyd got a large tip!

I actually made the opposite experience. On the first three cruises we had fantastic head servers (with the one on our second cruise being out of this world) and they came buy every evening apart from the last evening, when they were nowhere to be seen. The one on the first cruise I actually had to chase clear across the dining room to give him his tip envelope. The only exception was the last cruise. Our server and assistant server were great, but the head server was about as much use as a chocolate tea pot, but he made up for the whole cruise by hovering with intend pretty much for the whole meal on the last evening :rolleyes2:furious:

I've seen quite a few reports of this in the past couple of days. I'm not surprised with the wonderful discounts they were giving to Military persons and travel agents. I wouldn't worry about it being full though. Although the cabins may be sold out, I'm willing to bet that a significant portion of those cabins will not have families with children in them, so we'll be far from full capacity!

Thinking along those lines....I LOVE Serenity Bay, but I'm thinking it will be more crowded than usual for our voyage. I'm thinking it may be a good time to hit the Family Beach and Pelican Plunge with less crowding than they usually have. :thumbsup2 A girl can hope, right?! Bring on the Drink of the Day!
drink-smiley_normal.GIF

YEAH!!!!! That's exceptionally great news!

This cruise has been very heavily advertised on various travel industry discount websites until last week, but it is now no longer listed on any of them.

That is a though about the Family Beach being emptier than usual. We normally spend pretty much all of our time at Serenity Bay. I really want to try out Pelican Plunge this time round and wondered how I can fit both this and Serenity Bay in given the short time we have on the island. If Family Beach is not too crowded, then I will just say there.

Oh, don't worry I know. We have been to America loads of times, I was in La and Las Vegas in February this year even! I try not to shop much here in OZ, (I said TRY, lol) It is so expensive. So when I get there my DH knows to stand back and let me go. I love Coach, J Crew, Banana, Tory Burch shoes, Gap, Macy's, Ross, Marshalls, Gymboree, Bath & Bodyworks, Tiffany (oooh Tiffany), I know bazaar selection there. You know when you go to another country and don't really know where to go, well those were just the recommended shops from my friend who used to live in Texas, So any others I need to check out? Tell me your favourite USA shops....Everyone?????

I have always had a lot of trouble finding clothes that fit in the USA. Considering that there is a higher proportion of people that wear plus sizes than in Europe, there is a distinct shortage of shops that cater for this. I love Bath and Bodyworks, Yankee Candle and Torrid.

I searched back through part 8 of this meet thread, and found that 7 people had expressed interest in doing yoga. As i recall, the "hidden deck" at 7 aft is more than big enough for that many, and more, so I think we should try to make this work. Cynthia (elderfam) has volunteered to lead, and I can lead in a pinch (I'd call myself an "experienced beginner"). As well, the professional fitness people on board (as I recall) offer yoga sessions every 2-3 days, although their sessions tend to be short, only about 30 minutes.

Here are the names of the people who have expressed interest in yoga that I could find in the thread:

su_kraft
Custard tart
elderfam + husband
Hoagie pie
tink,too
Futurist

For others who haven't done yoga and are curious, it's a wonderful way to increase your flexibility, strengthen core muscles, and help you stay active and healthy as you age. There's a yogic saying that "You're as young as your spine", and yoga is all about the spine and breathing. I do it once a week as a counterpoint to walking and weight lifting (not at the same time!) the rest of the week, and always feel both relaxed and energized afterwards. Try it, you might like it! As Cynthia has said, we won't be doing super-bendy stuff. And if there's a qualified instructor or an experienced yogi or yogini in our midst - please step forward and help us! It doesn't have to be every day, even just once or twice would be helpful.

Should we ask gismo (Sarah) to add yoga, deck 7 aft ("secret deck") at 7:30 a.m. on sea days to the DIS navigator?

Namaste, and See You Real Soon! :flower3:
Richard

Could you count us in as well please, dolphingirl47 and DH of dolphingirl47 (Corinna and Graham)

That is such a thoughtful gift. She is so talented. I have two Fish Extenders that she made and I just ordered another one for our vow renewal cruise. I also bought a lovely pillow case from her last year, which arrived on the day we left for the cruise, went all the way on the ship and back again and I forgot to have it signed. I took it again on the Med cruise and that time I actually remembered to have it signed. I bought a new pillow case from her for this cruise.

I agree with you in general but we have a specific tour we must meet so we want to be sure to be met at a certain time. I have also confirmed the taxi arrangement with the hotel concierge who is aware we are expecting the taxi service at a particular time. My thought is that with the high recommendations this taxi service had on the boards and the recommendation of the hotel concierge, I am pretty safe.
