*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

Good Morning everyone , lots of posting overnight
Noel it must be so upsetting for you about the lanyards and pins a problem you didn’t need, especially since you made it clear how you wanted it handled. I’m sure this problem will be sorted but am just so sorry you have this hassle. Sending you hugs :grouphug::grouphug:

Today is the day, DS driving test is today, he’s feeling a little stressie ( so am I ). Poor him it’s raining and he’s also been told the driving test centre is being audited and as well as the test examiner and his driving instructor he may also have a driving test auditor in the car, making a total of four people !!.... a bit over the top I feel, but I’m sure he will be ok. So after he passes next week will be spent out driving gaining motorway experience, and maybe a lift to the airport on the 9th would be very good !

You OWN 21 DRESSES????:faint:

21 dresses !!!! I am impressed !!! If I brought 21 dresses then poor Tony would be going to dinner every night in boxer shorts :scared1:

:rotfl2: and most of those items at the back of the wardrobe that have been there for simply ages were bought mega mega cheap in a sale and were such bargains that you just couldn't leave them there ;);)

Yes I was amazed I had that many dresses:lmao:..... but I have to admitt that I have even more than that and they fit :scared1::scared1:
It's helped by the fact I've managed to lose 2 stone 11lb and am hope I can reach the 3 stone mark by the cruise. So I've found that a lot of my old favourite dresses now fit as well. One down side is I brought a couple of nice dresses and now they are too big :rotfl2::rotfl2: but I can live with that. I will get them altered but I have so much choice now ( always a problem for me ) I don't need too.

And yes karen I love a bargain, I simply can't pass one by, you are a woman after my own heart . Men just don't understand that concept... DH will go out and buy what he wants when he needs it, more or less regardless of price, but I like the thrill of getting a bargain and think I've spent less, so I end up buying more !!!! lol such a shame that !

I am looking for opinions on this: I work in a very public place, so I always get a flu shot in the fall. It seems a bit early, but my local Walgreen's has a big sign announcing that "FLU SHOTS ARE AVAILABLE NOW!" Since we'll be flying in germ-ridden airplanes and stopping in germ-ridden airports, I am wondering if it might be smart to get the shot before I go. What do you think? Better early?

Thanks for any advice,
Karen

Hi karen, I presume you have a jab every winter, how do you react to them ? I know when I've had them in the past they tend to make me a little ill afterwards. But you do have a long flight lol that wasn't much help !!

I'm up to 6 dresses - so far. Practical? What's that mean? :confused3 This is why I'm buying that second checked bag.

Okay, so I was trying on a dress I bought on ebay, and it has a side zip, which I couldn't seem to get to the top. So I asked Dennis to zip it for me and... he caught my skin in the zipper. :scared1: Owww! He apologized profusely and raved over the dress (it did look pretty good), and I said, "Okay, unzip me," and... he did it again, only lower! The poor guy felt sooo bad, and I had to explain to him that there were assorted fat rolls on me and he needed to zip and unzip slooowwwly! :rotfl2:

Pat I know what you mean about deciding what to pack it's a nightmare. LOL as for Dennis he's needs more practice!!! that can be so painful. Just tell him practice makes perfect :rotfl2:

I agree with you and Pat, we love the opportunity to get dressed up and make the most of it on the cruise.

It must be his military training, DH doesn't miss a thing he is soooo observant, he knows exactly what I have in my wardrobe, no matter how old. I don't get away with it :rotfl2:

I'm getting excited now, this time in 2 weeks we will be packed and ready to go and will be making the first leg of our journey to Edinburgh, catching the flight to London later on this evening :woohoo:

Yes I totally agree, I'm looking forward to the dressing up, but by the end of two weeks it may be a different story, because at my age the whole dressing up thing takes longer :scared1:

It's a good job my DH is not so observant, I would be getting myself into all sorts of trouble:laughing::laughing::laughing:

I am looking forward to our coffee that morning and we may even see josh since he's on our flight !

Dan so glad you have your docs now, the magic is getting nearer:thumbsup2

...I have never had a flu jab ...

I guess we've got overkill in the US - I had my first flu shot at age 6 mos (back in 1961). I didn't have them every year since then - there have probably been entire decades when I didn't get one.

I thought I would keep a list of all the birthdays on board. This is what I have so far, so if anyone is missing from the list, or you could fill in names and cabin numbers if you have them, that would be great. If you are on this list send me a PM with you room numbers if you have them. I thought it would be nice to know so we can wish people a Happy Birthday when we see them.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:LOL after reading my post DH tells me it’s not that he is not observant, but he gave up years ago passing any comments on my clothes buying antics. He’s more intuitive than I give him credit for sometimes. That’s maybe the reason we will be celebrating our 25th anniversary onboard

Trying to print out ESTA approval page and I know someone clearly stated what page I should print a while back but I can't find it. :confused3
Can someone please tell me again?

You have to print your conformation.
You must log on with your esta with your applicationnumber (that was given the first time you make the esta) your birthday/year and pasportnumber.
You then will get the form what said authorization approved. There is a print button. Click on that and there is the form that you have to bring with you.
If you have to change things you can do it with the button update.
I hope you can find it now.
Good Luck

GOOD Morning, Happy Cruisers!

:lmao: GOSH! I hope everyone is going to wear SOMETHING besides the shirt. (ya gotta watch that Claire, though:rotfl2:)

Congratulations!

Photos Onboard Question:

This concerns those nice white background professional photos taken on the ship: is there an extra fee or are they just considered another 8x10 photo (requiring 2 credits or $19.95)?

Do you just walk up and get in line when they are working or do you make an appointment?

As someone else mentioned - just get in line - AND be prepared to remove your shoes. BEST photo EVER.

THANK YOU, Sarah! Great idea.

Noel, I am pretty sure that the Post Office at the incorrect zip code will just make the correction and send it on.

Seems early, but I might get it anyway. I always get one, but I know my doc has it planned for October.

. . .

OW!

Thanks Linda. I hope it will make for a nice photo, but who knows what our faces will be doing when they are caught on film  We like to meet the characters, but rarely do the photo ops too.

I will probably bring a black dress for the semi-formal but I'm torn b/c I really am a color person, in casual wear and in fancy dresses, I just like color! But that makes it hard for travel due to shoes, so I don't know what I'm going to bring. I am going shopping with a friend this weekend though, so there may be a whole new dress (or shoes, or both!) added to the menagerie. ;)

I love color too, B&TB, but it's easier for me to travel with one basic color that goes with everything.

Yes, they are as I paid with a credit card. I have told them I will contest the bill as I specified insured UPS and paid extra for insurance.

If they don't find it soon, I am demanding they make news and ship overnight at THEIR EXPENSE!! If not, I will just contest it on my credit card and they will be out the cost as I have all my correspondence with the company.

GOOD JOB! (I wouldn't want to be them!)

Happy Day, all!

I have never had a flu jab but I imagine if you regularly have one and don't have any side effects then it may be a good idea. I have just started taking echinacea, zinc and efferevescent vit C in preparation for the trip.
I get a flu shot every year at work; this year, they're being offered the first day I get back from the trip, so I'll be waiting until then. Larry has a bout of vertigo every autumn, which may or may not be related to the shot, so he will forgo it this year as a precaution.

Are you taking Airborne?

I hope Irene doesn't affect anyone here too badly. Stay safe.

We have flash flood and tropical storm watches in effect for the next 48 hours. Although, a bigger worry seems to be for structures damaged in the earthquake which there hasn't been time yet to repair. For example, they did a second inspection of the Washington Monument yesterday and the damage was worse than they thought at first. Apparently, you can see daylight from the inside in places where there should be solid wall. The National Cathedral sustained millions of dollars worth of damage, although that is reported to be more "cosmetic" (all the lovely stonework) rather than structural. Crews are busy all over the area just trying to secure damaged structures enough to stay put during Irene.

We were watching an old rerun of "Little House on the Prairie" last night (or maybe the night before) and I just started laughing when it was the episode where a tornado hits Walnut Grove. Seemed to fit in perfectly with the weather week we're having around here! :rotfl2:

Just checking things off the packing list and hoping to pick the brains of the regular DCL cruisers.

1. Do staterooms have hairdryers? And if so are they adequate? (stayed in hotels before and it would have been better to run around fast than use the hairdryers provided!!)

2. What type of sockets are in the staterooms? I'm assuming they will be the 2 pin US 110v sockets.

3. Does anyone know where in the UK you can get the door hanging storage thingys. Tried IKEA and they looked at me like I was speaking a different language.

Hope you guys can help,

Not long now :cool1::cool1:

Thanks in advance

Paul, Helen & Grace

I'm pretty sure they do, but since I don't use them, I didn't really pay attention.

US 3-pin sockets.

I am sure I read somewhere that there is both an American and Uk socket in the room. Re the hanging thingy have you tried Wilkinsons.

The hairdryers are fine if you just want to dry your hair. It may not be adequate, if you use it to style.

Sockets are normal 3 pin US sockets and there are only 2 of them, on the desk. The wave phones will be plugged in to one of them. I suggest taking an extension cord with multiplugs or a power strip with multiple plugs if you have many things that need charging.

Wave phones? It's been a few years since I was last on a Disney cruise, and I don't recognize this term :confused3
