I've never flown internationally. Do you all really suggest long pants and layers for the flight? Does it get that cold on the plane? (I remember the icky sock discussion, so I'm bringing socks for sure.)

I've been on flights that have been freezing and others like an oven - you can never tell. Also keep in mind that if you are traveling overnight or on a long flight and are very tired that you might also feel cold (I do when I'm tired). If you are near a door, they can be very cold too. I always travel with a pashmina/shawl - its a pillow, a wrap, keeps out the light if I put it over my head, over my lap if my legs are cold and so on.

I just finished reading through most of the posts on these two threads for the TA on the Magic. Now I am exhausted and must go to bed!

Welcome and be sure to check out the first couple of pages of the thread for onboard activities.

Hello all....just wanted to let you know that DD is home from the hospital....she got sprung this afternoon.....she has made remarkable progress and thanks to all for the pixie dust and prayers....now all she has to do is fill 5 perscriptions and keep taking the medication.....Thanks again all....you have been very kind!

Excellent news. I'm sure she will soon be back to her normal healthy self with the extra love and care at home.

I think you've done very well with your list, Hayley, especially for being a first time cruiser!

I'm not typically THIS organized when it comes to outfits, but I always have a tendency to overpack. Therefore, I have laid it all out a spreadsheet with each column being a day. On the left are sections for tops, bottoms, dresses, etc. I have marked an "x" that shows what I may desire (or need depending on certain events) to wear during the day and for dinner for each column (day). I'm trying to interchange tops and bottoms as well as space it out until I get a laundry load done somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean to repeat use again. :laundy:

Seriously....I have OCP, but this is much more "particular" (to keep it G-rated) than I have ever been for packing apparel! Go ahead and laugh. It's okay. Really! I know that I'm still over-packing, especially on tops! So this is my list after my first level of effort to reduce for 18 days' worth of dressing. There's still some therapy I need to face!

Bottoms:
3 pairs of shorts
3 pairs of capris
1 casual skirt

Dresses:
2 formal dresses
1 semi-formal dress
2 casual dinner dresses with crocheted sweater boleros

Swimwear:
2 swimsuits
1 cover-up
pool sandals
water shoes (for the Baths in Tortola and Serenity Bay, which is rather rocky)

Tops (eek!):
2 cardigans
4 T-shirts (includes our WBTA Logo and MMC t-shirts)
7 blouses (includes Champagne Girls)
1 Ohio State University (American) Football Jersey (for Lifestyle photo)

Mentionables (well, with this group anyways!):
4 bras (light, dark, and two strapless)
1 nightgown
1 pajama set
2 pairs of socks
Spanx and panties

Costumes:
pirate costume (another shirt, skirt, and pair of boots)
villain costume (another pair of capris...I think anyways)

Footwear (this one is hard for me to keep the number low!):
tennis shoes
semi-dressy sandals
casual sandals
2 pairs of dressy heels

:blush::blush: I have sooooooo much more than this. Oh dear.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: at 'mentionables'

We aren't beach people either. Castaway Cay is about as much as I can tolerate. I detest sand with a passion :lmao: We also aren't shoppers but like museums and just exploring places on foot.

Tortola - I found a short self guided walking tour that we will do - happy to post info for anyone interested or act as the group tour guide :rotfl2:

We find this very awkward and uncomfortable - tipping is not in our culture and while we do as we understand its the appropriate thing to do, I just hate doing it as it feels like I'm treating these people as less beings and paying to be waited on. I much prefer how they did it on the Princess cruises we've done where they just charge $10 to your onboard account and you can modify this if you wish.

We aren't beach people either. We do like getting off at Castaway Cay, but are usually back onboard straight after lunch. I'm not sure we will even bother on this cruise with the time being so short, but then again, it is a lovely place for a walk. Last September we almost had a fight with a couple of ladies over the beach chairs!!!:rotfl2:

I would love the info on the self guided tour in Tortola please. We did the Island Tour last time, which I recommend, but there is nothing we want to do excursion wise this time.

I think we are similar regarding the tipping in that we don't tip over much here though do more so these days. I always find it awkward, and I think you have hit the nail on the head with your reasoning. I think I posted earlier that the Spaniards don't expect tips at all, but they must love the Americans as they tip anyway, wherever they are!!! I just find the whole tipping thing odd to be honest, and that is a whole different thread, but I have to say I go with the customs of the country quite happily(before you all shout at me;))

Fantastic news :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

OK, I am a first time cruiser so my feedback may not be very valuable. But I am struggling with packing as well. The girls are easy as they can layer tights and cardigans with their dresses.
For me I have decided on 2 pairs shorts, 2 capri's (one denim), 1 pair long cargo type pants, 1 pair jeans, denim skirt, 2 pairs leggings, multiple T's and tops, 2 cardigans, 2 scarves (I love scarves), 1 wrap, 4 dinner dresses, formal dress, swimwear and cover ups. Oh and crocs, haviana's, gold sandals, silver sandals and ballet flats.Oh, and of course my spanx, :lmao:. I think that's it, hope that helps?
I'd like others to post exactly what they are taking as I did, I am still very unsure and would like to see what the seasoned cruisers take....please!

Clothing ..... this is what I plan to take:

Evenings

Pirate costume
2 x formal dresses
1 x semi formal dress / Palo dress
1 x villains dress
2 x casual maxi dresses
3 x casual midlength dresses
2 x wraps
3 x shrugs ( also wear with day dresses / skirts etc )

Daywear / ship & port

skirts x 3
tops to wear with skirts x 6
white cropped combats x 1
white linen pants
day dresses x 3
exercise shorts
t - shirts x 5
swim costumes x 2
beach wrap x 2

shoes

trainers x 1
formal sandals x 1
silver wedges
black wedges ( still to find )
flat sandals

travelling ... undecided.

I think thats it, not mentioning the mentionables, jewellery, non-clothing items which I am taking.

Yesterday my big pink bag arrived and I packed everything from my suitcase into the bag and where the suitcase weighed 19kg, the bag weighs 15kg with the same stuff in it. So 4 kg saved just by changing case into bag. :thumbsup2

Tonight I am working my last night shift before we leave for Barcelona ... just can't wait to get that out of the way. Then I only have 9 working shifts until we leave !!!!

Good morning everyone :goodvibes:goodvibes

Just thought you might like to know that .......

WE NOW HAVE ONLY 4 WEEKS UNTIL WE BOARD THE DISNEY MAGIC !!!!!!

:woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay::woohoo::yay:

:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

I know some of you have already sent me a declaration of interest, but just in case there is anyone out there who would like to partake in our Disney Magic Scavenger Hunt, could you please send me a PM with your name, number of copies and your room number .... just so I have a vague idea of how many copies to bring. I will bring these to the DIS meet on the first day and for those who don't make the meet I will drop it off in your FE / Fish on the first sea day.

The scavenger hunt will involve finding things out about the Magic, photographing items and finding items and should be a lot of fun. Participants should hand in their completed forms and show us their photos and items collected on the last sea day in the morning, before the Farewell Lunch, as that is when we will be giving out the prizes. Location and time to be finalised for dropping off the sheets etc.

So far I have the following people on the list ( could you please confirm how many copies you will need ie. if you are doing it as individuals or together. Thanks.

Hello from London. We saw Billy Elliot - The Musical, which was fantastic. Good story lines, music, and dancing.

Woody

And i would love to do the Adventures by Disney Peru - that may be the year after if i can juggle our points well.

Did that August 2009. OMG - it is the best thing. Way cooler than DCL (:scared1: - Did I just type that? ) OK - they are both cool but since this was a new experience and was on my original, unaltered bucket list - I have to say - one of the best highlights of my life. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I got some of those reserve batteries that plug onto the bottom for like $10 each on meritline.com -- and they work! I've already tested them out! :) And they shipped fast everytime I've ordered from them.
Just thought I'd mention that in case someone just wants the reserve battery pack and wants it cheap as possible yet works.. or can't get to a best buy or something. :)

Cool! Thanks for the info. I'm going to look. :thumbsup2

20th I think. See, I'm not even excited enough to memorize the date. :lmao::rotfl: Now ask when we go on TA and I will give you blow by blow of the trip details!! :lmao: Yes, our friends are sick of hearing about it! :rotfl::rotfl2:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 July 19th - 26th or something like that? ;) I usually try and sail around my birthday. Which coincidentally, this cruise would hit upon.

Sometimes it can get very chilly on the flights. Remember I am from a warm climate and feel the cold. I usually wear jeans or leggings with a long sleeve top / dress and cardigan or wrap. I wear closed in shoes that are easily removed, that way I can put them on and off when I go to the loo. :thumbsup2

My mother and I have been booked on this crusie for some time now but, only recently became aware of this thread. We booked on B2B including the Med. portion.

:welcome:

Wow! What a welcome. Let's see if I can remember all the questions and comments from Part 8:

We look forward to meeting you in person on the Magic! I have been busily making homemade candy to share with you for as long as it lasts!
We seem to be getting good at Welcomes, lot's of last minute travellers joining us lately, the more the merrier!
You'll be very popular with candy and this group! ;)

Every time I read about someone with dental issues, I thought, "Man, I hope I dont have something go wrong before or during the cruise. I Hate the dentist !"
I spoke too darn soon. Dental appointment is for Tuesday morning!

Oh No, Good Luck at the dentist. :goodvibes

A sweater or light jacket does come in handy for long flights. Sometimes it is hard to block or shut off the air vent on the plane, and when you're lying down to sleep, it has to be really bad to make me stand back up to adjust the air vent. I don't know if anyone else does this, but I'll put my jacket or sweater on backwards while sitting in my seat, so it's covering my arms and front, but not adding extra bulk or heat between me and the seat.
:rotfl2:I do that cardigan / jacket trick too, keeps the girls warm too! :rotfl2:
Editing - that sounds a bit rude, I meant I do it to the girls, as in my daughters. I turn round their jackets before they go to sleep to keep them warm around the neck and ears.

Thanks for your list Sarah....I think I need another dress, preferably a maxi.
The pink bags was a good idea, now you have a few more kg's of room for essential shoes and girls stuff :thumbsup2

What I was really worrying about was having no weight allowance for buying gifts and stuff when on the cruise and at WDW ..... now I have a few spare kgs for coming home .... I am sure my abandoned kids won't be expecting me to come home empty-handed :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'm soooo glad to hear other people aren't beach people either. I really, really, really, hate the sand in your shorts bit (and I'm not talking about the Red Robin drink) I may choose to sleep in that day.

Paula? Add another person for the info on the self-guided tour in Tortola. Haven't figured out what to do with DD and may have to cancel my tour there. Oh well, I'm always up for exploring.

So true, we have gone away without the kids before, when we get home they just tear into our luggage looking for their gifts!
We have 2 empty suitcases, actually 3 by the time we give out our FE's, Bella's birthday candy bags, chocolate swap and various gifts. :cool1:
Yay, USA shopping, here I come :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I think I am going to win in the who takes the most category. Is there a prize?

I would like some black wedges too, but it seems at the moment they are going out with all the summer stock.

:welcome: new folks to the thread!!

:woohoo::woohoo: for the tooth fairy

Becky, I hope surgery is painless and gets you better in no time.:goodvibes:

I have a friend who will be doing the 5K in January. He found an iphone app Couch to 5K or something like that. It eases you into running. Laura (eeyorelover) is also doing the program (but not the WDW 5K) so she could tell you about it.
Thanks! I have the app,but my doctor won't give me the okay to start walking until next month..:goodvibes

HI Steffy,

Yes, the app we got was called C25K. I downloaded it to my iPhone and it also works on an iTouch. I did however, find out that you can order it online also. If you haven't already looked into it - pm me if you want. I am on week 7 of 9 and may or may not finish just before I leave on the 1st. It is a good program. I hadn't run in over 27 years and swore up and down that I couldn't do it. It started me off slow (did it with a bunch of friends and we are within 1 day of each other) with the help of my friends, we are supporting each other. I started out literally not being able to run for 1 minute intervals and now I'm up to 25 minutes. Next Monday I'll be running for 28 min straight.

:teeth: I invited DH to start with me on the first day, I got laughed at by him, DD and DS. Tonight at dinner, we were discussing my son and how I beat I was when DH asked me how I was doing at the running. I mentioned that I had done 25 min today and he triple looked at me. He asked me 3 times - you ran, like literally for 25 min straight? :scared1: He couldn't believe me. He then said, wow - that means your in shape then? :lmao: Um, round is a shape. And hopefully, I'm getting there. Need about another 1/2 mile to complete the 5K.
That is encouraging! Thanks for sharing.

Hi all,

With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing. In part I wasn't sure if everyone would want to do this, so I'd like to get feedback before I complete it.

The idea is that we could create a list of all the events (room tour, champagne girls, drink tastings, etc.) and DCL excursions, then people could enroll in the events in which they are participating, and that way we could all see what each others are doing, as well as getting head counts and such. I thought it would be nice if you are going on an excursion to know what friendly faces to look for.

Like anything else, the key is participation, if most people would not want to participate, it wouldn't be worth the effort.

The way I have the registration working is that you would login just like for updating the rollcall, but now have an option to edit events.

event_login.jpg

Once you click on the 'Event' link, you would see a list of events. The list is sorted first by events you are attending, then chronological. By clicking on a single event, you would see details below.

event_list.jpg

You would then click on the 'Edit' button, and from there can enroll in the event, as well as select the members and number of your party attending. By default these will initially appear with all stateroom members attending.

event_edit.jpg

I'd like to get feedback to see if people would be interested in doing this. Right now only the sign-up part is complete, but I could have the list of events and event detail pages completed pretty quickly.

Please feel free to play around, but the data is just test data, and will be deleted if/when we set up all the events/excursions.

Glenn
