Sept 18 2010 WB TransAtlantic Pirates/Capt Jacks Re-Repoing Repossession Cruise Pt.10

I miss everybody, but after what I am going through at the moment, I would be very reluctant to ever commit myself to a reunion cruise again. I cruised with a fantastic group in October 2009 and we were planning a reunion cruise for this October. I moved heaven and earth to be there.

Some of you might remember that originally it was our plan to do our vow renewal on the WBTA, but once I new that I would be cruising with this fantastic group again, we decided to postpone this for another year and do it on the reunion cruise. The girls of one of the families were going to be my flower girls and we spent months discussing dresses, jewellery, hair accessories, etc. I was so looking forward to all this. Fast forward to last Friday. The mother of the two girls that were supposed to be my flower girls suddenly announced on the cruise meet thread that they had to cancel as her husband cannot get leave. The possibility of this happening was never even mentioned until I let her know that DCL has confirmed the vow renewal two days earlier. Since then, 3 other families have jumped ship. From the original group of 8 families (one had to cancel last year for financial reasons), there are no a maximum of 3 left. Well, I only know for sure that Graham and I are still booked. The other two families never post and I have never met them on the last cruise.

So I am now faced with the choice of having a vow renewal with just Graham and me or to cancel. As this is most likely to take place on the first full day, I would not even have the option to see if we get on with our table mates and invite them. DFTW also wants names and reservation numbers of guests two months ahead now so it probably would not have worked anyway even if the vow renewal had been scheduled for the end of the cruise. We have decided to cancel the vow renewal. I am absolutely heartbroken and to say that I am spitting nails at the moment would be the understatement of the year.

Corinna:

I am so very sorry that you are unable to do your vow renewal. I just wish you were with us on this year's WBTA as we would love to stand up for you at your vow renewal. The WBTA 2011 is shaping up to be another great cruise!!

My heart just goes out to you!!

Corinna - so sorry to hear about your issues with your vow renewal cruise. I know you were really looking forward to it and has to be a disappointment that you've been abondoned. Wish we could join you but too many other commitments and I'm running out of vacation time (have a lot less now that I started a new job).

So Sorry you are backing out of that cruise.:sad2:I was looking forward to seeing you 2 again.:grouphug:

DD and I were just talking ... looks like we are backing out of that same cruise too. DSIL doesnt like what's happening in Mexico right now, and doesnt want the kids exposed to anything that negitive. So ...it looks like it's a few days at Disneyland for all 8 of us. Possible Big family cruise in 2013. God willing all my kids have jobs by then!:thumbsup2

I wish that I could be on this cruise, too. Still, I think one Transatlantic cruise was probably enough for Graham.

For now it is just the vow renewal that stands cancelled. I still have to cruise booked and I am feeling a bit more positive about this. Fact is, I absolutely loved Cabo and Puerto Vallerta on the Panama Canal Cruise and I quite fancy doing Trainer for a Day at Cabo. Much of course depends if I can get a reservation for Grand Californian Villas when my booking window opens on Saturday. I banked a whole lot of points last year and we would lose them if we don't use them before December 1st.

Well, there is something altogether more positive going on in my life. I have some leave and lieu days to take in spring and I have a bunch of free tickets that I just have to pay the taxes on for anywhere on the network for the airline that I am working for. It is just standby, but that should be fine. We both love Dubai so we have decided to spend just over a week there. I got a fantastic deal on a 5 star hotel right by the marina. They have a sister hotel nearby that has a private beach and multiple pools that we can use and they even have a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes between the two hotels. Our hotel has a fantastic spa that even comes with heated tile loungers. This is going to be a very relaxing vacation. Having said that, I am not quite sure what I think about having a butler that amongst other things will unpack and pack for you! This is where we will be staying:

Most of the time we will just chill on the beach, by the pool or in the spa, but I want to have a better look at the Dubai Mall, visit the soukhs (particularly the Gold Soukh), maybe take a ride on an Abra (traditional water taxi) along the creek and I finally want to get to the top of the highest building of the world.

That sounds so exciting!
Howard and I would love to do the WBTA in September... gotta win the lottery first:rotfl2: And the final payment due date is sooooo close now, it would take a:confused3 to get us aboard. But our hearts are with all of them.
Plus I just found out my licence will be more this year(:headache:) when I graduate in June. :cool1:

So sorry to hear about this. You must be gutted. It is so difficult when your plans rely on other people and cirumstances beyond your control. Sending :hug: Hopefully you will still have a wonderful time on your cruise, and maybe get to do your vow renewal some time in the future.

The WBTA 2011 is shaping up to be another great cruise!!

It certainly is .... mainly because there are a lot of lovely people from this thread going to be there

Dubai is my little piece of paradise. I have to say a little part of me still regrets that I could not make the job there work. I would have loved to live there. Dubai is one of those places though that you either love or hate. Fortunately Graham loves it as well.

Keep you fingers crossed for me tomorrow. My booking window at Grand Californian Villas opens tomorrow for our pre-cruise stay. I just hope I can get a studio.

The following is attributed to John Cleese. I kind of doubt it, but it's hilarious nonetheless.

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved."

Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross."

The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.

Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance."

The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

*****

The Scots have raised their threat level from "P***ed Off" to "Let's get the B******s."

They don't have any other levels.

This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British army for the last 300 years.

that is the funniest things i have read in a while - its very true

hay hi sorry not got back about a reunion would love to meet up depends on when and where

I read your posts - really sorry things have not worked out the way you wanted - i hope your well otherwise?

well for the trip it depends

the world wide trip would likely have to be Nov 2011 or Jan 2012 possible it i may be able to do it a little earlier - need to look at tickets, shots and visas

whereas the one in continental America is simplier so could start September 2011

I would likely look to take some temp work for pin money if i cannot leave until Nov 2011 or Jan 2012

Jason: nice itineraries. Having been to all these places except Fiji, I would reconsider visiting Mexico anytime soon. There are just too many reports of random violence and killings. I recently spoke with a friend whose relative (from the U.S.) was in Mexico on business and was kidnapped and held for ransom.

Next week, Mrs. Woody and I going to New Zealand for one month (our third visit). I highly recommend a layover in the Cook Islands. (Often free on Air New Zealand.) We have visited three of the islands -- Atiu, Aitutaki and Rarotonga -- and are returning to Rarotonga for three nights on a free layover. The Cook Islands are paradise. Also, if your're going all the way to NZ, I recommend visiting Sydney, Australia. It's one of our favorite places.

When we visited Thailand and Indonesia, we also visited Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

I have heard stories of buses being robbed is it really bad? advice should i really avoid mexico anywhere can be dangerous .. i heard there were some battles with government forces and drug barons but is that something a tourist needs to worry about?

Yes.

The concern in Barcelona is one could lose his wallet. In Mexico, one could lose his live.

You can replace a wallet.

In 2009, Mexico had 6,500 drug related killings. It's getting worse -- that figure more than doubled in 2010 to 15,000 killings.

Sadly, tourists are among those being killed. And it's occurring in places that were once considered safe tourist areas. 18 Tourists Kidnapped and Killed in Acapulco. Tourist Killed in Cabo San Lucas. Cancun Bar Attack. Disney Wonder Avoids Mazatlán.

There seem to be daily reports of killings and the affect on tourism.Woody

That's one... ok the main reason we have cancelled our 2 Oct "surprise " cruise with some grandkids. It's listed as alt itiniary C.
If they changed it to say San Diego, Ensenada(MX) Santa Barbara and San Francisco... I'd be back on the boat. But not now.:rolleyes1
So right now, we have plans for 7 days at Disneyland:banana:

Have a great holi Jason wherever it takes you.
