Isn't that what also happened to the personalized menus at the Coral Reef? People overwhelmed the person in charge with their requests. If I recall, people on these boards were handing out the manager's direct phone number.

What was supposed to be an experience for special occasions got out of hand. It's really too bad.

Yes. Take a look at the wedding/honeymoon board. Brides go on and on about all the attention and free "pixie dust" they get and it becomes expected and people who don't get it end up disappointed. This is why they cant give everone wearing a button a free dessert. EVERYONE is wearing a button!

Thank you so much for sharing. I am sorry people have been so grumpy with you the morning! I loved your idea and I bet the people at headquarters who recieved the postcards really looked forward to them each day!

I bet they looked forward to them too but not necessarily in the way the OP probably thinks they did. ;)

I personally do not understand the need for 'competitive' vacationing and the need to try to make your vacation super-extra-specialer than everyone else and then publically bragging about anything you may get in return. That is how so many things at Disney have been ruined as other have mentioned.

I don't think OP is bragging.

The most obvious form of bragging on these boards is the "laundry-list-of-every-disney-related-vacation-we've-ever-taken-since-birth" signature.

:confused3

Bragging? No
Trying to make others feel bad? No
Do I expect anything free? Absolutely not; that was not the purpose

Overly enthusiastic WDW and DCL fan who looks forward to vacations? Yes
Wanting to give credit to DCL for spreading a little extra magic during the difficult time of my miscarriage? Yes
Wish I never posted this? Yes; Could someone please send me a private message and let me know how to do that?

"Competitive Vacationing." You need to trademark that and get TLC to do show about it. It really is something that is starting to plague our society, and a lot of our fellow Disney freaks are probably the worst offenders!

Too many people were asking them to hold up signs at dinner they had to stop it altogether. The could not accommodate everyone or people would not see theres and get upset.

There were apparently also increased demands on the restaurant manager who handled the divers - people got her direct phone line (it was getting posted on the boards and had to be removed) and filled it up with messages about the free service. When she didn't call back immediately they left more messages. People were late for their reservation, missed their diver and demanded that the diver be put back in the tank with their sign. Etc etc etc.

This isn't the same, really, DCL has a mailroom and it's their job to handle mail to the company. The postcard thing doesn't sound like something others would want to do. I've never even heard of heralding a trip by sending hundreds of postcards to DCL's offices, but the offices didn't seem to mind. (They WILL mind if they suddenly get inundated with bazillions of cards though - even if they'd never say so)

I think sending the postcards to a children's hospital to be distributed among the sick children would have been even better.

I did have the same thought about hundreds of people sending postcards every day. lol.

I am now totally addicted to your blog! I need to find a plush minnie, DS has a mickey and I LOVE the variation on the elf on the shelf day. We only have 109 days to our cruise, so I'd like to start the 100 day countdown for that! I'm sure Mickey and Minnie can find lots of things to get into at our house :) I'm definitely gonna be hunting for 1 hour gifts for our 3 day car ride too! (we might only be able to do that for 1 day. lol)

Well done to Disney for finding a tactful way to say "stop sending us postcards"

OP: I thought your idea was creative, and your motivation, heartfelt. I am feeling badly for the negativity you have received here; shocked actually, esp from the mod. Maybe mod has experienced too many 'strange' stories and their perspective is jaded, or perhaps they see something I as a newbie do not. No matter what, keep that special place in your heart alive for you and your family!

Cute blog site. I hope your daughter enjoys her birthday vacation.

My condolences on the loss of your baby. :(

While I wasn't sure I followed the reasoning for sending the postcards originally, I thought the negative comments were unnecessary. Instead of sending postcards, I think we might try making a scrapbook with our 365 reasons...sounds like a really fun idea.
A side note: Our family made a photo book from our Fantasy cruise with a green army man in all of the fun places onboard. My kids LOVED it! I'm thinking that we need to find a new "toy" to bring on our next trip. It's a fun way to get the kids to take photos without them having to pose at every single place. :)

To the other negative comments I've received about the postcards we sent, I think I'm being mostly misunderstood. I like to do over-the-top things, but I've never heard of a competitive vacationer. How in the world do you compete with someone on a family vacation? Each family makes their own memories and thanks to Pinterest and other Disney blogs I've seen, I have gotten ideas to use for my daughter. I never thought of others as "bragging" when they posted what they did with their family to prepare for their upcoming WDW or DCL vacation. I'm also not trying to promote my blog. I have no advertisements and don't earn money for it, so why would I? I love all things Disney and love to share that with others-what is wrong with that? So what if others want to send postcards? If it adds to your excitement, go for it. I didn't expect anything in return for it except to find a way to count down to our next DCL vacation. I figured if DCL guest communications office posted the picture postcard they received every day on a bulletin board, then they liked it. They wouldn't have bothered calling us and congratulating us on the pregnancy if they didn't care. Unlike some of you (consider yourself fortunate), we can't afford to take a Disney cruise every year or more than once a year. When it's a very special trip, I like to make the most out of it and build up to the actual day.

I am also a mom (I have two young boys) and your blog had some awesome idea. You must have been a very talented and creative 2nd grade teacher! I can't wait to try some of your ideas!

I agree....

On this board there are tons and tons of stories about people sharing their "Disney Magical Moments" or "Pixie dust" but for some reason people are turning this into some sort of conspiracy.

Please don't be discouraged, there a many of us who enjoyed your post...and the ideas from your blog.

I work in a mailroom. Strange stories, yes.

One person doing this will not be a problem for DCL. Numerous people doing it? Yes, a problem. Sorry you saw that as negativity.

I thought it was cute, and your dd seems so happy in your posts about the countdowns, activities, etc.! You have some very creative ideas! I like the ping pong ball countdown.

Don't let the negativity get to you. For a forum about Disney vacations, people sure like to poo-poo other people's creative ideas and excitement around here. Seems like if they don't like it, they just don't have to do it! Don't make her feel bad for doing it! It's not like you set out to get anything in return.... And let's face it... You got 2 plush dolls and some pictures... No reason for anyone to be all up in arms about you sending postcards.

And? Do some of you honestly think there will be legions of people lining up to spend a year making and mailing 365 post cards to DCL?

I think most Disney "Fanatics" at this point have found their own way of expression.

Just wanted to say I found your post and blog to be very nice. As someone who has been trying to have a child (with no luck) I found myself smiling at the thought I could also share these types of experiences with a child someday. I get super excited about my vacations, I find myself doing things frequently to continue the daily excitement (pre-trip reports, watching related movies, etc.). If I had a child I imagine I would do something similar with them and I think it's awesome your little girl was so excited. It's so much fun when there is someone there to share the excitement with you.

As far as postcards, if I worked for Disney I feel like I would appreciate them and enjoy them. I loved the one about Jafar, it was so cute. I feel like a lot of Disney employees join Disney because they enjoy the magic and "fairy dust". I think it probably helps to remind them of it and if the child is having fun and loving it, even more the reason. I personally think if I was sent a postcard every day, I would enjoy it. You never get snail mail anymore. Obviously they did enjoy it if they were going to hang them all up in the office.
