do people dress up for villains night?? is that another costume we will need?

You don't need a costume for villains night, last year DISers wore black/purple that night, so we were going to do the same again this year.

I've got a black cocktail dress and wearing a purple pashmina :thumbsup2

DH is wearing a purple shirt and black slacks :)

:rotfl: At least i'd have plenty of outfits to choose from for Villains night.

We used skoosh.com which was quite good for central hotels with family rooms for our June cruise when we are travelling with DD :thumbsup2

Just figured out that DS and I can check 1 bag each (no more than 50 pounds) and can each take on a carry-on and 1 personal item. Sheesh....how am I gonna cram all our clothing requirements into that?:confused3

I believe that is going to limit our "dressy" attire to some slacks and sweaters (maybe 1, no more than 2 dresses for me) and his slacks and jacket. There goes my dream of a gown for formal night! I did think about just checking 1 more bag, but its $60 now and that is just flatly ridiculous...particularly since we're flying to LaGuardia and have to move everything to JFK to then go on to Barcelona.

Sigh....whatever happened to the good old days of checking 2 bags, getting decent food and hot towels on arrival? Now one is nickeled and dimed for every little thing....next thing you know you're ticket will only guarantee you a flight and you'll have to pay extra to sit down!:rotfl2:

Must rethink the packing strategy now. FE items, SM items, scrapbook exchange items, shoes, toiletries....oh yes, and clothing!

I've been looking at shipping a box ahead to the hotel, with things like my FE stuff. For those of us in the States, the cost for Priority mail to Spain, max 20lbs in a 12"x12"x5.5" flat rate box is $58.50 ($55.58 if you pay online). I tried plugging in some other numbers and a 25lb. package with various dimensions was $99. They did have some limits on the box size - max. length 60", max. length plus girth combined 108". Shipping time is 6-10 business days.

It's pretty pricey, so I'm thinking we may just suck it up and pay for one extra checked bag. It's a bit of a trade-off though. I like the idea of NOT having to lug around an extra bag. Three checked bags + 2 carry-ons b/w 2 people :crazy2: might just have us killing each other before we get anywhere near the ship! :rotfl:

But I'm absolutely NOT giving up bringing my fancy dresses - especially if/when I meet my weight-loss goal (having doubts - bad weekend). I may have to reallocate the weight allowance. I could limit Dennis to 30lbs, and I get 70lbs. Seems fair to me! ;)

I think that's why MandyGirl booked the Hotel Universal Barcelona, as she also had a problem getting a room for 2 ad 2 ch.

Karen, we're in the same position. That's why I was going to leave all toiletries etc till I got to Gibraltar. Save on weight that way. I'm going to have to be very careful on what I buy.

Hi everyone ... I know you already know this info but I received this email today from Morrissons PLC

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email.

The Gibraltar National day celebrations are always held on the 10th of September regardless of the day. As this year it falls on a weekend, the 12th has been named the bank holiday.

Unless the government announces otherwise we will close on the 10th but open on the 12th with reduced opening hours - probably 9-7. However the hours are yet to be confirmed.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

You could use the vacuum bags. I know that we have saved alot of room with those and then you can get the extra light things in.

Last year when we went on the Med. cruise, for months before the cruise I read all these messages religiously to gather what I would need for the cruise (toiletries, clothes, etc.). I was amazed at how much less I could have packed and taken. There were clothes I never used, items recommended to pack I didn't need, etc. So this year, I'm going to try and go with "less is more". Now with all that being said, you know I'll not pack all this stuff and will definitely wish that I had packed more. :confused3;)

Let's hope I don't regret this decision!!!!

I am determined to underpack for this trip.....we always take way too much, half of it never gets worn and we end up washing & wearing the same clothes over again anyway.

Less is definately more. :thumbsup2
