Ok, I have to catch up in blocks!!!switzerland was AMAZIng, everybody should see the alps, just once, glad to be home though! to beagles and own bed!
my butt and legs are black and blue, it is not a good look!
Just got back from taking Candida to the airport in Hamilton. Unfortunately, she is not on a vacation or work related trip. My step dad has been up and down with his health for awhile now. He has been bouncing in and out of the hospital for just over a month now. Last week he had to be taken back in. When he commented to the doctor that he was planning on doing something in a month the doctor replied " You won't be alive that long". So, my step dad decided to check himself out and in his words, "Die at home"

Since, Candida doesn't work she decided she would head to North Dakota to help out my mom. Not sure how long she'll be there, for my mom's sake I hope it is awhile, for my sake I hope it is not long.

Thanks for listening,
Jon
Jon, its so horrible, I feel bad for posting before getting to end of the thread, I hope your all ok as you can be :grouphug:
Is anyone thinking of doing the 5k on Castaway Cay? I had trained for it before our October cruise, but never ended up doing it. I'd like to try again for the WB TA.

Krista
MAybe we can ask the powers that be to do a list for the web site, most of the folks that said they would do it seems to have gone??!! or so my list says!
But I will def be doing it!!:cool1:
I looked into booking there- and they did respond rather quickly when I emailed about if they'd allow another child in one of the two rooms we'd have to book (since we're a family of 5- and they said yes... a free extra bed for a child under age 12) but dang..... having to get 2 rooms we can get really nice huge apartments that sleep up to 9 people for less than at Praktik. :(

So I think we're looking into renting an apartment instead. The only thing is that I'm not sure about the "areas" to know which one to pick?

I posted this on another thread- I'll post it here in case anyone here can help me?
sounds like you are sorted, heres a pic of our balcony!

:hug:Oh Jon, I am sorry to read this--what a stressful time for you.

I was on the roll call page and i have to say: Lynne I love the dress you have on in your photo amd Kimberly I love your costume.

How exciting that many people are getting hotels booked. We will not know for a while if we are arriving Friday night or Saturday morning so we cannot book yet. BibbidyBobbidyBoo you absolutely have the right idea with staying in an apartment. I am sorry but I cannot help you with the area you are asking about. We satyed in the gothic quarter last time and felt very safe and had a lovely time. I notice afew people are going to DisneylandParis first. We went lat May for 4 days and I wrote a trip report with photos on our website (linked in my signature) if anyone is interested. We enjoyed it very much; it is quite different than WDW.
Thanks:thumbsup2

Here's a thread dealing with scams and pickpockets in Barcelona.

Woody
Thanks woody, very interseting!
I've been a lurker on disboards for a while, but finally took the plunge and signed on to this thread. DH and I are both geezers. We will be arriving in BCN a week before (Thursday 9/9) the cruise to see the city. I've booked a room at the Pratik Ramblas, so it looks like we will be meeting a lot of fellow cruisers. When we bought the transportation package we were told that if we make our way down to Le Meridien the morning of the cruise, we could use Disney transport to get to the ship. Hope to meet some of you Friday before the cruise.
:cheer2:
:woohoo:hello from sunny scotland:woohoo:
Thank you to our cruise friends for thoughts and prayers. My step dad's health is still failing. Nursing staff are giving him less than two weeks. Again, thank you.

Now to cheer things up a little, how about the Monday question. Which this week is Tuesdays question, but next week we can make it Sundays question then it would balance everything out to Monday.:lmao:

In the unlikely event that we get stranded on a uncharted island, which disney character would you want to be stranded with?

I'll go with Goofy, just because the whole experience would be more light hearted then.
Thats easy, Will Turner(is that alowed?)
Definitely Captain Jack Sparrow ..... he would definitely know where there was some rum hidden and once we decided to get off the island ...... sea turtles mate !!!!!

pirate:pirate:pirate:pirate:
he would be ok also:thumbsup2
Kathy--I think you will like Lufthansa. It is always my first choice going transatlantic (but not their flights operated by United, their own flights).
We enjoyed luftansa
Hi All,

Ending my lurker status and would like to join your thread. We are two friends from California and we arrive on September 14. I'm so excited and can't wait for September!!!

We booked our flight (one-way from San Francisco to Barcelona) for about $700/each through airfare.com. I looked for months on several travel/airline websites and airfare.com was consistently cheaper. And, the fare is much less for those of you who are closer to the East Coast. (i.e. $564 incl. tax with one layover on British Airways from MCO.) The only scary thing is that the fare is non-refundable. You can get travel insurance though. I was a little nervous when I booked it b/c the fares are soooo much cheaper than any other websites and I wondered if there was a catch. But I received confirmation email rightaway and about one week after booking I went directly to the airline's website (American Airlines) and chose my seat for both legs with no problems. (I have a layover in New York.)

:thanks: Thanks for the info re: the Praktik!!!!! I was booked at the Continental Palacete but the Praktik will be about 1/3 less and is still close to everything so I'm now booked at the Praktik. I can use the extra money for all of my KonK Koolers on the ship. :sail:
Hi Kermit, welcome aboard

pirate:
What!! slow down you guys!
I know this is totally off topic, but I had to share a link with everyone.

Last year there was a live webcam of Shibu Inu puppies that was all over the Internet. Well, a new liter was born on Saturday, January 16! Here is the link if you would be interested in seeing some really cute puppies!

http://www.ustream.tv/sfshiba
you just reminded me I have work tom:sad2:
I've been stalking flights from Washington DC to Barcelona, but they've been about $1000 or more for the one way trip, which was the same that DCL wanted, unless I went through a consolidator.

Imagine how excited I was this morning when my fare alert said USAir had dropped the price to $371! ($401 after taxes.) So for $1600, I got our 4 tix, with just one stop in the US just like I wanted! Woo Hoo!!
:thumbsup2
book my airfare today and hotel. $459.00 for direct flight to Barcelona from Philadelphia on us air. We are staying at Praktik. It look like the dis boarder are taking over both hotels, One thing we should look in to is maybe renting a bus to take us to the port instead of us all taking taxis, since both hotels are 6 blocks apart.

:thumbsup2
Well I did it... I booked my flights so I'm now flying direct to Barcelona - 33 hours with brief stops in Sydney, somewhere between Sydney and London (Heathrow) and then onto Barcelona.

Robert is going to go about 10 days earlier and than me and visit with his sister in the UK and he will arrive the day after me in Barcelona.

Mum will also go to the UK a few days before me and to visit her family and then travel on the same flight as Robert to Barcelona.

I have just been looking at accommodation and I like the look of the Praktik Rumbla too so have emailed asking them about a triple room which some of the third party booking sites offer but they don't seem to list them on their booking engine? Odd... might end up with a single and double room in that case.

So what else to do? I have booked my travel insurance, Robert needs to do his once his flights are confirmed (mine are done). Need to modify our DVC booking in the 7 month window and then book the MCO/LAX flight and thats about it... just waiting, waiting, waiting ;)
cool, everybody is sorted!
Booking airfare is so stressful! I have been relying on the person who posted earlier in this thread (I think) that airfares have historically been lowest 8 months out, so I've been planning to buy in January though I've been watching fares since before the booking window opened. I was getting very concerned when I didn't see fares dropping, and had been actively been comparing consolidators when the US Air fares dropped.

Thank you to whoever gave that advice several months ago!

Tell me about it:scared1:
Sarah, I got my cc credited for trans flights, so onle lost 100 each for barcelona flights.

Ok, need to empty case then back for part 2!

Hi ..... if you look in the bottom right of each post you will see a symbol with the " on it ( the middle one). If you click on that symbol on any post you want to quote or reply to, then it will light up orange. Then when you click on reply, the quotes will show up on your reply. Hope that makes sense :rotfl:

Good morning sunny Florida from cold, dreary, rainy Wales. I know where I would rather be.

Just keep posting ......

Thats an interesting question ..... perhaps some of those who did the last transatlantc cruises will be able to enlighten us. I would imagine they would have to have quite a bit new stuff for 14 nights. I just hope they don't have that female ventriloquist we saw on the Magic.

Thanks Sarah! I am learning so much! Appreciate it, cuz at first, i was like :confused3

I had my card re-credited for the TA flight deposit too .... but lost the Edinburgh - Manchester flight money. Hopefully learn from that one .. if something looks to good to be true.... it generally is !!

TA2, dont you just love animals, last week my beagles were digging in the snow for cat poo,I never thought they found any until they vomited it all up over me new rug(which is now old and in the skip) the smell was revolting, eeww, animals!

Fat english gent, welcome aboard!!!!!

Thank you to everyone for their well wishes, thoughts, and prayers over the past week. My DW called this afternoon to tell me that Monty (step dad) had just passed away.

I won't be around much for the next week or so. Flying to Winnipeg, Manitoba then driving to North Dakota. I hope everyone has a good weekend and week to come.

Just have to say that I am both thankful and proud of my DW for spending the time to stay with my mom and help with Monty during his last days.

Now to hopefully convert some of the sadness into cheer.

Why thank you ma'm,some time has passed since we last cruised together, hope your well, tell your Mum we said hello....Oh and we'll see you in 34 weeks.....:thumbsup2
yeahaa

My condolences to you and your family.

My Grandmother's funeral is today. Things have been very hectic with the arrangements and legal things we have had to handle. She lived a long life ans died on my birthday at 95 years old. Yesterday when I was writing the eulogy, so many wonderful memories were coming to mind and I realized that if I had so many wonderful memories there had to be many more people with their own memories and what a wonderful woman she was. I did not realize the true scope of the the woman until she passed away and I sat down to write the eulogy.

Donna
Im sorry Donna, I so sorry, hope it all went ok.
I am a first time poster to this forum and still have a lot to learn. I am cruising on the WB TA cruise on 9/18/10. I already have a reservation and have paid my deposit, but I didn't tell Disney that a member of my travel group is active duty military. I called back to tell them and they said that they are not offering military discounts for this cruise, at least not yet.

Any tips? Should I just keep checking? I was told that even though I already made my reservation, i could still get the discount if it is offered later. The discount is pretty substantial so I am really eager to learn how to increase my odds of getting the discount. Thanks.
Welcome Walt, good luck witht the discount!

Well I'm about to become a lot more active on this thread! We have airfare!!!

Terry and I are on flight 742 on the 16th! Woo Hoo!!:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Now the trip is becoming more real to me. Now to find a room. Looking at the Praktik Rambla. It has 8 rooms left on the 17th. I'll talk to Terry in the morning and see if she wants to reserve one of them.

See you all in part 4!
:thumbsup2

I learned pay stuff by credit card!

I learned pay stuff by credit card!

Mind you ... credit card isn't exactly safe. Last week someone tried to do 2 money transfers using my credit card details ... fortunately the company was suspicious and blocked the transactions. I'm not impressed as someone obviously had my credit card details from somewhere :mad:
and now I have had to get a new card.

Sorry, Terry and I are officially geezers. In fact this is our 60th birthday celebration! Our children are children of the 80s. But we are fun geeezers. Promise. :dance3::dance3:

Well DD13 thinks Dave and I are from "aceint times"--which I guess would make you fun prehistoric geezers:rotfl:
kcashner - thanks for the great information!

I was wondering about cabin selection.
Of course, everyone is different, but our family does fine in the smaller rooms. We have been in 11s, 10s, 8s and 5s. We are fine in all of them. For us we enjoyed the verandah on the TA but do not feel it is necessarry. The window was not worthwhile the cist for us, so I think we will only pay for a higher than 10 again if we go for a verandah. Now that the kids are older we are moving to having two cheapie rooms though. The appeal of two full bathrooms is big:dance3:
Does anyone know if there will be new shows or how often disney updates the shows?
On the 2007 TA they ran the three regular full production stage shows from the 7 night cruises (Twice Charmed, Golden Mickeys--soon the be repalced by Villians, and Disney Dreams). They also did two other full productions. One was called The Art of the Story and had run on some other specialty longer cruises as well. I am hoping they run it again. it had lots of Disney songs held together with a plot about how tthe various elements of a Disney movie are put together. The other was a show created for the med. cruises called When Mickey Dreams. It was supposed to have a very European and Cirque like feel but honestly came across as rather creepy to our family. Additionally there were two nights with "name" entertainment: Boyz to Men and Jim Brickman on piano. That is 7 nights. Welcome Abroad and Remember the Magic brings it up to 9. For the remaingin gfour there were a couple of full theatre game shows (again we were not all that impressed), a movie night and a few vairiety shows. It never got boring. They did a really, really nice job of keeping everyoen entertained all day and night.:thumbsup2

Lynn--I am glad you enjoyed your trip:goodvibes

Sarah, even if they had used your card it would be fine I think, once I got a bill in for 800 quid for amazon on my card, :scared1: it was fine, they just took the charge of again.

Whoa your balcony view is beautiful! Are you staying at the Praktik?
Yes, we're sorted. We got an apartment that will MORE than suit our needs... for less than it would cost for our family of 5 in 2 rooms anywhere else. :)

I'm sorry I must have missed something in the thread- why did you lose 100 each for the flight?

:I had my card re-credited for the TA flight deposit too .... but lost the Edinburgh - Manchester flight money. Hopefully learn from that one .. if something looks to good to be true.... it generally is !!
Oh no.... looks too good to be true- it is?
well..... I've been pretty excited about how awesome our USair flights were so inexpensive.... I hope it's not too good to be true! What happened? I must have missed about this. ?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. All those with losses and illnesses in the family-you're in my thoughts and prayers.

We paid to go to barcelona, 100 pounds each and the airline went bust so we lost the money, we went with the same company back from fl and paid by cc instead of debit card and got the money refunded.

Hey us airlines you might get Capt Sully:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 how cool would THAT be?
The apartment is at Barceloneta over looking the harbour(dads a boat nut!)
We could have pre cruise drinks there:yay:

just a hop and a jump for you Hadley!

We are arriving on the 14th. I think I am going to look at apartments by the harbour, it looks so nice.

^^ Oh, thank you for explaining.
I'm sorry you lost money on the flight. I hope *fingers majorly crossed* that something like that doesn't happen to us! We're using USair on the way over there- and AA on the way back. So hopefully we'll be okay. Again, I'm sorry you lost money because of that. :(

Oh it's an apartment too! Well the view is fabulous! I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay there. :)

All singing all dancing apartment with washing machine, dvd and stuff:thumbsup2

Well,in truth, we are lucky, we could afford the lost money,so I am gratefull for that,if it was not for all my cruise buddies, I may have chucked it in a focused on the PC cruise, but I am so happy to be cruisng with all these nice folks:chat::boat: I am sure you will be fine with they airlines, as I said you may get "sully":thumbsup2
When we went to LA last year I was SO excited to go in a AA plane, they are just the COOLEST:cool2:planes in the world!!!!

Update- the sun just went away and I found a cat hair ball on the carpet that needs to be cleaned up.

Welcome!!! :thumbsup2

Well I'm about to become a lot more active on this thread! Looking at the Praktik Rambla. It has 8 rooms left on the 17th. I'll talk to Terry in the morning and see if she wants to reserve one of them. QUOTE]

We're on flight 742 on the 16th!! We've also booked at the praktik rambla fir the 17th. Party can start early!!!

The Praktik Rambla is going to be a party that's for sure! It will be like a Dis meet before the cruise. :dance3:

So where are the other children of the 80s on the thread?:confused3

We were just pulling down the streamers from Rio's birthday party. Marika wrapped him uo in a set. Why?
Marika: We're seeing what a mummy would look like if he were going to a party.
Rio: A dead man's party!
Both: Oh, put on Oingo Boingo:lmao:

we have sooo warped our poor children:sad2::rotfl2:

I'm also a child from the 80's. I love the Oingo Boingo reference from your child! Not warped...well rounded!

Does anyone know if there will be new shows or how often disney updates the shows?

I have sailed once before on a 4 night on the wonder in feb 2008. I remember the golden mickeys, disney dreams, etc. I missed the debut of toy story by one week (so sad). I am just curious what they will do for entertainment on a 14 night cruise and/or if the live entertainment shows will be the same ones I saw previously or updated?

I was lucky to do the 2008 WB PC and along with the standard shows (Golden Mickeys, Dreams, etc.) DCL had some live acts. There was also a Crew Talent Show (which is only done on longer cruises). Several crew members participated and let their talents shine in the show. It was so much fun! Here's a link to the 2007 WB TA cruise Navigators (which can give you an idea of the entertainment DCL provides during the long trips): http://www.*******************/m070818/repo01.htm

We also arrive on the 14th :woohoo: I hope I have enough time to experience Barcelona and the surrounding areas. I'm just going to go go go because there will be plenty of sea days to sit by the pool and rest.

Oops...the link I provided didn't come through. Did I do something wrong with providing this link? I hope not. :guilty:

Sorry, Terry and I are officially geezers. In fact this is our 60th birthday celebration! Our children are children of the 80s. But we are fun geeezers. Promise. :dance3::dance3:

We are in that geezer group with children of the 80s also. DrHug will be 65 in Feb and I will be 60 in March.

Like Hadley we found the When Mickey Dreams kind of creepy - on the 2008 PC. Other than that, the additional shows were all entertaining. They do not repeat or let you get bored. :thumbsup2

kcashner - thanks for the great information!

I was wondering about cabin selection. I did a 4 night sailing on the wonder and had a balcony (cat 4). I was sailing alone so there was a toon of room and i liked it but i felt it was kind of wasteful - short cruise and just me. Now i am getting ready to sail on the TA with a friend and we are cat 11 GTY. Cat 4 is so expensive (prohibitive, really) but i was weighing whether or not to upgrade to Cat 8 - while there wont be much to look at "at sea", the window would provide a lot of light and the room is a bit bigger. For those of you with so much experience, which is the best value? would I enjoy Cat 8 that much more (especially for 2 WEEKS?) Thanks.

Walt

Walt, we have cruised mostly in Cat 11s. We did upgrade at the port to a 9 on our frist longer cruise - 10 day. We found it was a waste for us. We also were moved from our 11 to a 9 on one 7 day as there was a smell in our bath that they could not get rid of.....nope, it was not DrHug!! :rotfl2: What we found was that we like our dark little cave. Sleeping is amazing in there and we have to have Mickey give us a wake up or we would sleep all day. We are only in our stateroom to sleep and change. Too much going on to spend time holed up in there. So, bottom line for us is Cat 11 or even Cat 12 GTY if we can get it is way better because we can go twice for the same money.
:thumbsup2
Second try - this should work?!

Good job!!

On our 2007 TA, several of us parents wanted him to conduct a cartwheel class onboard:rotfl2:

I am so jealous of all of you who are "locked in" now with air fare. We can't even look at that unitl we get approval from the school--likely in April.

Well, for our little one, I think we will still be trying to nail back handsprings - but who knows. She has cartwheels and round offs down pat... Going to the gym all summer will help her skills as well... :)

I think I would go crazy not having airfare booked! We got a non stop ATL to BCN before the holidays (about 600 per person, all fees included).

If I didn't think the kids would need the clothes, I think I would pack for them now... :) I am so very ready to go...
