Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Good morning all.

Donna, I am glad DH is home.

Jenny, I am so sorry about your great grandmother.

By the way Jenny, my kids saw Oliver's picture, they were wondering if Oliver was coming along. I had to explain that it was just your signiture picture, and no, Oliver was not coming along for the ride. You see we too have a puppy, well no longer (she is actually 12), she will be staying with my next door neighbours house while we are away. She is a ****zu.

Jen, I hope everyone has been convinced to dress up. We are ready to go and very excited too. So who is dressing up anyway?????

Lisa, I second the "Charlie" opinion. My kids loved #1, so I guess it is hard for them to change their tune.

Have a great day everyone. Think pirate:

Jenny, I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother, but glad to hear you will be able to be with the rest of the family on Wednesday.

I'm jealous of all of you who have started packing. That is my goal for today, to get packed. Heck, I leave before most of you! I have some shopping to do, as well. Let's hope I can find everything I need today and/or tomorrow. We head out after Brian gets home tomorrow afternoon. Have to drop the rats off at their sitter's house on the way to San Jose.

We're trying to decide about which internet pkg to get once on board. We'll have our laptop, so could do the wireless, but not sure if we'll need more minutes than are available. The unlimited pkg using the ship's computers sounds like a better deal. Decisions, decisions...

Where did you find information in internet usage while on the cruise? Or what information have you found??

Jenny- I'm sorry about your grandmother. I will keep your family in my prayers.

Donna- I am so happy you finally have your husband home again. You must be so happy. I can't imagine being without my husband for so long. My friend's husband is in Iraq right now and is expected to have his furlow in November. I am sure your husband is very happy to be home also.

Steve had to take our dog to the vet this morning to "send her to Heaven". It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make but I know she is much better now. At least I don't have to worry about her anymore.

See you all soon.

I'm sorry abt your g-grandma Jenny. My your family remember her with love and laughter on Wednesday.

Trisha & Steve, sorry abt your doggie. I know you had been dreading the decision.

Good luck packing, etc. to everyone -- sounds like it is coming together.

Jen, you are cracking me up -- unpacking. I have my dresses individually in hanging drycleaners bags, still hung up, in my closet. I still can't decide what all shorts to take, and still have a few dinner "what to wear" decisions to make.

Must get back to work. Swamped.

Jenny, so very sorry to hear about your great grandmother. Like you said it's what was best for her and she is now in a far better place. Glad you get to be off and be with family. :wizard:

Trisha and Steve sorry about your doggie, I know that was hard to do at any time and right before you leave can't make it any better. :wizard:

Hope everyone has a blessed day. :goodvibes

Does anyone know if the computers onboard have USB ports? If I were to bring just my card reader and some disks could I backup my pics? Do you need an internet account to get on the computers if they do have USB?

Thanks.

Trisha, I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy. It's amazing what those little creatures will do to our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. :grouphug: and :wizard: :paw:

Ksumom, no they don't have USB ports. Your not allowed to plug anything into their computers. For pictures, you'd have to take the memory stick to Shutters and have them put them on a disk or print them for you. The disk is around $14 I think. More than likely wrong on that one.

One idea I've suggested before for people. Do you have an iPod? If it is one of the older ones, not the new color ones, you can buy a media card reader to plug into it. It's a little pricey, but you can use the iPod to store the pics until you get home, then you don't have to invest in more memory sticks. The only downside is once you save them to the iPod, you can't view them.

I've been debating on bringing my laptop for picture purposes, I don't have an Ipod. I'll figure out how much stuff I'll be lugging around & go :confused3 from there!

Hadn't even thought about the IPod thing... I do have an IPod photo (my Mother's Day present this year), but haven't ever put photos on it. I don't even know how!

Trisha and Steve, I'm so sorry about your dog; what a difficult decision to make.

Happy Monday to all of you! (Mondays are usually not happy at all for me, but I just consider today as the first day of my vacation week!..It's getting me through! )

Jenny-I'm sorry to hear about your Great Grandma. But if there is one thing that is comforting, it's that she is out of her pain and in a great place. (Or the "Best Place" like Emily quoted her pastor...I really like that!) And you will be able to go on vacation with the comfort of knowing that she is where she is supposed to be, and that she won't be feeling any more pain. :grouphug:

Trisha-I'm sorry about your dog. :sad1:
I know how tough that decision is to make. But just know that if your dog was in pain, then you made the right decision.
Hopefully you can take comfort in the fact that you put him out of his pain. :grouphug:

Well, I have to give credit to those of you who are packed already! I have not really even begun! I have a tote filled with odds and ends that I don't want to forget, and I have a stack of clothes that are ready to be packed, but I think that the actually packing won't happen until Thursday. I took the day off on Thursday so that I wouldn't have to rush packing. (Normally I would have worked Monday-Thursday, and then I would have been up until 3am Friday morning feverishly packing! So, you see, I planned ahead this time!!! ::yes:: )

We had quite a busy weekend! Douglas and JD (our cruising buddies) are running a marathon in January for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. So they are now in the process of raising their sponsor money. (they each have to raise $4,000) So we went to Salem IL (where JD grew up) on Saturday (about a 2 hour drive from here) and sat out in front of WalMart all day in the sun collecting money. (we raised $100 for the day, and my employer should match it, so we'll end up with $200. -Not too shabby) It really is amazing how many people have been affected by cancer. I couldn't believe how many walked up to us and told us that they were just finishing chemo, or their brother, mother, father, (sons and daughters even) have been stricken with cancer. One mother broke down in tears telling about her son who passed away recently from a blood-related cancer. It's just really moving. (and this is just a small town in middle America...)

Then, Saturday evening I went and got my hair trimmed and highlighted, and Jen--I too got "waxed" :scared1:

So then yesterday, we went and got a new camera!!! Yayy!!!
We were wanting a new one for a while, and could just not justify the expense. But what more justification do you need than a Disney Cruise!!!
Our old camera is 2.0 megapixels and 8X optical zoom. The quality was always good, but just not GREAT. SO...Best Buy had a Kodak Easy Share on closeout (I can't remember which model) But it's 5.0 mp, and 10X optical zoom. So our vacation pics should be MUCH better quality! YAYY!!!

Then I worked a little more on getting the house spotless before we leave. (yeah, right! Like I'll ever achieve SPOTLESS!!! LOL) But I moved big furniture and vacuumed underneath, that sort of stuff. I feel like we really got a lot done this weekend! Good thing it's only a 3-day work week! Otherwise I would feel like I needed another weekend just to recoup from the weekend!!

Anyway, I'd better get back to work. I've been typing this post all morning off and on, so it's time for me to get back to work. I have to get 5 days work done in 3. Wish me luck!!!

-Christal

Trisha & Steve...sorry about your dog:( The dog and cat that I have are the first pets I have really ever had. We had strays growing up...not like a real pet which is actually a family memeber. I dread the day I have to face what you are going through.

Well, trying to get though all the info that you have to fill out prior to boarding!! :teeth: There are six of us going soooo feel like I need a vacation from that. :rotfl2:
It is just so hard to stay focused on WORK right now...when all I can think of is what else do I need to get??? :earseek: DD just got in from school so she's out mowing the yard, when DS gets in the porch/deck has to be cleaned and cleared. pirate: I know so little time and everyone HAS to help get ready. We have begun the packing senerio...suitcasees, garmet bags, and carryon's seem to be everywhere. Jen I bet it is hard to pack for two weeks!! :earseek: Have to pick up clothes at the cleaners this evening or tomorrow. I just keep thinking "this time next week" no matter what I'm doing (especially if I'm doing something I don't want to do like....WORK!!) :earboy2: This time next week..yeah I can make it :rotfl: DGS got his hair cut...he looks so cute :love2: He popped off his top shirt button on his dress shirt and I told him I'd sew it back on....he brings me his Dash underwear shows me a little tinny hole (probably 'cause DH used to much bleach) told me I just had to sew that up, not to worry about the button, he didn't like that anyway. :rotfl: Kids are so funny, you got to love those moments they don't stay young for long. :flower:
Well I have a conference call at 2:00 so I better start earning my paycheck :earboy2:

Hello, all!

Just checking in at lunch. Jenny, I am so sorry to hear about your Great Grandmother and Trish and Steve- so sorry about your dog. My deepest sympathies to you.

3 1/2 days of work left, woo hoo! At home I find myself working on stuff for the Office and today while I am at work, I am working on my packing "checklists". I didn't know that Shutters will download your photos to a disk, that is good to know. Expensive, but good to know. I have been trying to figure out how many memory sticks to bring.

I know we have talked about our Must-have items when we go on a cruise. I thought maybe we each could list one packing item that maybe someone else had forgotten- to help us all out with our endless packing this week.

My item- the one-time use waterproof cameras for snorkeling and beach play!

I forgot to do my Disney Document dance on my message last night, I had been waiting a long time to finally do it. :cool1:  :cool1:

Have a good day!

1 more thing-

In regards to the Internet Cafe- The Passporter books says there are Internet cafes at some of the Ports we will visit for much cheaper- .10-.20/minute versus the .75/minute on the ship.

It also says the Internet Cafe on board offers some free time on the internet, the times will be listed in the Navigator but the book says it is very crowded, of course.

Well what I did (which may or may not work for all) is I blackmaled all of my friends who have a camera. I said loan me your memory stick ( chances are they are the same) not the camera, or I will show your spouse pictures of you that they shouldn't know of,,lol. Upon returning from trip, transfer pics. to computer or whereever erase memory stick and return to friends. Just have to label each little case to be sure you give each person back the correct amount of memory. Hope that may help some of you guys and Ladies. Save a few bucks that way. I hope all who are or have family members(including pets) with health problems are feeling much better soon. "Oh and as far as the wrinkled clothes go,,, I sacrifice the purchase of one or two photos to have my clothes( at best 2 suits and 2 dresses " wifes of course") pressed on the ship, so I just pack my suits in suitcase that eliminates the bag as well.
:thewave: Five more waves,, I mean Days.
