I have booked all my transportation through DCL for the moment and will arrive on a red eye the morning of departure. The transportation prices were reasonable. I would prefer to arrive a day or two ahead, but the hotel for a pre-stay :faint: . According to the CM, if I wanted to use DCL air and fly in a day or two ahead I had to also use their hotel - something like $700/night! For the WB TA I booked my own transportation and post cruise hotel. DCL's air was really expensive, and I got much better deals on my own. This time, their air is really good though, so we'll see what we actually end up doing:scratchin .

We are booked through DCL too. What airport are you scheduled to fly out of? We are flying out of SD.

Thanks, Sarah (glad to see you spell your name correctly ;) ) I'm sure Dan will enjoy the cruise. I was worried about my husband when we first did the Disney Cruise but it was all for naught - he loved it! Shortly after our Disney Cruise, we went on a 4-day RCCL cruise to Mexico with one of his clients (they chartered the entire ship for their employees but the company was going through some legal issues with the gov't so my husband and I were invited so he could work with the Pres. and CEO of the company while they were on the ship (captive audience. ;) ) Anyway, Josh kept comparing RCCL to DCL and decided there was no comparison-Disney does it better. Anyway, I digress-can't wait to meet you!.

This is so what I'm hoping Dan does! He did with Disney when we went there in October so I'm assuming he will love it!

In case anyone is interested, we have had a vaction in Madeira. We didn't do much, but might be able to answer some questions. I might have mentioned it months ago when we were deciding whether to do this cruise so apologies if you remember that, I don't!!!

It is a beautiful island.

We sold our home in Lakeland and moved to Orlando ( Hunter's Creek) this past October. I'm still right down the road! I work in Orlando and the commute was killing me and my ancient van. It was really bad when the price of gas went up so much- I was spending nearly $100 a week just to get to/from work. We lived in North Lakeland- I still come back once a month to see my Dr. who is in Watson Clinic off Lakeland Hills Blvd. Do you live north or south? ---Kathy

OK odd question about Lakeland, is there a vineyard/winery there? The reason I ask is that my Mum and Dad visited one a few years back and have wine from it but claim it is not in Florida when I am sure it is!

Hi again everyone! Before I go to sleep, I want to post a question for all of you: When are you flying to Barcelona?? I know that some of you will already be there, doing the B2B! But those of you who will be flying over only for this cruise, are you going to leave the details to DCL and book air through them? Are you going to book air yourself, but plan to arrive the same day? Book air yourself but arrive a day or two in advance?

I'm thinking that it might be easiest to book everything through DCL, but to arrive the day before the cruise. I tried to find an option to book this on the DCL web site (just so that I could check out pricing) but all it's letting me do is choose DCL air. Do I need to call my TA or DCL rep for questions and info on the hotels in Barcelona, and what the pre-stay options are? Thanks in advance!

We're doing ours seperately as we can't do ours through DCL being this side of the water. We are going to fly in Thursday night then have 2 nights in a hotel there, though haven't looked at where or anything.

Oh is there anything that we should definately see? Obviously my main thing is to get some Madiera wine!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Now, a few more questions. LOL

Those of you who've already booked air through DCL, do you think that the rate that DCL gave you is pretty good and therefore you wanted to lock in the rate? For example, if I don't book DCL air now and I wait 6 months, is it possible that DCL air will go up in price? Or would it be the same exact price that they're quoting right now?? Also, if airfare comes down, is there any chance that DCL would lower their rates and give the people who already booked air through them a credit for the difference? I guess that I just don't want to pass on booking DCL air right now, and then decide 6 months or a year from now that I should use DCL air, and end up paying more than what I could lock in, now. I hope all of these questions make sense! LOL Just not sure if I should take the plunge and add air onto my reservation now, or wait?? Thanks again in advance! :)

P.S. It's -4 degrees here right now. :faint: I HATE WINTER!! :cold: LOL How is the weather near you today???? :scratchin

No, no winery in Lakeland. It is a very nice area, but definitely no winery. I wish - I could bring wine instead of candy!

SeaSpray - we are leaving for the cruise Wednesday to get into Barcelona on Thursday. We like 2 days before the cruise because IF something happens with our luggage we still have time to claim it or buy things, etc., but we are just a paranoid group. :rotfl2: We are getting our own airfare and hotel.

We booked the air for the EB TA last time 5 days before the ship left. We booked the whole cruise 5 days before it left for that matter! :) The rate was the same as those who booked at the beginning and added air. It is the same with flight consolidators. If they have the seats then the price remains with the same.

With that being said though I would not take the chance. I would just add the air now. You can remove it at anytime (before final payment). This way you can budget for the Disney price and if you find something better then you just remove it from your reservation. Then you will have extra spending money! :cheer2:

I have been saying the same thing to myself!

Hey were are going to be at Disney World this summer, it would be great to see you if you are around!

Yes! We will definitely be around and love to see you too. Just let me know the details!

Well the most popular thing I think are the toboggan rides. I am sure there will be a DCL excursion which will have advantages, but you can go and do that yourselves. From Funchal, the capital and where the cruise terminal, such as it is, is, there is a cable car up to Monte, where the runs go from. We didn't do a ride, but friends did. One problem is the toboggan folk leave you at the bottom of the hill to make your own way to wherever you want to go. I would think with DCL they would meet you down there. At Monte, before the ride are Tropical Gardens which are nice, but steep if you have mobility issues. We had a free tot of Madeira wine here!!

There is also a lovely botanical gardens on the opposite side of the hill to Monte. We didn't go, but plant loving friends did and loved it. Their photos were beautiful. I think you can cable car accross the ravine from Monte, or there is a different cable car somewhere out of Funchal. Again I am sure DCL will have excursions there as it is very popular.

I would presume there will be a tour of a Madeira wine place, madeira cake place etc. An around island tour would be striking. The north coast is supposed to be nice, The roads can be scary! There are catamarans and other boats that go out from the marina which is just accross from the cruise terminal. Funchal itself is nice if you don't want to stray too far. You can walk from the ship but it might be too much of a walk for some. I'm thinking there will be some transport provided. There are some posh shops and nice cafes. There is also, not too far away some poor areas.

You can have a famous afternoon tea at Reids Hotel which is very English!!!

We stayed a few miles out of Funchal on the top of a hill which became covered in cloud far too often!! We drove to a few fishing villiages, but I didn't like negotiating the small scary roads, so didn't venture too far. We did however love going into Funchal.

I'll post some pictures.

Some of the scenery. Note the crops grown right to the cliff edge. The workers hang over the edge, or on ledge over the cliff side!!! Funchal and the cruise terminal is in the larger bay.

The view accross to Funchal from the cruise terminal. It was very warm, but those low clouds come in at any time.

View down from Monte, You can see the cruise terminal jetty where the magic will be docked.

The toboggans ready to go. The guys supposedly have a shorter life expectancy.:sad2:

Most of the other photos I have are similar, or are of our fantastic accommodation we had.

You should be proud of me we booked one of these new rooms at WDW for a short part of our upcoming trip...

I am a little worried bc the curtains have the HUGE skull from the POC logo on it. They told me that mousekeeping can bring a sheet to cover it. Other then that the girls are going to love playing "Peter Pan and Wendy" in this room!!! It is one of their favorite movies and they love to act things out from it!!!
