*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 6

I am sure I read somewhere that there is both an American and Uk socket in the room. Re the hanging thingy have you tried Wilkinsons.

PS Paul I have seen your picture what do want an hairdryer for?:laughing:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: the hairdryer question was 100% for Helen & Grace!!!

I'm trying to eliminate things that we need to take or I'll be laid up for the cruise with a bad back - I'm sure Helen only brings me to carry the luggage. Think a pack horse

Thanks everyone for the info. I was sure I'd read somewhere that there were US & UK plugs but people have said different things.

Thanks for the info on the door storage. I'll have a look

Paul

Thanks everyone for the info

Wave phones? It's been a few years since I was last on a Disney cruise, and I don't recognize this term :confused3

They put 2 phones in each room so if you have someone's room #, you can call each other, or the other phone. They don't ring, they vibrate. The charger winds up blocking the outlet making the second plug unusable, so bring a multi-outlet strip to plug in anything else. Also, when we sailed in June, there was no more propeller clock, so you may want to bring a little travel clock. I always travel with my Pampered chef clock timer - I use it as an alarm clock too, or to take a 30 min siesta.
I think the Wonder has been stocked with i-phone docking stations which has a clock function too, but they were not in the Magic yet. Maybe they're coming?:confused3

I am sorry to be a party pooper, but I am going to wear trousers as well. :upsidedow

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am looking forward to our coffee that morning and we may even see josh since he's on our flight !

margaret

Margaret well done you on the weight loss :thumbsup2 keep up the good work, you have 2 weeks to lose 3 lbs - you can do it :woohoo:

Looking forward to seeing you in departures :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Just checking things off the packing list and hoping to pick the brains of the regular DCL cruisers.

1. Do staterooms have hairdryers? And if so are they adequate? (stayed in hotels before and it would have been better to run around fast than use the hairdryers provided!!)

2. What type of sockets are in the staterooms? I'm assuming they will be the 2 pin US 110v sockets.

3. Does anyone know where in the UK you can get the door hanging storage thingys. Tried IKEA and they looked at me like I was speaking a different language.

Hope you guys can help,

Not long now :cool1::cool1:

Thanks in advance

Paul, Helen & Grace

Hiya

1. The dryers are awful, you would be better running round deck 4 than using the dryer in the bathroom. I have thick hair and it took me about 30 mins to dry mine one time. I bought a US travel hairdryer in walmart one year, for that simple reason. If you have a travel hairdryer with a USA setting, I would go for that

2. There are a few sockets, US 2 pin ones. There is a handy spare socket behind the flat screen tv. We use that to charge the iphones/ipods because it is out of the way - we discovered them by accident :thumbsup2

3. If you do an ebay search for "hanging shoe organiser" they are a few £s.

My dog always pouts... She used to get in my suitcase while I was packing.. and not looking.. and she would leave a little present.. guess she wanted to pack her s***. Anyway one time my DH was leaving to go on a trip for business. I told him not to leave the lid open on the suitcase if he was not in the room. He listened and all was well. Well... sorta... he was getting dressed the next morning and he was about to put his shoe on when..... well something came rolling out! She found a way to make sure he did not forget he left her at home!.... and really she is house broken!

:lmao:Oh no!! I am glad we have our suitcases too high up for them to reach.

Photos Onboard Question:

This concerns those nice white background professional photos taken on the ship: is there an extra fee or are they just considered another 8x10 photo (requiring 2 credits or $19.95)?
Do you just walk up and get in line when they are working or do you make an appointment?
Thanks for asking I was wondering about this also
I thought I would keep a list of all the birthdays on board. This is what I have so far, so if anyone is missing from the list, or you could fill in names and cabin numbers if you have them, that would be great. If you are on this list send me a PM with you room numbers if you have them. I thought it would be nice to know so we can wish people a Happy Birthday when we see them.

I will be celebrating my birthday on the cruise.
Wave phones? It's been a few years since I was last on a Disney cruise, and I don't recognize this term :confused3

The wave phones are much like cell phones. The do not have any holders for them so I bring a pouch to keep mine in. They are usable all over the ship and a great way to keep in touch. You no longer need to bring walkie talkie's....

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: the hairdryer question was 100% for Helen & Grace!!!
I would not depend on the hair dryers unless you have short fine hair! They are very weak.... I always take my own and my hair usually dries very fast....

Okay, so I was trying on a dress I bought on ebay, and it has a side zip, which I couldn't seem to get to the top. So I asked Dennis to zip it for me and... he caught my skin in the zipper. :scared1: Owww! He apologized profusely and raved over the dress (it did look pretty good), and I said, "Okay, unzip me," and... he did it again, only lower! The poor guy felt sooo bad, and I had to explain to him that there were assorted fat rolls on me and he needed to zip and unzip slooowwwly! :rotfl2:

OUCH! I feel your pain! I had to chuckle at this because that's happened to me before and you look down and see your skin in the zipper.....makes it hurt twice as bad just looking at it! :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Can I just add that the wave phones work on castaway cay too :thumbsup2

Down side $250 fine if you lose one. They supply 2 in every room, along with your standard telephone :)

Today is the day, DS driving test is today, he’s feeling a little stressie ( so am I ). Poor him it’s raining and he’s also been told the driving test centre is being audited and as well as the test examiner and his driving instructor he may also have a driving test auditor in the car, making a total of four people !!.... a bit over the top I feel, but I’m sure he will be ok. So after he passes next week will be spent out driving gaining motorway experience, and maybe a lift to the airport on the 9th would be very good !

margaret

Hope it's good news re. the driving test result pixiedust:

I don't know if I will bother with the phone ... I will probably lose it and I also like to be away from technology on vacation .... spend too much time on phones at work. :goodvibes

Sarah we used it for keeping a track of Rachel on the Dream, otherwise you would never find each other :lmao:

You might use it more than you think, handy way to find each other or alert each other to an impromtu drinking session somewhere :rotfl2:

We didn't use it all the time, but it was certainly handy :thumbsup2

I didn't carry it around much, I left it in the room and just checked when I got back to see if I had any messages, I was paranoid about losing it :rotfl:

I know what you mean though, I am constantly on the phone at work and am glad also to get away from the phone ringing all the time. In saying that, they don’t ring, they only buzz as it would really annoy people in the shows or cinema if they were all ringing constantly

I guess we've got overkill in the US - I had my first flu shot at age 6 mos (back in 1961). I didn't have them every year since then - there have probably been entire decades when I didn't get one.

It's our 11th anniversary on 9 September. We're going to have a belated celebration onboard as our real anniversary will be spent on the airplane :)

I am sorry to be a party pooper, but I am going to wear trousers as well. :upsidedow

Spoil sport! ;)

Love it! I guess Claire will fit right at home with the others.

:lmao: GOSH! I hope everyone is going to wear SOMETHING besides the shirt. (ya gotta watch that Claire, though:rotfl2:)

I think i'm going to have some explaining to do to my DH! He is going to wonder what an earth i've been saying on here if you all comment on my lack of trousers/pants. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We have flash flood and tropical storm watches in effect for the next 48 hours. Although, a bigger worry seems to be for structures damaged in the earthquake which there hasn't been time yet to repair. For example, they did a second inspection of the Washington Monument yesterday and the damage was worse than they thought at first. Apparently, you can see daylight from the inside in places where there should be solid wall. The National Cathedral sustained millions of dollars worth of damage, although that is reported to be more "cosmetic" (all the lovely stonework) rather than structural. Crews are busy all over the area just trying to secure damaged structures enough to stay put during Irene.

We were watching an old rerun of "Little House on the Prairie" last night (or maybe the night before) and I just started laughing when it was the episode where a tornado hits Walnut Grove. Seemed to fit in perfectly with the weather week we're having around here! :rotfl2:

Sounds very scary! Stay safe.

I have made do with the hair dryers on my 4 night cruises but i'm bringing my own this time, I can't be doing with taking half an hour to dry my hair.

I got an over the door storage holder off ebay, try searching for a hanging shoe holder. :thumbsup2

You might use it more than you think, handy way to find each other or alert each other to an impromtu drinking session somewhere :rotfl2:

You'd better be using it to alert me of any of those impromptu drinking sessions you manage to stumble across!!! ;)

I can imagine lots of wave phone numbers being needed :)

They are quite easy to use.

For example, I am in room # 6511

The phone names and numbers are set up logically based on the cabin number plus a handset number. So if you are in cabin 6511, your phones are numbers 65111 and 65112. Calling between a Wave phone and an onboard land line phone is done by simply adding "41" before the number (for example, 416511 to call the cabin from the Wave phone, or 4165111 or 4165112 to call the Wave phone from the cabin)

It's not as difficult as it sounds :lmao:

As long as you know your friend's cabin number, you can just try contacting handset #1 and handset #2 to find them or call them :thumbsup2

count me in on THAT phone tree!
can imagine this turning into a wave phone flash mob! ("quick, mary's at the bar" - next thing you know the whole ship will be there within five minutes!!)

That's ridiculous, they didn't only make one mistake, it was a catalogue of errors, what a nightmare. pixiedust: they will be re-directed or re-shipped soon so you don't get too stressed Noel :)

How damn annoying and frustrating .... why are businesses so inefficient sometimes  I am sure that whoever is on the recieving end of the package will realise it is a mistake and return them.

ewwwwww ... sweaty armpits at dinner ... not a good look :scared1:

I know I am late offering support Noel... just wanted to say I've faith that you will get them sorted :)

I'm not surprised you are bananas!! I hope your mind settled so you could sleep. That is the kind of thing that niggles me at night and keeps me awake. I am sure it will be sorted though it might be a tight squeeze.

Noel.. Keep your head up.. this kind of thing happens all of the time... It really sucks, but they will arrive. And if they don't they don't and you have extra space in your luggage :dance3:

Noel it must be so upsetting for you about the lanyards and pins a problem you didn’t need, especially since you made it clear how you wanted it handled. I’m sure this problem will be sorted but am just so sorry you have this hassle. Sending you hugs :grouphug::grouphug:

margaret

GOOD JOB! (I wouldn't want to be them!)

Thank you to everyone for their kind words of support. I will keep everyone posted on the outcome!

Does everyone still want me to do a phone tree? If so, I will be sure to put both on the front page and the DIS Navigator. Problem is we have to wait until almost the last minute as some people still do not have stateroom numbers.
