We are staying in the Inn garden view room. It is a studio, but with 2 beds instead of a hide-a-bed. I like the location of the room in the Inn but can't compare the free standing units. The resort is smaller than those at The World so even in those units it would not be a very far walk to access restaurants, pool, etc. The lobby is comfortable and has free WiFi access. Being a bit computer illiterate, I don't understand how they can have the WiFi available in the lobby, but not in the rooms direcly above it. :confused3 There is a walkway to the beach that requires a room key for access. The grounds are well kept, the paint is fresh and clean everywhere. They are doing some refurbishing in the lobby area right now, so there are partitions up to wall off those areas and some noise from the work. It will be very nice when completed. There are lots of activities for kids, crafts, pool games (in warmer weather of course), the campfire I mentioned, miniature golf, an unbirthday party, etc. Anything specific you would like to know?

There seems to be lots of activities nearby....boat excursions to see manatees, kayak excursions, some historical museums, shopping, etc.

Sounds like you are having a blast! Tell us more if you can. We have never been and we were thinking about it. Do they have Goofy and Mickey walking around? Is Vero Beach, the area in general, nice?

Okay it isn't -3, but we woke up in Florida this morning and it is "freezing" in our land. Hopefully if you are here, you have clothes to bundle up. I cannot believe it. I do have all my flowers covered and hopefully I won't lose them like last year.

Stay warm Kimberly and hang in there! For all the newcomers - WELCOME!!!! :grouphug:[/QUOTE

I remember last year when I covered up all my plants only to wake up the following morning to find that the coverings had blown off of everything on one side of the house...sigh. I thought my gorgeous hibiscus would never return but that thing will never die- it was back to 7 feet tall when I sold our home this past October. I have the windows open today and am enjoying wearing a sweatshirt in the house. Glad I'm not digging out of snow though. Stay warm everyone and safe on the roads.---Kathy

dclfun - I asked this question yesterday but kind of got lost with the rest of my writing - are you really from Lakeland? That is where I am from??? I am so excited to know someone from Lakeland going on the cruise!!!!

Hi. We have today cancelled our 2010 Baltic cruise and transferred to this one instead. Hope we can overcome the airfare issue.

We know some of you, having been on the WB Panama Canal cruise last May.

Just me Marilyn and my husband John.

Hi folks! You all are an active bunch! I booked this cruise while we were on the Magic Christmas cruise. I didn't expect to find the first thread closed and 80 pages of a second thread for this cruise meet.

Let me introduce myself...I'm Laurie and I'm travelling with DH Gregg. We have taken 5 DCL cruises with one more booked before this cruise (NYE 09) and one after (Thanksgiving - need to get in all of the major holidays; yes we have already done Easter). I wanted to take the canal cruise but couldn't talk DH into it. I think he felt bad (or maybe he thought I was crazy) when I spent our entire day off watching the Magic go through the canal. We were trying to decide what to do for our 25th wedding anniversary which is this year so I batted my eyelashes as asked so nicely to have this cruise as a late anniversary celebration. :cutie: And it worked....once DH heard the price. I didn't tell him the airfare would cost as much as the cruise. But we'll save that part for later

Now we just have to work on getting someone to watch the kids for two weeks. They will be 14 and 16, both girls. I need to find a really good bribe. WHo the heck wants to watch two teenage girls???!!! No one in their right mind. Their mine and I don't want to be with them for 2 weeks straight  I need to start saving a stash for a night time nanny to watch the kids just in case.

I look forward to getting to know all of you in the next year plus.

There will be 2 more joining this crew!

Anything else needed at this time?

See ya on the ship:flower3:

Hello, All!

Happy to say we're joining you on the WBTA. I've been reading the thread and it looks like many of you know each other from previous cruises - this will be our 2nd Disney Cruise and 1st TA. Stateroom # is 8014 and we're waitlisted for Cat. 3 (doubt that'll happen but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.) Anyway, I guess I should introduce myself and the fam:

Me: Sarah
DH: Josh
DS: Hunter (will have just turned 8 at time of cruise)

We live in the DC Metro and I have family in Southeastern PA (have my undergrad degree from Penn State - "We Are..." anyone???) DH and I met at the University of Kansas while I was finishing my Master's and he was studying for the LSAT. We've also lived in Waco, TX and like to spend some time in San Antonio each year (love the Riverwalk!) We've been married 8 years.

DS is in 1st Grade and we'll (obviously) be pulling him from school for the cruise. We're hoping he'll have a few kids his age to play with.

Now that I've rambled...glad to meet y'all and we'll see you in 19 months! :woohoo:

Oh...Favorite books: Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (read it years ago so I'm not a poser and reading it just because of the movie - which, incidentally, I haven't seen yet) and anything by Dan Brown - which may make me a poser, but I don't much care! ;)

Hey everyone! We just got off the phone with our travel agent! WE ARE BOOKED ON THIS CRUISE!! WOO HOO!!!! :woohoo: :cool1: :yay: :cheer2:

Let me introduce ourselves! LOL

Me: Terry :surfweb: princess:
DH: John :surfweb: pirate:

We live 1/2 hour south of Boston, but I'm originally from New Jersey :sunny:
This will be our third Disney cruise (fifth cruise overall, including two Royal Caribbean cruise), but our very first transatlantic. :sail:

We're on Deck 6 in a Category 6 verandah cabin.

We're going on this cruise to celebrate our 10th anniversary! :bride: :groom:

DH is the manager of design services for a large electronics company, I work in the accounting department of a small finance company. We both love our jobs. I have 2 DSs from previous marriage who will be turning 21 and 18 this year. We took them on our previous 2 Disney cruises, but THIS one is just for DH and I! :lovestruc

I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you over the next year and a half! :grouphug:

Hey everyone, I am booked on this cruise but haven't really talked much on here. I've been posting on other threads for my back-to-back cruise coming up Febuary 21st-march 7th, 2009, but just wanted to say hi and after those cruises are over will start posting here more:goodvibes

:welcome: aboard to all our new cruisers. The amount of people that are this thread alone makes me think that this will be a very full ship indeed.

Corinna

Hey Everyone!! It seems our cruise is gaining even more in popularity as I've noticed more and more new cruisers joining us in the past couple weeks. So, first of all :welcome: to all our new friends. With new people joining it seems a good time to remind people about our fantabulous DIS group lanyards!!! Why group lanyards? I already told you----they're FANTABULOUS, that's why!! Seriously, though, the lanyards are not only handy for carrying around your ID and key to the world card....but they're really great for recognizing your fellow DISBoarders on the cruise and helping to put screennames with real names and real names with faces (& families).....and even if you don't like to wear your lanyard, the lanyard and name badge make a great souvenir or addition to your scrapbook or memory box!! :thumbsup2

If you would like custom lanyards and name badges (they're FREE!!) for yourself and/or your traveling party, you just need to send some information to me at the following email address: wbtalanyards@yahoo.com The full details are in post #1, but as a reminder...in your email you need to tell me 1.) your Dis screenname(s) with correct spelling, 2.) the first names of each person in your party, 3.) your stateroom number, and 4.) if you're on the B2B cruise with the last 10-night Med cruise.

Some folks have already sent in their information....but there's room for PLENTY more!!! So send an email out today to make sure I have your correct information!

I would love to join in with this, but we are in GTY status and can therefore not provide a stateroom number. I am aware that by the time we are likely to get our room assignment, it will be to late to join. Can we join despite the fact that we won't know yet where we are staying?

We haven't had a Question of the Week in a while. So, being a librarian and all, what is a book you have enjoyed (old or new--kids or adult, whatever) enough to recomend it to others????

I love reading and go through loads of books in a typical month, but my all time favourite is The Pillars of the Earth.

That's a great idea- when my flight gets booked I'll ask about the seats with power stations. Usually for someone with medical needs, DCL books the air a little early so those kind of arrangements can be made. I agree about the expensive hotels. I booked the Hilton Diagonal Mar via DCL- it's $420 a night just for one person. Fortunately I got it- when I first started looking all they had was the Meredian something-or-other and it was over $600 a night. I really wanted everything booked via DCL but my daughter and her then-fiance stayed in BCN a few years ago and got a really nice place to stay pretty cheap- I'll have to ask her where they stayed and will share their info. I figure if I'm going all the way over there I want to see some of the city.
Kathy

I don't want you to get your hopes up. I know most airlines refer to this facility as laptop power and you need a special cable/ adapter that the airline will loan you to use this. I know this does not even work with all makes of laptop and most certainly does not work with anything else.

I love to read though never have enough time:rolleyes1 .

Favorites:
Harry Potter series, of course
101 Dalmations (original by Dodie Smith) - I loved this as a kid and reread it every year

Most recently I finished
World without End by Ken Follett, the sequel to Pillars of the Earth

I was a little intimidated by the size (+1k pages!), but it was a really good read and I would recommend it and also Pillars of the Earth.

I haven't read the Twilight series yet, but my kids insist I must.

I also like reading Patricia Cromwell's Kay Scarpetta series and Sue Grafton's Alphabet mystery series as great "poolside" easy reads.

I love reading other's suggestions! I thought I would get so much reading done on the EBTA '07 - :sad2: I think I read a total of 25 pages! Hopefully, this cruise will be less hectic. Heck, if nothing else I'll have 25 hours/day instead of 23:banana: :rotfl2:

I love Patricia Cornwell and Sue Grafton, too. Have your tried Kathy Reichs, Sara Paretzky, Linda Fairstein or Tess Gerritsen? I also love the books by two British crime writers: Val McDermid and Minette Walters.

Right, I am finally all caught up. Now I am just waiting for DH, who will take me out for a meal at a Brazilian Steakhouse tonight.

Corinna

.... The amount of people that are this thread alone makes me think that this will be a very full ship indeed.....

I was thinking about how big our group has grown, too! Is anyone keeping stats on the total number of DISers and their friends/family members we have? (I love stats!!)

I was just looking at the Roll Call list and saw that Elderfam is going on our cruise. I met her in Epcot last year and her baby was 3 months old! How time flies - I was excited to see you and you are signed up! The "little one" is just beautiful.

Okay, now I am more with it and won't let that much time pass. I really did miss a lot!

dclfun - I asked this question yesterday but kind of got lost with the rest of my writing - are you really from Lakeland? That is where I am from??? I am so excited to know someone from Lakeland going on the cruise!!!!

We sold our home in Lakeland and moved to Orlando ( Hunter's Creek) this past October. I'm still right down the road! I work in Orlando and the commute was killing me and my ancient van. It was really bad when the price of gas went up so much- I was spending nearly $100 a week just to get to/from work. We lived in North Lakeland- I still come back once a month to see my Dr. who is in Watson Clinic off Lakeland Hills Blvd. Do you live north or south? ---Kathy

It appears there are several of us from the Washington DC area. We live in Bethesda and have been in our house for 19 years. I work in Alexandria and Joi by Montgomery Mall. I am glad I drive a company car to work and don't have to add those miles to my own vehicle.

I am glad your knee is getting better.

Joanne, we have thought of a million names, but keep going back to Ruby.

We get her valentines day, maybe a few days earlier.
OMG, what a sweetheart! I bet you can't wait to bring her home! :)

Welcome!!!!! :)

When we drove to Boston yesterday, Marik knew before I even asked her to to pack up a bag of all our snow pants and gloves, etc to keep in the car "just in case" Luckily we did not need them--but I thought for a minute we might. We passed a car sideways in hte ditch about 10 minutes from the house. I stopped to make sure no one was still in it and as I was walking up coudl see that the tracks were totally fresh and not obsucred by wind or other cars yet and realized I was first on the scene. For a moment htere I was very worried, but as I got close a lovely teen girl popped her head out the window. She was compeltely uninjured (hurray seat belts) and had already called her dad who was on his way. SO, I just stayed and talked with her for about 5 minutes to help her stay calm (and to watch her in case she WAS injured and just didn't know it) until her dad got there. Moral of the story--stay warm and drive carefully and wear those seatbelts (thank goodness that young lady did--it is not legally required in New Hampshire and a lot of people do not).

That was so nice of you, Hadley! How's packing going?

My knee is getting a bit better. I am now able to put a little weight on it and walk on it with crutches. Trying to build my stamina back up...it's taking time but it will come.

Sounds like you are having a blast! Tell us more if you can. We have never been and we were thinking about it. Do they have Goofy and Mickey walking around? Is Vero Beach, the area in general, nice?

No characters here. Lots of good, friendly Disney customer service though. We drove to a Publix nearby today and the area looked nice. We spent some time in the spa today. It was pretty cold, but still there were a few kids in the pool. We also played two rounds of miniature golf.....I'm not playing with Dennis anymore!! :headache: :rotfl2: Yep, he beat me twice! We also walked on the beach for a bit. We needed our sweatshirts for that and did not stay out too long. We got a look at the cottages from the beach today and they look really nice. They are right on the beach and I would imagine you would hear the wave breaking from there. :cloud9:

Any specific questions I will try to answer.

Corrina--I am answering your lanyard question!!! ABSOLUTELY still submot your info and take part. Just put "gty" for room number and when yo ufind it out (yes, it will be clsoe to sail date and that is okay) send it along. In the meantime we will still know to order enough lanyards for your group and be able to make your name badges. Room numbers are just so we can deliver them to you if we fail to hook up at the terminal:thumbsup2

Amy--Glad you are getting better bit by bit.:goodvibes

Mrs. Mork (sorry--I am forgetting your real name at the moment)--Thanks for the descriptions of VB. I have alwasy wondered what it is like and I am truly enjoying reading what you post about it.:goodvibes

Kimberly--Did you haev to send all the cold this way? -9 when we came in from dance tonight:eek:

Todd--The meet you have planned sounds fun. I wish I could be there:rolleyes1

We live South off of Carter Road. I know another DCL fan in Hunter's Creek! I know exactly where Watson Clinic is! Let me know when you are in town again.

Todd - glad to hear that your meet is getting up there - take pictures!!

Hi everyone :wave2:

I'd definitely love a lanyard! Also, I submitted my info and a picture for the Roll Call. Can't wait to appear on the Transatlantic Pirates web site! pirate:

...Kimberly--Did you haev to send all the cold this way? -9 when we came in from dance tonight:eek:

I sure did! It's my "going-away/see you soon" gift. You know me. I try to share as much as I can! There's much more to share with smaller numbers, too. I want to make sure you remember just how special New England is before you head out of the country!

I just looked, and it's -7F with a wind chill of -28F! When I say look, I mean I went to Weather.com AND I opened up the front door! Tomorrow's high... 5 degrees F and expected wind chills varying from -23F at 9am and -8 at 9pm. :cold:

Enjoy my dear! Make the most of winter!

Hi again everyone! Before I go to sleep, I want to post a question for all of you: When are you flying to Barcelona?? I know that some of you will already be there, doing the B2B! But those of you who will be flying over only for this cruise, are you going to leave the details to DCL and book air through them? Are you going to book air yourself, but plan to arrive the same day? Book air yourself but arrive a day or two in advance?

I'm thinking that it might be easiest to book everything through DCL, but to arrive the day before the cruise. I tried to find an option to book this on the DCL web site (just so that I could check out pricing) but all it's letting me do is choose DCL air. Do I need to call my TA or DCL rep for questions and info on the hotels in Barcelona, and what the pre-stay options are? Thanks in advance!

I have booked all my transportation through DCL for the moment and will arrive on a red eye the morning of departure. The transportation prices were reasonable. I would prefer to arrive a day or two ahead, but the hotel for a pre-stay :faint: . According to the CM, if I wanted to use DCL air and fly in a day or two ahead I had to also use their hotel - something like $700/night! For the WB TA I booked my own transportation and post cruise hotel. DCL's air was really expensive, and I got much better deals on my own. This time, their air is really good though, so we'll see what we actually end up doing:scratchin .
