Senate passes stimulus package...

Anyone who doesn't believe that this is a serious crisis has got their head buried in the sand.

I don't think many believe there isn't a crisis. The difference is what to do about it. Piling crap on crap doesn't help...it hurts.

I liked where Obamasavior stated that "tax cuts don't work"...obviously he didn't read up the Reagan years:confused3

Shame the money spent on the military during WW2 was actually being spent in the US.

If they had opened manufacturing facilities in the US to supply Mission Iraqi Domination, the economy would be doing pretty good. Instead they just outsourced.

They missed that part of the equation :teacher:

We have already spent trillions in bailouts when you consider Fannie, Freddie, Investment Banks, Commercial Banks, AIG, Big 3, etc.

I think that may have been necessary. I can't imagine what would have happened if all those banks had failed along with AIG and the auto companies. Not that it makes any difference now, what's done is done, but this is different.

Trying to avoid the pain necessary to correct this mess is going to make it worse. I think Obama and his crew think what they're doing is right, and by God I HOPE they're right, I just don't think they are. Again though, no one is listening to me.

If I'm lucky, my retirement will work out OK, but as it is I will be traveling a lot less than I had planned.

Well, I have the perfect solution for everyone, give up all Government run services, including, but not limited to the following:

-Public schools
-Police departments
-Postal service
-Fire departments
-Roads
-Social Security
-Medicare
-Homeland Security
-The CIA
-The FBI
-The NSA
-The Alaskan Pipeline
-National Parks
-National Historic Sites
-U.S. Air Traffic Control

If you do all this you will cut your spending and therefore be able to pay down the deficit and pay your military. Cut the Government out entirely. Just cut it out, drive over dirt roads, put out the fire in your own house and don't rely on the FDIC to insure your deposits, in other words, stuff it in your mattress. Oh, and don't expect the government to educate your kids.

Thanks. But I'm real curious as to why it's called "partisan politics" when the Republicans vote along party lines but it's not when the Democrats do it (such as with this vote)?

Politics, from the latin words Poli, meaning 'many' and tics, meaning 'blood sucking parasites'.

Some of those departments are clearly Constitutional, but most are not. The individual states are meant to run these programs if they have the support locally and the money locally. One state is not meant to subsidize another for these things.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not 1 of these taxes existed 100 yrs ago, & our nation was the
most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt & had the largest middle class in the world, & Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the world happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

If you can build it overseas for $2.00 an hour vs 15-25 dollars an hour (I have no idea what the actual wage here is so excuse the figures I use) were would you build it?

If we could have done it in WW2 we would have done the same. The fact is that during that time we had no choice. We were bombing the competition. Same with post war for a number of years, we had no competition.

Outsourcing will be with us until costs around the world equalize!!!

I've been good and sore for the past 10 years!! ;)

Wait until chapter two of this mess hits.....INFLATION. You think you're sore now. wait!!!

I went thru this in the 70's and it isn't pretty. One thing that doesn't keep pace with inflation of that type is that in no way does wages keep up.

I definitely found out one thing with that experience. There is no such thing as a free lunch. You pay for them all.

The other lesson was from my father....live within your means.

Amazing list of taxes there, considering we are a nation founded out of a tax revolt.

Me too! Thank God my parents grew up poor, learned the value of money and an education and really drilled that into our heads. I have an almost pathological drive to live WAYYY beneath my means...you know..."just in case" ;)

Well...I certainly find them revolting.
