*Sept 10th 2011 WB Transatlantic* - From Spain to Space Mountain - Part 5

hi for people waiting for the cabin numbers the disney cruise site is now showing the cruise is sold out and cannot be booked, i thought i read on here that they do this when they are sorting out the cabins, so you may hear soon hopefully, susie

sorry just seems to be no bookings when using the meo code, they may have finished the code

I just tried my code too and came up empty. However- if I don't enter a code at all, all stateroom categories are still open for booking. Even concierge!

I believe the coded stateroom categories are limited to 50.

...I was also wondering from my champagne experts... where should i stock up? I don't really feel like packing it in luggage from the US. at port in barcelona? Gibraltar? Madeira? every stop? :lmao: sparkling wine is my drink of choice... Sophisticated 22 year old taste.

If you like sparkling wine and you are in Spain, I would think picking up a nice Cava would do the trick. Reports seem to indicate that the wine shop in the terminal might be the place to start (and could be supplemented in Gibraltar).

Also, check your luggage allowance from London to BCN - it could be less than what you get going over the Pond.

Well we have finished our FE after tweaking many times.
I have added 2 photos, the first shows what it looked like when we brought it at the car boot sale for 50p!!, the second shows how we have turned it onto something ready for Disney! the third shows close ups of each section.

Hazel handmade the bows, which she was very proud of ! Then she sewed buttons all over, even some made into mickey head shapes.
Very nice Hazel & Annie:thumbsup2

Good luck Michelle, I hope you have fun doing your FE, can't wait to see your finished article :wizard:

I'm doing well for my packing training for the WBTA. Cases are packed and I only have 20 kg in my hold luggage and my hand luggage is virtually empty. My case has toiletries and sun tan lotion in it weighing a few kg, but I'll be buying those next trip in Morrisons on the WBTA, so I am really pleased

Only 10 pairs of shoes this time :rotfl2::rotfl2: which includes dress shoes for the cruise and various crocs, flip flop and fit flop shoes for the parks :thumbsup2
Thanks Mary :)

I am hoping my baggage is going to weigh about the same as yours :goodvibes

The last Med cruise (August 27 - before the "mystery cruise" of Sep 3) received their stateroom assignments about July 13. I thought I'd give you a heads up about something that throws people for a loop.

The stateroom CATEGORY on your reservation will remain listed as what you purchased. When you see a stateroom NUMBER listed, you may need to look at a deck plan to determine what category you are assigned.

Good point, this confused the heck out of us on our first cruise!

I have to say no complaints about the weather here. About 80 degrees and a very light breeze.
I'm so jealous! We're having Lorelei's bday party on Saturday and it's suppose to be in the 90's and humid as heck. I'm just hoping we don't have to move it in doors. My house is not layed out well for that many people to be in it.

I have added 2 photos, the first shows what it looked like when we brought it at the car boot sale for 50p!!, the second shows how we have turned it onto something ready for Disney! the third shows close ups of each section.
Great job! It turned out very well. :goodvibes

That makes me feel so unprepared. I haven't even made my packing list yet :scared1:

Excellent job!! That's so cute!

I have to ask, though, how did she do the "header" with the DCL Mickey and your names? Is it embroidered? I really want a sewing machine that embroiders - been lusting after one for ages. Then I think I'd go into the FE making business, b/c I could do such cute details with it.

Well Pat, you haven't been on the Dream yet right? Hmmmm, this is a toughie. If it were me, I would look on the dcl site and see what other Dream cruises look good - remember you can book one onboard in Sept - and then if another one caught my eye, I would cancel and do wdw for a full week. It would be much more relaxing, plus w/ the resort & room you have, it could be much more romantic :lovestruc for your anniversary since that is what you'll be celebrating on the trip.

Also, how does your hubby feel? That would also steer my decision.

I'm thinking when the Fantasy starts sailing, interest in the Dream may drop off a bit and we may be able to get a good deal (maybe even a military discount) later. Plus, we're thinking about Alaska some time next year.

Dennis loves the WL. It's his favorite resort. I'm torn between it and BC (mostly b/c of Stormalong Bay). If we did the cruise then WDW, we'd probably stay at the BC for access to the F&WF. That's what we've done for the past two years. I checked Club level there, and a standard room is more than the Honeymoon room at WL.

Those 3 days (actually 2.5) feel so rushed. Last year, I didn't even get to SAB and b/c we were there on the weekend, the F&WF was pretty packed. Dennis is really liking the idea of a relaxed week at WDW where we can take our time and maybe see some of the things we by-pass due to time constraints. He even mentioned Vicky & Bert's when I said something about a nice dinner for our anniversary! :thumbsup2

Pat, neither choice is a bad one, but I'd probably follow my gut and do whichever one I think I would regret less (as opposed to like more, because they're both great). If you think the WDW option is an incredible deal, never to be matched, then do that; if you have a phenomenal price on the Dream, then, there you go. I'm betting you'll barely have time to miss Remy, Palo, or the cabana. Either way, most of us will still be at home, toiling away for those rude bosses who don't understand our need to spend the day on the Disboards.....so just have a blast and enjoy! :cool1:

Yeah, that's the one good thing about my two pitiful part-time jobs - I can pretty much take time off whenever I want to (with reasonable notice, of course).

I hope you do manage to see her. She is really looking forward to someone from the DIS coming up and saying hi to her!

And very well done on the packing! Is that including all your formal wear etc. Thats really impressive :thumbsup2

Anyway, hope you have an absolutely fantastic holiday and a magical cruise .... and if you do see my little girl give her a great big hug from me :hug:

It's a 5 night cruise, so I only have one long dress in there :thumbsup2 Stevie came in on weight with his kilt etc in too. I spoke to DCL at length on this one, "dress up" night on the dream is optional formal or semi-formal, so we had a pow-wow and decided that all the boys are taking their kilts. I can't wait to get a pic of the 5 of them all dressed up (2 adults 3 kids). The teenagers loved all the attention they got from the girls in the Stack last time with their kilts on, so can't wait to show off in Vibe this time :rotfl2::rotfl2: The teenage area on the Dream looks amazing, I don't think we are going to see the kids at all..... how will we cope :cloud9:

I'm going to check the store everytime I am in DHS to make sure I manage to see Taryn and definitely give her lots of hugs from you :hug::hug:

Yay for you! I have started thinking about how to get my husband to agree to stay at wdw one more night before the cruise.....of course that's one more night away from my babydog, so its a tough choice.

That's a tough one - WDW or fur babies :confused3 :lmao:

Mary, aren't you taking your iPad with you to WDW? Has it changed your life like Warren predicted? I'm totally addicted to mine! :lmao:

I'm taking the ipad Lorraine, but I don't have a mobile internet package organised for using in the USA. I'm just going to use Stevie's laptop in the room, with the free internet package at the Beach Club Villas :thumbsup2 I do love my ipad :lovestruc I've downloaded HP Part 1 to do a catch up before I go to see HP Part 2 when I get back :)

Also, check your luggage allowance from London to BCN - it could be less than what you get going over the Pond.

Josh is on the same British Airways flight as me to BCN, so his luggage allowance is:-

Small handbag or rucksack
Carry on (no weight limit) but with the usual size restriction
1 Hold bag at 23 kg

Pat, we  WL too. That was our first DVC home resort and we bought sight unseen. The first time we went there I burst into tears at how beautiful it was and fell in love with it instantly. We always stay there when we go to WDW at Christmas. I think it sounds like the 2 of you are leaning towards going to WDW for your anniversary :)

I am just laughing at your Vicky & Bert's comment, that is hilarious, I have never heard of anyone calling it that before :lmao: We call her Queen Vic for short :rotfl2:

Great job on the FE Hazel & Annemarie. :thumbsup2

That's exactly what I'll be doing, after a long day in the parks, I love a cuppa and I'll be fighting off DD for a go on the laptop to check what you guys are all up to on here and who has got a fantastic allocation or upgrade :thumbsup2

Karen I got the cream one last year, it is lovely, wouldn't mind another one in a different colour :thumbsup2 It is so subtle, you can wear it without anyone realising it is Mickey Mouse :lmao: Of course, the experienced hidden mickey spotters would notice in a second, but your average person wouldn't :lmao:

I'm doing well for my packing training for the WBTA. Cases are packed and I only have 20 kg in my hold luggage and my hand luggage is virtually empty. You'd better get the laptop off Rachel, I need my updates! :)

That scarf is lovely, I may just have to get one of those - in pink of course.

Good job on the packing. I am dreading packing, I have way too much stuff to pack already.

Wow well done! Only 10 pairs, I am going to try to stick to 10 pairs for the WBTA....wish me luck! :rolleyes1

Apparently this one is modelled on the style of clothing Lillian Disney would have worn. She does have another costume for hubcarts which is long shorts and shirt with a white cap.

It is really cute, have you got pics of her in the other costumes?

I haven't started my FE or the presents yet... I'm thinking i might to Jo Anns fabrics and look for any bargains (or bah-gins as we say in new england). I'm getting really excited. I booked my transportation with disney last night to and from both airports for 65usd total. i was very happy with that price!
I was also wondering from my champagne experts... where should i stock up? I don't really feel like packing it in luggage from the US. at port in barcelona? Gibraltar? Madeira? every stop? :lmao: sparkling wine is my drink of choice... Sophisticated 22 year old taste.

I am planning on bringing quite a bit on in Barcelona, there is a shop at the port once you have checked in. I will also be stocking up as much as I can in Morrisons (Gibraltar).

Nothing wrong with Sparkling wine.....a nice bottle of Cava or my favourite Rosa Regale. :thumbsup2

We love WL too, it is our favourite resort. I was amazed when we first walked into that lobby, it was Christmas time too - so even more special. :lovestruc

Pat - I call it Vicky & Bert's too. :lmao: Have you been before?

You mean like a Secret Mickey thing?

Thanks for your input Claire, I think I will give it a shot, after all what do I have to lose, the bag is cute whatever it ends up getting used for. I think I will follow your idea of the gift bag as an overflow.

Yes it is, we have a few that are arranged per year for people in the UK on the UK section. We do Easter, Summer, Halloween & Christmas. :thumbsup2

No probs, glad I could help. :) Can you buy the bag over there? Or is it only available in the UK?

.

We weren't able to get the name tags and logo at the top embroidered so we used a dark t shirt transfer paper. That way we found we could design what we wanted and then print it out!

That's what we've done for the past two years. I checked Club level there, and a standard room is more than the Honeymoon room at WL.

Yeah, that's the one good thing about my two pitiful part-time jobs - I can pretty much take time off whenever I want to (with reasonable notice, of course).

We're staying at Bay Lake Towers this trip, but after the November cruise, we'll be at WL - it will be all done up for Christmas by then. It's my spouse's favorite too.

We weren't able to get the name tags and logo at the top embroidered so we used a dark t shirt transfer paper. That way we found we could design what we wanted and then print it out!

Brilliant solution!

Happy Day, All!

Good Morning All! I am official now, and did my on board check in last night! So glad to be rooming with Evelyn! (fly4free2). I love meeting new folks! I'm still on the fence about flights. I would love to go up to Finland first perhaps. I have family there. Found some really inexpensive airfare from Helsinki to Barcelona on Air Baltic ($126 one way) with a stopover in Latvia. Does anyone know anything about that airlines? I once flew Aeroflot (USSR) in 1986 between Moscow and Simvatapol and it looked like lawn chairs for seats! :rotfl: No seriously, those seats could easily be removed, maybe to make them military aircraft?:confused3

Also, is anyone doing any private touring in Gibraltar other than the monkeys, caves, and seige tunnels? They are definitely not to be missed but I have already visited them twice. Great shopping in Gibraltar too and tax free! :thumbsup2 I think I'm going to invest in a better pair of binoculars. You get to see so much ship action thru the straits. I sailed from Tenerife to Morocco on my big 3-0 and saw tons of gray ships during the start up of Desert Shield. My dad was a merchant marine and sailed these waters from the US to the Med for over 50 years and crossing the Atlantic on a ship like he did so many times has a very special meaning for me as this will be my first time!

A hearty felt "get well soon" to anyone under the weather, recovering from surgery, undergoing testing. This cruise sounds like the ultimate R&R (relax and recover).:grouphug:

Pat, we  WL too. That was our first DVC home resort and we bought sight unseen. The first time we went there I burst into tears at how beautiful it was and fell in love with it instantly. I am just laughing at your Vicky & Bert's comment, that is hilarious, I have never heard of anyone calling it that before :lmao: We call her Queen Vic for short :rotfl2:

Yeah, pretty irreverent, I know. :rotfl:

WL is gorgeous, and the concept suits both of us - camping vibe, with room service. :thumbsup2

Sounds like you've made your decision. :goodvibes I am sure it will be wonderful wherever you decide as you will be together and celebrating your anniversary. :lovestruc

Yeah, Dennis doesn't weigh those decisions much. He just says, "Oh, let's do that!" I'm the one who has to make pro/con lists.

It just sounds like the Dream is going to be very full. I'm also not getting much of a "community" feeling from the DIS'ers on that one. If they were like this group, we'd definitely keep the cruise. Not that that's a deal-breaker, or anything. We'll absolutely book something else on this one, though,

We love WL too, it is our favourite resort. I was amazed when we first walked into that lobby, it was Christmas time too - so even more special. :lovestruc

Pat - I call it Vicky & Bert's too. :lmao: Have you been before?

See, great minds...! We've never been to V&B's, but it's definitely on the "bucket list." It's always been out of the budget, though. I doubt we'll get there this time, either, but we might do Cali Grill - haven't been there in a long time.

We weren't able to get the name tags and logo at the top embroidered so we used a dark t shirt transfer paper. That way we found we could design what we wanted and then print it out!

Very clever! I hadn't thought of that. (Hmm... might have to steal that idea and revamp my FE - because I just don't have enough to do before this trip!)

Okay, off to work. TGIF!!

We are all hoping some shops are actually open on the day we are there so we can do some lovely tax free shopping!! We do know now that Morrisons is staying open(just for us of course;)), but originally reports were that other shops will be closed for the public holiday.

Perhaps there will be some celebratory events to go and see though.

What holiday will they be celebrating? I need to do some research! What, exactly is Morrisons? I have heard it mentioned a few times now.

It is their National Day on the Saturday so they take the Monday off work as a holiday.

Morrisons is a big supermarket chain over here and there happens to be one fairly close to the dock. It has a good alcohol section, hence all the excitement on the thread and I think almost a competition for the largest bag that will be taken to bring supplies back!! :lmao::lmao::lmao: Others, like me, are also picking up toiletries there to save precious baggage weight for things like shoes!!!;)

People checked, double checked, complained etc about whether Morrisons was going to be open when we are there. It was No, yes, no, and finally YES!!

If you visit the Boqueria market on Las Ramblas, there is a wine store on the perimeter of the market - we bought very yummy yet inexpensive red wine there on the last trip (we had no idea what we were buying really, but it worked out fine!)

Thanks for the tip Lynne. If you received the staterooms on July 13th for an August 27th cruise, that would be 45 days in advance. We are 50 days out today. Just a few more days then hopefully!

:thumbsup2

Well, based on how you're feeling about the Dream cruise and also being rushed at 3 days, and how Dennis feels....I would cancel the Dream cruise and do the week.
