I am going around decluttering the house in preparation for a yard sale later in July. This will be my first yard sale (it's actually a multi-family yard sale) and I'm getting excited!

One question I have is whether it is appropriate to sell used lotions, shampoos, body wash, etc. Now before you say "Eww gross, I'd never buy that!" I'm not asking whether *you* personally would buy them, but rather do you think *someone* might buy them.

I have a ton of lotions and stuff, mostly that have been given as gifts. I LOVE the idea of using lotion and some of the smells are sooo good, but I guess what it comes down to is that I'm not a lotion girl. I just don't think about using it; I have to make a special effort to use them. So, I have a lot that have been used a bit but still have a good amount left in them. Same goes for shampoo stuff; I just have more than what I really need/want.

It seems a shame to just toss them, but at the same time I don't know whether most people would be turned off by the idea of buying used toiletries like that. I have been reading on different websites on yard sale tips to put out stuff even if you don't think anyone would want it; they say you'd be surprised at what sells. Now, they were talking about gawdy broken salt & pepper shakers and whatnot; I don't know if that applies to toiletries too.

Anyone know if this is an acceptable thing to sell? And if so, how much should they be priced at? :confused3

:thumbsup2 people will buy anything!! (if the price is right)
Serioulsy, they will. I have sold stuff that DH said to toss, if you get a quarter for it, that's a quarter more than you had, especially if you aren't going to use it.

I've seen people do it. You'd be amazed what people would buy for a dime or a quarter!

Yep...that's some of the best selling stuff. I've even sold lots of spices and seasoning packets that were in my cupboard that I never used. Dimes, nickels and quarters add up fast!

that is up there with underwear and unlabeled VCR tapes

I sold a half used tube of toothpaste at a yard sale. I was surprised how fast it went.

I am sure someone would buy them. I would probably check to see if a women's shelter would accept them first. I hate the hassle of selling my crap so I try to give it away and write it off.

:lmao:

But seriously, I'm sure that you could sell it. I would feel weird doing it, but hey, go for it. I suppose there's nothing wrong with it!

There is nothing wrong with it! Some people might not buy it, just like some people don't buy used clothes:rolleyes: but lots will! I have been going to and having yard sales for 20 years. Trust me when I say I KNOW people want it and will snatch it up! Go for it, you'd be throwing money and something people would use away. That would be a total waste. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!!!:)
I would just make sure the bottles were clean and price them whatever you feel is good for you. .25-$1.00 or so, or more depending on what you have. If you have really expensive lotion, with just a little gone, you could get a couple of bucks! Good Luck!:wizard:

DH aunt always puts that stuff in her yard sales, and it goes quickly!

Another thought, and you'd have to check if you don't have a relative there, but I take all of my partially used stuff like that to the nursing home where my grandma lives. They use it for some of the residents, and some of those people don't have family to bring or buy them anything like that.

I know some people who go to yard sales specifically looking for stuff like that, especially if it's something like Bath & Body Works and is in a discontinued scent. If it's in good condition (hasn't gone all wonky on you, separated or anything like that), I say go for it. It gets it out of the house and might get you a couple of bucks. Who knows? :)

I was really surprised that people bought socks, so put the stuff out and see what happens!

Yes they will. At my yard sale I put out a powder with a powder puff that touched my body you know the round container kind with the PUFF that you pat on after your shower for 10cents just to see if someone would buy it.
A man bought it after looking it over. I do think people will buy anything if the price is right!

After looking it over or you over? Sorry, couldn't resist! :lmao:

Go for it, OP. If they don't sell, no harm done. I personally wouldn't buy used toiletries, but many people do.

If you are just trying to declutter your house I would give it women shelter they can always use it, but if you want to sell it at your house I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would buy it

People buy ANYTHING! We just had our yard sale - every year we do this. I made about $400 my sister made almost $900.

We sometimes have a box marked with .25 & .10 stuff. It is amazing how quick that money adds up.

One year I told my DH to go thru all his clothes and put in a bag what he didn't want. At the yard sale I just dumped the bag and noticed he put old socks in there, before I had a chance to get them out someone purchased them. They said they would make good rags!

My thinking after the lst. yard sale was put it out -
