Low 70s is really warm for us Brits so I was planning on taking skirts and tops and dresses for the daytime ... with cardies / shrugs in case of chilly winds.
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Low 70's can feel quite cool to us Floridians, I'm really looking forward to it....the Baltics were TOO cold!

Unless you have already paid Bernard for the tour, you can cancel. Some of the others who have expressed interest in a private tour have also booked with Bernard. The cost would only be a little higher, but we are assured of a van with no more than 12 people. Additionally we will be getting drinks through out the day. We have a little more freedom to choose where we want to go. Even if you go to Orient Beach, you do not have to parasail. That is just one many of the activities available at Orient Beach. Dawn Beach is fairly undeveloped when compared with Orient Beach. It is quieter and less crowded. The bonus is great snorkeling. Sunning and swimming are available at both beaches. PM me if you are interested in either tour option.

What are the food options for this tour? I'm considering it. I'm assuming that drinks include non-alcoholic beverages and water, yes?

I just checked the DCL website, and the only staterooms they're showing as available are Category 8 - and even those are only GTY! I guess we're going to be pretty close to full, folks! We'd better not have to pick up any shipwrecks.

Four weeks tomorrow, y'all!

See You Real Soon!
Richard

How do you get to the cable car from the ship? How much will it cost? Shall we all follow you guys?

I could make a Disney sign for you like for the Madeira tour that says "Follow Michael to St. Michaels...

Sorry I am so bad but couldn't resist. Mea Culpa :worship:

However, it was a serious question about how do we get to the cable car and how much will it cost.

We simply walk to the coach park (about 1/2 mile) and catch the #4 bus to the cable car station. I think it's 65 cents one way or 90 cents return (Euro cents). I don't plan to take the cable car back down, so I'll be getting the one-way ticket. Here's a Google Earth image:

When exactly is the appropriate time by the way :confused3 the last evening or the last morning ??

I always do it at "the last supper" for our wait staff and the last morning for the room steward.

I've noticed (mainly on other cruise lines) that the only time I see the head waiter for the entire cruise is when he comes around during that last evening meal to collect his envelope! Personally, while I generally tip the wait staff and room stewards extra, I don't feel obligated to tip the head waiter unless he (or she, of course) does something extra for us. They do get paid pretty well, unlike the others who depend on the tips.

However, there was one head waiter (Lloyd) on the Disney Magic who was able to fix our reservations that had been messed up by our TA; got us a really good table and a GREAT wait staff; came by every evening to check on how we were doing; and generally went above and beyond. We had all four DDs on that cruise, two teens and two in the kids' clubs - DW and I went to Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay for a couple of hours. We made our way back to Cookie's Bar-B-Q for lunch and to see how DDs were doing. We couldn't find them. We ran into Lloyd, who told us (paraphrasing) "Shawna just finished lunch with her friend Jane and they went to the hideout, Danielle was here about a half hour ago with Mike, Dan, and John and they went back to the teen beach, Kristen came by with Suzy (and, as usual, didn't eat very much) and then went to the family beach with Sue and her parents, and Kimberly came by with her club and she's over at Monstro Point." Lloyd got a large tip!

They are calling him Samuel, he was 6lb 9oz and has lots of black hair :)

Wonderful name!!! Tho' I am biased - my lovely youngest son is called Samuel... :lovestruc

Made ya look, didn't I ladies? This comes from the friend in me, not the Dooney I-gotta-have-it-competitor in me, btw! With the combination of us being the last sailing from Europe and the last sailing before dry dock, do you think that they will intentionally reduce their inventory of gifts, more specifically the D&B purses? I can just see them cutting down on their last inventory shipments to Europe.

I've seen quite a few reports of this in the past couple of days. I'm not surprised with the wonderful discounts they were giving to Military persons and travel agents. I wouldn't worry about it being full though. Although the cabins may be sold out, I'm willing to bet that a significant portion of those cabins will not have families with children in them, so we'll be far from full capacity!

Thinking along those lines....I LOVE Serenity Bay, but I'm thinking it will be more crowded than usual for our voyage. I'm thinking it may be a good time to hit the Family Beach and Pelican Plunge with less crowding than they usually have. :thumbsup2 A girl can hope, right?! Bring on the Drink of the Day!

YEAH!!!!! That's exceptionally great news!

For those of us that cruise on points and are concerned about this new "change" it is really not new. DCL only releases a certain amount of staterooms for DVC except for the member cruise, of course. It is the same as when you can't book a DVC resort room on points but can make a cash ressie for the same room/resort. Just my two cents....

soooo.. what kind of clothes are people packing (for daily wear- I don't mean dinners) for this cruise? I mentioned it previously but I'm really curious what the majority are planning on wearing. I was in normal cruise mode thinking shorts and maybe capris, mostly wearing flipflops, never needed a jacket or sweater or anything on previous cruises, etc.- but then I see Barcelona (we'll be there 3 days) is low 70's that time of year.. and that's kinda chilly for us Texans. Will it be that cold or colder most of the cruise as well? I really need some help in what to pack....... pretty please?

OK, I am a first time cruiser so my feedback may not be very valuable. But I am struggling with packing as well. The girls are easy as they can layer tights and cardigans with their dresses.
For me I have decided on 2 pairs shorts, 2 capri's (one denim), 1 pair long cargo type pants, 1 pair jeans, denim skirt, 2 pairs leggings, multiple T's and tops, 2 cardigans, 2 scarves (I love scarves), 1 wrap, 4 dinner dresses, formal dress, swimwear and cover ups. Oh and crocs, haviana's, gold sandals, silver sandals and ballet flats.Oh, and of course my spanx, :lmao:. I think that's it, hope that helps?
I'd like others to post exactly what they are taking as I did, I am still very unsure and would like to see what the seasoned cruisers take....please!

My DD Lilian lost her first tooth today. She is very excited. :cheer2:
My baby is growing up.:goodvibes :sad1::yay:

Oh, I know that feeling, excitement and sadness all at once. I keep all my girls teeth in a jar with a note stating the date they lost them. They also draw tiny pictures for the tooth fairy sometimes, so I pop them in the jar too. :thumbsup2

I was talking to my hubby (glenn) about the survey's and he said why do they not have resort guests fill out surveys? The cruise staff works 4 times as hard. He said he would take all the different nationalities on the cruise over the USA staff.
But I must say some of the suggestions I have written them have been added on the ship. So I know they do listen.
You have very valid points, and I totally agree with your suggestions. I know the whole air saga was a nightmare for you. I hope they listen to your concerns. :flower3:
Also, Noel is a legend, she is so helpful with everything. :worship:

I am going off to stay with my daughter, for couple of weeks from tomorrow, but will have my little notebook and will try to look in when I can. Hopefully I wont miss anything.
When I get back, it will be time to start my packing and get stressed, doing everything in a last minute mad rush !!.

Enjoy your stay with your daughter and new grandson. Please do post pics when you can work it out (it took me ages, not very tach savvy).

Hi all,

With all the talk of excursions of late, last night I was playing around with something I started a month ago, but never got around to completing. In part I wasn't sure if everyone would want to do this, so I'd like to get feedback before I complete it.

The idea is that we could create a list of all the events (room tour, champagne girls, drink tastings, etc.) and DCL excursions, then people could enroll in the events in which they are participating, and that way we could all see what each others are doing, as well as getting head counts and such. I thought it would be nice if you are going on an excursion to know what friendly faces to look for.

Like anything else, the key is participation, if most people would not want to participate, it wouldn't be worth the effort.

The way I have the registration working is that you would login just like for updating the rollcall, but now have an option to edit events.

event_login.jpg

Once you click on the 'Event' link, you would see a list of events. The list is sorted first by events you are attending, then chronological. By clicking on a single event, you would see details below.

event_list.jpg

You would then click on the 'Edit' button, and from there can enroll in the event, as well as select the members and number of your party attending. By default these will initially appear with all stateroom members attending.

event_edit.jpg

I'd like to get feedback to see if people would be interested in doing this. Right now only the sign-up part is complete, but I could have the list of events and event detail pages completed pretty quickly.

Please feel free to play around, but the data is just test data, and will be deleted if/when we set up all the events/excursions.

Glenn

If they cut back on the inventory of the purses, I think there are going to be some very disappointed people onboard. (myself included). Let's cross our fingers and hope they don't.

I think you've done very well with your list, Hayley, especially for being a first time cruiser!

I'm not typically THIS organized when it comes to outfits, but I always have a tendency to overpack. Therefore, I have laid it all out a spreadsheet with each column being a day. On the left are sections for tops, bottoms, dresses, etc. I have marked an "x" that shows what I may desire (or need depending on certain events) to wear during the day and for dinner for each column (day). I'm trying to interchange tops and bottoms as well as space it out until I get a laundry load done somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean to repeat use again. :laundy:

Seriously....I have OCP, but this is much more "particular" (to keep it G-rated) than I have ever been for packing apparel! Go ahead and laugh. It's okay. Really! I know that I'm still over-packing, especially on tops! So this is my list after my first level of effort to reduce for 18 days' worth of dressing. There's still some therapy I need to face!

Bottoms:
3 pairs of shorts
3 pairs of capris
1 casual skirt

Dresses:
2 formal dresses
1 semi-formal dress
2 casual dinner dresses with crocheted sweater boleros

Swimwear:
2 swimsuits
1 cover-up
pool sandals
water shoes (for the Baths in Tortola and Serenity Bay, which is rather rocky)

Tops (eek!):
2 cardigans
4 T-shirts (includes our WBTA Logo and MMC t-shirts)
7 blouses (includes Champagne Girls)
1 Ohio State University (American) Football Jersey (for Lifestyle photo)

Mentionables (well, with this group anyways!):
4 bras (light, dark, and two strapless)
1 nightgown
1 pajama set
2 pairs of socks
Spanx and panties

Costumes:
pirate costume (another shirt, skirt, and pair of boots)
villain costume (another pair of capris...I think anyways)

Footwear (this one is hard for me to keep the number low!):
tennis shoes
semi-dressy sandals
casual sandals
2 pairs of dressy heels

Lloyd really did earn his tip! :thumbsup2

I love your 'mentionables' list! :lmao:
I see you don't have any long pants, are you expecting it to be a little chilly in Europe or not? If I could ditch my jeans that is a big chunk of weight. :)
OMG, Nearly forgot PJ's....And I am organising the PJ Breakfast, Arghh!
See, this is why I need your list to prompt my leaky brain :goodvibes

I'm glad it helped. Others please chime-in!

I've been watching the Weather plug-in on my Yahoo IM window, and to me, it's not bad. For someone used to a very hot climate, I can see they would be cool. For instance, right now it's 03:00 in Barcelona and 73F/23C degrees. I'm sure that will drop a little in the next 4 weeks, but still, I'll be just fine with capris during the day with an added cardigan in the evening, so I have already eliminated jeans or any other longer pants from my standard packing list.
