Sept 17 2005 Magic - am i alone on the ship?

Sue,

Glad you have power back! I have been watching the news and it is aweful! I am so glad you did not get it bad.

BTW...Jen, who is Gina (I think that is who you have been wondering about)?? I have friends in Pensecola...but I do not think they got much of the hurricane. All I know is my girlfriend from Pensecola came to Ohio with her 3 weeks old and her 3 year old on Sunday just in case it hit them. Her husband stayed...he is in the Navy. But I am sure he is ok becasue she has not called me today to tell me anything different.

How about one of each in the Mens. If they have boy's, I would love to have two. You are the best! I can actually mail you a check before the cruise if you would like.
I will check tomorrow and let you know, and no (about payment), just wait and I'll see you on the ship, I'll probably pack them with the rest of our formal wear so they won't get wrinkled. I'll let you know what I come up with. :goodvibes

Hey everyone,

Well, it has rained all day long here in north central Ohio. It's been flooding in Cincinnati (how are you doing, John?), and we're supposed to get 2-4 inches overnight. Yuck.

Jen, the mural was really neat. I'd like to have artistic talent like that.

Sue, GLAD TO HAVE YOU BACK!!!!! I'm glad you fared well.

Emily, I was starting to worry about you; thanks for posting.

How is everyone taking their formal wear? We have hanging garment bags, and I'd like to be able to take them on board the plane and ask the flight attendant to hang it up, but Delta's site says two checked bags per person and one carry-on. So, ideas and suggestions are welcome. I know some of you lucky people have kids that you can use a garment bag as a checked item, but us duo groups have no such luck.

Not much else is new. Oh, I'm going to make copies of our passports (which I got yesterday), driver's licenses, and credit cards for safety purposes for the trip. DSis thinks it's silly, but as several other cruisers have noted, if the passport is lost or stolen, having a copy of it at least allows us to start getting the problem fixed sooner.

Anyways, talk to you later!

It has rained all day here in central Ohio as well...but I guess we should feel lucky that all we are getting is rain!

Jenny, I may have asked you this before, but where in Northern Ohio do you live?

Lisa

Jenny, Lately when I have flown they have been very strict on the carryon rules. They say one carryon and one personal item, like a purse...they wouldn't even let you have 2 carryons and a purse (so naturally I shoved the purse into the carryon...see my authority issues) This was with America West so it maybe airline specific but keep in mind. What is the prob? That you can only have 2 bags and you have 2 bags and hanging bag? I know you can pay extra....is it a lot?

Gina, was my best friend when she moved 9 years ago. She is one of so many that has the worst things happen to her time and again. I have been trying to get her to move here forever because I think she would have a better chance of meeting someone. My husband said she could live here for a while. It is either too expensive or too scary. It just makes me sick. I did find the Pascagoula paper online so I can kindo of follow what is going on. I talked to her ex (jerk) and he said he was going out there if he hadn't heard from her (his son) by Friday. Anyway, it's been a tough day but the sun will come up again tomorrow and there is no sense going crazy until I have something to go crazy about. AND...................................

SEEMS TO ME THERE IS A CRUISE COMING UP         I can't wait! No more downer messages! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Thanks for continually letting me vent.

Lisa, I live in Ashland - about 1 hr 15 minutes north of Columbus. Take 71 north, exit 186. :) Pretty easy. About 20,000 people. I like it here. :)

Jen, yes I will have two checked bags, and Melissa will have one checked bag; I think we might need two garment bags for all our dresses/skirts. Just asked her what she thought - she thinks the skirts I'm taking and our other dresses (not formals) can be packed in the luggage and hung up and ironed when we arrive. What do you guys think? Would you do this?

Night all!

Gosh, I leave for 24 hrs and I have 4.5 pp of posts to catch up on! I have no documents; Jen, I'll e-mail the cell phone numbers to you manana; Sue, glad you have power back. I know there is more to say, but I'm sorta pooped. Went to Kansas City for the day for work. Gas jumped 21 cents here from last night to this morning. We had lines at the gas stations last night b/c people heard it was going to happen. Propane jumped 20 cents a gallon as well. I have studied this issue and still cannot articulate a real answer for why fuel prices have skyrocketed?! Yes, there is more demand, yes we've had some disasters, but talk abt inflation. I think mainly there are some energy traders getting very, very rich. And we are getting soaked by OPEC. More than one way to skin a cat -- OK, enough of my rant. Jen, I hope your friend is OK.

Missy, I saw you mentioned Ocean Isle -- as in Ocean Isle Beach? My family rented a beach house there for a week for a couple of summers some years back. I love that place! I haven't been since 1996, but it is such a great family beach. I hope it hasn't changed much in the past 9 yrs. It was actually few months before I met DH and I met a guy out there and very seriously considered trying to move to Wilmington or Myrtle Beach. A very cool area. Love Ocean Isle. Anyway, off to bed. Happy planning all -- we are getting CLOSE!

Woo Hoo!

I forgot abt your question -- we took one garment bag last year -- DH's suit, sportcoat, shirt and nice slacks and my formal. Put each item in an individual dry cleaners bag. Checked them with the airline. Did not need any ironing or pressing. The rest we packed and again some stuff in the individual drycleaners bags really helped. We didn't have to re-iron anything.

I've also read on the threads that you can have your clothes sent "out" to be pressed by DCL and that it is pretty reasonable. I'm sure you can find out the price on the big board. I'm sure that's where I've read it. Maybe even in the "tips" pages. One garment bag should do you, I'd think. I may have had a few other dresses in there too. Not a bog garment bag, just the one that goes with the luggage I bought myself as a law school grad gift (meaning it's 13 yrs old!).

Night-night. W.

Jenny, I think the idea to pack the skirts, rather than put them in garment bags, is a good idea. You could always use some of that fabric refresher on them before you hang them up... I've done that with some of dh's shirts and it really helps wrinkles fall out.

I am making a mental list of what clothes to pack. You'd think I'd learn not to trust my mind, but to put it all on paper. We'll probably start packing a couple of days before we leave. Our garment bag will have the girls' dresses for formal night, dh's jacket, maybe my new outfit as well. I have some casual dresses I'll be taking, but those will pack easily. I may bring the fabric refresher with us just in case. We'll have a ton of luggage, as traveling light isn't too easy when you're packing for 6!

SUE!!!! So glad you're back in business!!!!! Good to see your post!

Jen, Your mural is AWESOME!!! I will continue to keep your friend Gina in my prayers along with all of the people affected by Katrina. :grouphug:

Jenny, we have one of those suit bags...(the vinyl kind with a zipper). I'm going to go to the dry cleaners, and try to get a few bags from them. I will pack each of our pieces in a seperate cleaner bag, then pack it all in the suit bag. I'll pack the suit bag in a big checked bag, and hopefully the stuff won't be too bad when we get there. ( I know, I'm nuts!!!) :confused3

Well, I'm about konked out...So good night everyone...Jen, I'll get you my info in the morning. :)

-Christal

Jen, that mural is AWESOME! Looooooove it! :flower1:

Stayed up to watch some of the New Orleans/Mississippi stuff. Awful. My dad lives down there and he was telling me the death toll was going to be horrible and I didn't understand b/c of the advance warning -- but the floods and other problems are unbelievable. I lived in Miami when Andrew hit, but this seems so much worse, and poor New Orleans, sitting there waiting to be taken over by the water. Prayers for the people there and people going there to assist. I remember meeting folks in Miami who had been away from their families for over 6 months, fixing all the infrastructure. It is truly horrible, but I just feel like we will soon be hearing amazing stories of human kindness and bravery and other adjectives I can't come up with right now...

Docs- NO :hyper:
Rain-Yes :umbrella:
Cruisin' in 16 days-

Sue- glad to hear you are up and runnin'
Jen- outstanding mural.
Jenny- the copy thing sounds like a good idea. I may have to do ours.
Wendy- any decision on a camcorder yet?
To everyone else- :wave2:

Off to bed. Talk to ya'll later.

BRAD :teeth:

I can't beleive I beat you all to the first post of the day. It is time for some updates from one of the silent ones:

For the past two days I have been on a mission. Unfortunately, I can't say that I have read every post. But I can say that my printer is over worked. You see I take the train into work (40 minutes each way) and while others do the snore thing, I usually read. That is what I have been doing. Reading... Reading....Reading... The stories and comment are great. Although you may not know me, boy do I know all of you.....

To all those affected by Katrina, I hope all is well. I woke up early this morning to the winds and rain. And that is after she traveled 2,000 miles to get here in Toronto. Amazing.

pirate: Well my kids are doing the pirate dance. Both Jessica (7) and Christopher (6) picked out their pirate costumes last night. Jessica chose the fitting "Drama Queen - Pirate with an attitude" costume, while Christopher couldn't help going for the "Captain Jack Sparrow". And might I say they were playing in the costumes for hours last night. I think they are really getting excited. I am just trying to convince DH to dress as "Captain Jack Sparrow, Sr." Any encouraging words would help.

:confused3 And I am still waiting for the docs. I too am with Allseas.

We cruised August 2003, and collected many autographs. This time I was hoping to just drop off a 12X12 piece of cardstock (that has been decorated with Disney character pictures) to the front desk, similar to the Pillowcase idea. I figure I can frame them when we get home, to remind the kids of the trip. Does anyone know how small they can autograph, and how many autographs I can expect? My writing space is getting a little small, after all the pictures.

I have finally booked my excursions, but am sol on Palo. Anyone know if DCL hold back any of the reservations?

By the way:
Jen - you are quite the artist
Wendy – hope your Dad is well
Jenny – the PM is coming regarding door signs, hope I am not too late
And Jenny again - although there are 16 traveling in my party, I am the only one who has been on the boards, so yes 1 reminder is fine for us.

Take care everyone,
Lisa (#2 I think)

Good Morning everyone!!!

KNOCK KNOCK!!

WHO'S THERE?

ORANGE!

ORANGE WHO???

ORANGE YOU GLAD WE ONLY HAVE 16 DAYS LEFT?!?!?!!? :rotfl:

(ok, so that was lame...but it got your attention, eh?)
But, you at least chuckled, didn't you??? :confused3

Lisa, good to see you! As for your ressies, I've read that DCL does hold out some ressies for Palo, spa, excursions, etc for those unable to book online. You shouldn't have a problem.

Have a great day everyone!!!
-Christal

Lisa (the other Lisa never posts), Great to hear from you!!!! I heard they hold 60% of the Palo reservations until we board :confused3 Let's hope so. What do you do in Toronto?
Christal, Got your PM. Thanks  Cute joke!
Okay, it is about time for the rest of you to get your docs (Brad, Renee, Lisa, Jenny, Wendy) Still plenty of time but come on! We need to shake a little boogie and do a doc dance :cool1:
Missy, I had a dream about you last night....I dreamed I saw you exactly as I pictured you but it was Mary and then you come in and look like Mary from the Bachelor (gorgeous latin beauty, suffice it to say)... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: So now I know what you look like and will keep my eye out for you. The whole dream was actually a stress dream, not really focused on fantasizing about your beauty :rotfl2: :rotfl2: like forgetting my money when I went to the excursion, sleeping through immigration, etc. Must be getting close!
Wendy, Where does your dad live...right there? Is he alright? Scary!

I think sending out things to be pressed on the ship is 1.75 for shirts. There was a post somewhere about it. I will see if I can dig it up.

Today was my first Wednesday at home. My work and I have agreed to let me work from home every Wednesday because od DS(3) starting pre-school. He does not actually start until Sept 13th...but I started my schedule change today! I am so excited about it! I actually worked my butt off Momday and Tuesday so that I would not have much to do today! If I can keep that up, Wednesday will be pretty much an 'on-call' type of situation. So since I slept in today...well I actually got up and took DS(1&3) to daycare at their normal time...7am...and then came back home and went back to sleeep!!!!!!!!!! Man it was nice!!!!!!!!! Now I have until 3 to be 'on-call' and do whatever I can think of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally.. I have to actually work for a few days & get totally lost on the board!! How dare this place actually expect me to work for my money!! :rotfl: Everyone around here has been a buzz trying to get ready to go to trial in WV next week, so needless to say my sitting around has come to an end.... but that's good, busy is good!!

Jen... I LOVE your mural!! You are so talented!!

I've also been trying to somewhat keep up with the whole LA flooding, and I too thought "They knew for weeks it was coming so why didn't they get out" Well, I heard on the news this AM that a lot of people down there are low income & depend on public transport to get around, and there was no public transport out of the city, so therefore they're stuck. Those of us who have cars kinda take them for granet (sp?). I know I do.. I just assume everyone has one! So from what I hear if you didn't have a car to pack your belongings in & leave that you were stuck...

Happy Late Anniversary to you Jen!! Congrats on the doc dance!!

Ok.. I've been trying to post this for about 20 min now.. I'm going to post before I get distracted again!!

Glad to see Sue back! Got lonely being the only Susan on board!!

Did you get much damage around the house from the storm??
