You should be proud of me we booked one of these new rooms at WDW for a short part of our upcoming trip...

I am a little worried bc the curtains have the HUGE skull from the POC logo on it. They told me that mousekeeping can bring a sheet to cover it. Other then that the girls are going to love playing "Peter Pan and Wendy" in this room!!! It is one of their favorite movies and they love to act things out from it!!!

Those rooms look fun!!!

In case anyone is interested, we have had a vaction in Madeira. We didn't do much, but might be able to answer some questions. I might have mentioned it months ago when we were deciding whether to do this cruise so apologies if you remember that, I don't!!!

It is a beautiful island.

Marilyn, maybe you and John can be our tour guide! :thumbsup2 ::yes::

Hi everyone :wave2:

I'd definitely love a lanyard! Also, I submitted my info and a picture for the Roll Call. Can't wait to appear on the Transatlantic Pirates web site! pirate:

glad to know you are getting your info in. Make sure you submit the lanayrd info the eail Erik set up (it should be in post one::yes:: )
I sure did! It's my "going-away/see you soon" gift. You know me. I try to share as much as I can! There's much more to share with smaller numbers, too. I want to make sure you remember just how special New England is before you head out of the country!

I just looked, and it's -7F with a wind chill of -28F! When I say look, I mean I went to Weather.com AND I opened up the front door! Tomorrow's high... 5 degrees F and expected wind chills varying from -23F at 9am and -8 at 9pm. :cold:

Enjoy my dear! Make the most of winter!
Gee thanks:rolleyes2 It was -12 when I got up this morning (not counting the windchill--as if CHILL is a strong enough word for this mess). I a msure my in laws will thank you when they land today:upsidedow I think it is supposed to get all the way up to 4 as a high:rolleyes: I am excitedly watching for your post saying that warm weather is on the way:goodvibes
Thanks for all of the great info and pics! I cant' wait!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Marilyn, I just want to say "ditto" to Stephanie's commnet. Thanks for hte photos and information:thumbsup2

We didn't go too far, after a few trips on the small windy scary roads I was so tense my back siezed up, so we stayed on property and I had a massage!!!!;)

I know some hired private taxis for a tour of the island and really enjoyed that for a much cheaper price than a coach trip.

Hi again everyone! Before I go to sleep, I want to post a question for all of you: When are you flying to Barcelona?? I know that some of you will already be there, doing the B2B! But those of you who will be flying over only for this cruise, are you going to leave the details to DCL and book air through them? Are you going to book air yourself, but plan to arrive the same day? Book air yourself but arrive a day or two in advance?

I'm thinking that it might be easiest to book everything through DCL, but to arrive the day before the cruise. I tried to find an option to book this on the DCL web site (just so that I could check out pricing) but all it's letting me do is choose DCL air. Do I need to call my TA or DCL rep for questions and info on the hotels in Barcelona, and what the pre-stay options are? Thanks in advance!

I booked with a DCL air red-eye and then found out from these posts that people were arriving a day or two earlier, so called and changed my flight to Thursday night with Friday arrival. Only hotel option at that time was Le Meridien @ $600/room/night - but DCL air @ $900 pp from Nashville was still better by about 1/2 than anything for autumn flights for 2009.

I've got this booking as a back-up: if I can find better flight prices, we can cancel DCL air until 150 days out. I imagine it would involve a round trip ticket to Barcelona (and waste the return segment) + a one-way ticket Orlando to Nashville (no increased fare for one-way). I've also got Hilton Honors points which I hope to use to get free nights in Barcelona.

If I can't find better prices, the savings on DCL air will make up (somewhat) for the inflated hotel price.

It was 11 degrees here in Huntsville, Alabama, this morning.

When I first moved my cruise to this date about a month ago only the Le Meredien was available but a few days later I was able to change to the Hilton Diagonal Mar which was less costly and for me, in a better location to get around and do a few things in BCN (I have a power wheelchair). I think there were other hotels that were also less costly out of the ones DCL is offering. I ended up booking two prenights with DCL air. I only need one way air from MCO and it was $735 including all the transfers from airport/resort/port/resort at WDW- I thought it was a great price and I definitely wanted everything booked via DCL with their insurance in case I have any problems. You can always c/b and waitlist the other BCN hotels. I'll bet Le Meredien is gorgeous but boy is it alot of $$.---Kathy

Thanks for all the info people are passing around regarding our ports of call. It's getting me excited!

I know you are waiting for that post with warm news, so, I'm here to tell you it's not happening today! Our high is suppose to be 5F, but when I was outside at 10:30, it was -4F. :cold: According to Weather.com, it's warmed up to -1F, from -14F this morning.

Indeed you can tell the in-laws I'm to blame! I can take the heat! :lmao:

SeaSpray - we are leaving for the cruise Wednesday to get into Barcelona on Thursday. We like 2 days before the cruise because IF something happens with our luggage we still have time to claim it or buy things, etc., but we are just a paranoid group. :rotfl2: We are getting our own airfare and hotel.

Good point! I usually don't worry about lost luggage, but with being in a foreign country this time, it's definitely something to consider.

We booked the air for the EB TA last time 5 days before the ship left. We booked the whole cruise 5 days before it left for that matter! :) The rate was the same as those who booked at the beginning and added air. It is the same with flight consolidators. If they have the seats then the price remains with the same.

With that being said though I would not take the chance. I would just add the air now. You can remove it at anytime (before final payment). This way you can budget for the Disney price and if you find something better then you just remove it from your reservation. Then you will have extra spending money! :cheer2:

I may do just that; I'll call my travel agent today and have them add on the air. It's great to have the option to remove it later on down the road.

Well the most popular thing I think are the toboggan rides. I am sure there will be a DCL excursion which will have advantages, but you can go and do that yourselves. From Funchal, the capital and where the cruise terminal, such as it is, is, there is a cable car up to Monte, where the runs go from. We didn't do a ride, but friends did. One problem is the toboggan folk leave you at the bottom of the hill to make your own way to wherever you want to go. I would think with DCL they would meet you down there. At Monte, before the ride are Tropical Gardens which are nice, but steep if you have mobility issues. We had a free tot of Madeira wine here!!

There is also a lovely botanical gardens on the opposite side of the hill to Monte. We didn't go, but plant loving friends did and loved it. Their photos were beautiful. I think you can cable car accross the ravine from Monte, or there is a different cable car somewhere out of Funchal. Again I am sure DCL will have excursions there as it is very popular.

I would presume there will be a tour of a Madeira wine place, madeira cake place etc. An around island tour would be striking. The north coast is supposed to be nice, The roads can be scary! There are catamarans and other boats that go out from the marina which is just accross from the cruise terminal. Funchal itself is nice if you don't want to stray too far. You can walk from the ship but it might be too much of a walk for some. I'm thinking there will be some transport provided. There are some posh shops and nice cafes. There is also, not too far away some poor areas.

You can have a famous afternoon tea at Reids Hotel which is very English!!!

We stayed a few miles out of Funchal on the top of a hill which became covered in cloud far too often!! We drove to a few fishing villiages, but I didn't like negotiating the small scary roads, so didn't venture too far. We did however love going into Funchal.

I'll post some pictures.

Some of the scenery. Note the crops grown right to the cliff edge. The workers hang over the edge, or on ledge over the cliff side!!! Funchal and the cruise terminal is in the larger bay.
Most of the other photos I have are similar, or are of our fantastic accommodation we had.

Thanks for the review and the great pictures!!!! :)

Caribbean Beach Resort was our first-ever onsite resort and we had an excellent time! And now with the new pirate-themed rooms, it looks even better. As you probably know, they remodeled the pool area too. You'll have a great time! I wish my boys were still young, they would've LOVED the new changes! pirate:

glad to know you are getting your info in. Make sure you submit the lanayrd info the eail Erik set up (it should be in post one::yes:: )

Thanks for the reminder, I'll send Erik an email with our lanyard info today! :)

Thanks for explaining how you booked your air. That all sounds great to me! I didn't realize that you could book DCL air plus DCL hotel to arrive more than just the day before. This leaves so many more options (and choices! :scratchin ) LOL When you book DCL air, does it include the return air from MCO (Orlando) to your home airport??

When I first moved my cruise to this date about a month ago only the Le Meredien was available but a few days later I was able to change to the Hilton Diagonal Mar which was less costly and for me, in a better location to get around and do a few things in BCN (I have a power wheelchair). Thanks for this info. I'm going to speak to my DH and see if he does want to arrive prior to the sail date, and if so, then I'm going to add DCL air and hotel to our reservation.

:thumbsup2 I will PM you. I don't need any more surprise visitors! LOL :rotfl:

Anyone else going to WDW this summer?

If things go right we will be back living in our house in Florida by the first of June at the latest, so we can meet up at WDW if its a non work day for DH.
He usually has weekends off.

33 degrees here right now.

We are actually flying to Paris on the 13th, staying there until the morning of the 16th and then taking a train to Barcelona. We wanted to do DL Paris and this is the perfect opportunity. I have a friend in Barcelona and we wanted to spend a day with her as well before setting off.

P.S. It's -4 degrees here right now. :faint: I HATE WINTER!! :cold: LOL How is the weather near you today???? :scratchin

Lovely! Will be in the low to mid 70's here today. I'm about to head out to lunch and will look for some patio dining. sorry, but somebody has to do it

HEAT?! What heat??!! Where is it???? Send it this way!!!:lmao:

Wish I could send some of our 'warmth' up to all of you in need! ::yes::

We are at Vero Beach Resort. This is our first visit here and we are liking it alot. We went to te campfire tonight, sang and ate S'mores. :woohoo:

We've been there a couple of times now, and love it. We've stayed in a studio and 1-bedroom units.

I don't want you to get your hopes up. I know most airlines refer to this facility as laptop power and you need a special cable/ adapter that the airline will loan you to use this. I know this does not even work with all makes of laptop and most certainly does not work with anything else.

Many airlines are actually switching to 110V power outlets, that accept normal US plugs, as well as other standard plugs without an adapter. Best to check with the airline on what type of power they provide (AC vs DC), and whether or not an adapter is needed.

We are going to arrive one day in advance, and currently have both air and the 1-night hotel booked through DCL. We will be checking both airfare and the hotel on our own as we get closer, then decide whether to stay with DCL or not. I recommend to go ahead and book the air through DCL, and get all your questions answered through them, you can always change it later if you change your mind, or find something better.

Alex

:rotfl2: Jackie, you are just plain mean! :rotfl: We keep bringing cooler weather with us. All through So. CA, AZ, TX and now in FL everyone keeps saying "it was really nice until yesterday!" :sad2: It was very windy today. We hope it dies down a bit before we have to head out in the motorhome tomorrow. No fun driving that thing in the wind! :scared: We will be at Fort Wilderness for a couple of nights day after tomorrow. Not sure about tomorrow night, maybe a Walmart or a rest area, that way we will be up and out early to get started with our WDW fun! :cool1:

Let me introduce myself...I'm Laurie and I'm travelling with DH Gregg. We have taken 5 DCL cruises with one more booked before this cruise (NYE 09) and one after (Thanksgiving - need to get in all of the major holidays; yes we have already done Easter). I wanted to take the canal cruise but couldn't talk DH into it. I think he felt bad (or maybe he thought I was crazy) when I spent our entire day off watching the Magic go through the canal. We were trying to decide what to do for our 25th wedding anniversary which is this year so I batted my eyelashes as asked so nicely to have this cruise as a late anniversary celebration. And it worked....once DH heard the price. I didn't tell him the airfare would cost as much as the cruise. But we'll save that part for later

Now we just have to work on getting someone to watch the kids for two weeks. They will be 14 and 16, both girls. I need to find a really good bribe. WHo the heck wants to watch two teenage girls???!!! No one in their right mind. Their mine and I don't want to be with them for 2 weeks straight I need to start saving a stash for a night time nanny to watch the kids just in case.

I look forward to getting to know all of you in the next year plus.

Me: Sarah
DH: Josh
DS: Hunter (will have just turned 8 at time of cruise)

We live in the DC Metro and I have family in Southeastern PA (have my undergrad degree from Penn State - "We Are..." anyone???) DH and I met at the University of Kansas while I was finishing my Master's and he was studying for the LSAT. We've also lived in Waco, TX and like to spend some time in San Antonio each year (love the Riverwalk!) We've been married 8 years.

DS is in 1st Grade and we'll (obviously) be pulling him from school for the cruise. We're hoping he'll have a few kids his age to play with.

Now that I've rambled...glad to meet y'all and we'll see you in 19 months!

Oh...Favorite books: Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (read it years ago so I'm not a poser and reading it just because of the movie - which, incidentally, I haven't seen yet) and anything by Dan Brown - which may make me a poser, but I don't much care!
