Did I just step through a time machine or is Jimmy Carter president again?

Anyone who thinks this was a good idea, clearly has forgotten the Jimmy Carter years...

Can anyone say "inflation?"

All I can say is... thank you, Mr. Obama, for proving me right :)

Many weren't born during the Carter area and are more interested in Intendo.

So disappointing, but not surprising, of course. I definitely want a roll call on this. And I really want the Republicans to stand strong and vote against this. Let Obama and the Dems own it.

In a way I wasn't surprised with the three repubilcan votes. Maine and pa. need to get those clowns out. One you won't for six years as she just got re-elected.

Thanks. But I'm real curious as to why it's called "partisan politics" when the Republicans vote along party lines but it's not when the Democrats do it (such as with this vote)?

Politics are the gateway to hell. Does it really matter what phrase you use to describe politicians?

I beleive history shows fiscal stimulus DOES work. It ended the Great Depression.

Did you sleep thru history class???

All the experts agree WORLD WAR TWO ended the depression, and there are 400,000 plus dead americans to prove it !!!!!!!

Shame the money spent on the military during WW2 was actually being spent in the US.

If they had opened manufacturing facilities in the US to supply Mission Iraqi Domination, the economy would be doing pretty good. Instead they just outsourced.

Looks like there were only 3 Republican votes in favour, so I'd say both parties voted party lines on this one, not just the Democrats. Wouldn't you?

That's what I was thinking. So what that means is that we need something to put the work force back into place, something urgent. Aside from WWIII, what would do that? There's got to be an answer besides another World War, doesn't there? :confused3

Just off the top of my head, what if every single able bodied American that was not working at this time had to work for the government; building roads, building bridges, state parks - plus management, tech, etc for these jobs. Would that even come close?? I have to add: I don't mean stay at home moms or caregivers, etc. I don't EVEN want to start that nightmare of posts...

That was tried in the depression with the "Civil Conservation Corp." (CCC) and WPA. A lot of what you see in tne national parks were CCC works.

while it's supposed ot help us, all I feel is dread. :sad2: AND the need to cut back even more ( as if that's possible) to set anything and EVERYTHING aside for my kids. Guess I am not reacting to this the way the Government assumes I will or should.

We just decided not to go on our trip this year and try to save even more money. This deal will do nothing for the economy and will just give us a bigger debt that we will have to pay.

:thumbsup2 me too. no extra spending for me. gotta sock it all alway since my kids and their kids will be paying for this :sad2:

We have already spent trillions in bailouts when you consider Fannie, Freddie, Investment Banks, Commercial Banks, AIG, Big 3, etc.

I think that may have been necessary. I can't imagine what would have happened if all those banks had failed along with AIG and the auto companies. Not that it makes any difference now, what's done is done, but this is different.

Trying to avoid the pain necessary to correct this mess is going to make it worse. I think Obama and his crew think what they're doing is right, and by God I HOPE they're right, I just don't think they are. Again though, no one is listening to me.

If I'm lucky, my retirement will work out OK, but as it is I will be traveling a lot less than I had planned.

Anyone who doesn't believe that this is a serious crisis has got their head buried in the sand.

This would all be so simple if Washington would just consult the Community Board before making decisions!

"Trillions"??? Also, small diff... At least with those bailouts the government exchanged the cash for equity in the companies that will be cashed in at some point in the future that should recoup a significant part of the cost of the programs.

That is true. I keepforgetting the equity stakes ......
